Updating velocity models for complex pre-salt targets in Santos basin 桑托斯盆地复杂盐下目标速度模型更新

Pre-salt oil discoveries in the Santos basin have made it one of the most prospective petroleum provinces in the world. The prospects that these plays provide are not without challenge. Complex geological features and deep targets complicate the exploration and evaluation process. Limited illumination of available narrow-azimuth (NAZ) seismic data further add to the challenge. Full waveform inversion (FWI) is a natural choice to update complex overburdens. The recently proposed formulation by Zhang et al. (2018) provides a reliable approach for the complex geologies of the Santos basin. For deeper updates, waveequation migration velocity analysis (WEMVA) relies on reflections through the wave-equation, making it a potential candidate for salt and pre-salt model updates. While still susceptible to the limitations imposed by NAZ data, Donno et al. (2019) introduced a regularization to reduce some of these adverse effects. Iterating these two flavors of waveequation based inversions, we demonstrate that reasonable velocity updates can be achieved in some of the complex areas of the Santos basin using NAZ data. Salt delineation and scenario testing are still required in some places to improve unresolved areas. Results are promising with a significant uplift in the pre-salt layer.

Improving pre-salt targets using wave-equation velocity analysis 利用波动方程速度分析改进盐下目标

Despite continuous improvements in model-building technologies, imaging below salt remains challenging. Reflection full-waveform inversion (RFWI) is effective at providing low-wavenumber velocity updates beyond the penetration depth of diving waves, however it is still susceptible to amplitude mismatch between input and modeled data. It also suffers from limitations imposed by narrow-azimuth (NAZ) seismic acquisition. To reduce the adverse impact of amplitude differences between input and modeled data, we present here a stack-power waveequation migration velocity analysis (WEMVA) method. Differently than RFWI, this method uses an objective function defined in the image domain. Therefore, it depends more on the kinematic part of the propagated wavefields, resulting in a more reliable inversion scheme. We also introduce a regularization term that reduces the footprints created in the velocity updates by NAZ seismic data. We demonstrate the effectiveness of this method by using synthetic and field data with NAZ acquisition geometries. Finally, we discuss some of its limitations, and suggest ideas for further improvements.

Airborne gamma-ray spectrometry signatures of Ediacaran granitic rocks in the Transversal Zone of Borborema Province - NE-Brazil 巴西东北部borborrema省横断带埃迪卡拉纪花岗质岩石的航空伽玛能谱特征

High-resolution gamma ray spectrometry was exploited to identify and classify the main granitic intrusions present in Transversal Zone domain, Northeastern Brazil due to the fact that this rock type tend to have relatively high levels of gamma radiation from the decay of potassium, uranium and thorium, elements present in its mineral composition. The granitic suites were grouped according to the data compilation present in literature and the results revealed interesting patterns for the epidote bearing calc-alkalic, high-K calc-alkalic and ultrapotassic peralkalic series. Also, high-K metaluminous and post-orogenic/A-type suites have a distinct gamma-ray signature, even though there are few mapped occurrences in study area. On the other hand, the results for shoshonitic, high-K calc-alkalic and Trondhjemitic-affinity suites are ambiguous, since they do not present gamma-ray signatures that allow their clear differentiation between them.
