Studies on the effectiveness of clinical decision support systems on impacting clinical outcomes have shown varying results. A gap exists in understanding the factors that play a role in the relationship between the decision support systems, providers, and clinical outcomes. This study explores the role of adjustment level, or the difference between a clinician's initial evaluation of a treatment path for a patient, and the treatment path presented by a decision support system. The study suggests that where the adjustment level is high, decision support systems are not as effective in affecting outcomes than when adjustment levels are low.

Specification of a social network-based PHR 基于社交网络的PHR规范
Pub Date : 1900-01-01 DOI: 10.1504/IJEH.2018.10022989

Institute of Medicine (IoM) has introduced the patient-centred care as one of the six aims to improve healthcare quality. Personal health record (PHR) systems play a key role for employing patient-centred care. Also, there is increasing tendency to use Web 2.0 services in healthcare. Using a descriptive study, this paper specifies a social network-based PHR named health social network-personal health record (HSN-PHR). First a hybrid PHR model is proposed which provides an integrated viewpoint of individual's health information. It contains reliable information both for patients and healthcare providers although it is fully controlled by its owners. The requirements of developing a hybrid PHR model in a health social network are elicited and specified in IEEE Std 830-1998 standard format. The requirements are elicited using observation, introspection and questionnaire. Development of such social networking-based PHR system can improve personal and public health level in the society.

Collecting data related to COVID-19 disease can significantly impact the management of this pandemic. One of the tools that can be helpful in controlling this disease is developing registry. This study aimed to determine the technical and data requirements of the registry for COVID-19. Databases with keywords related to 'COVID-19' and 'registry' were searched. The existing registries in COVID-19 in Iran and other countries were examined. To finalise the data elements, focus group sessions were held with experts. Thirteen main data classes were identified: Demographic information, critical dates, type of sample, patient condition, signs and symptoms, history of smoking and consuming narcotics, history of drugs consumption, imaging finding, differential diagnoses of a severe respiratory disease syndrome, underlying conditions, complications of the disease, respiratory support and discharge outcomes. Determining data requirements is the first step in developing a registry that can create a standard infrastructure for consistent data collection. © 2022 Inderscience Enterprises Ltd.. The COVID-19 pandemic has placed an enormous burden on healthcare systems. The pandemic revealed insufficient digitalisation of Czech healthcare, particularly in terms of interconnectedness of healthcare systems. Before the pandemic, the digitalisation of healthcare was not a priority;thus the E-health Act is still absent. Paperless healthcare was only represented by e-prescription (eRecept) and electronic sick note (e-Neschopenka), with tracking application e-Rouska and electronic medical request for COVID testing (eZadanka) introduced in 2020. The pandemic is expected to accelerate the digitalisation of Czech healthcare supported by funds from the National Recovery Plan. Nonetheless, several projects have been postponed with healthcare priorities being identified elsewhere. Based on a novel approach we analysed emerging medical-related technologies (keywords) in research output (publications, projects, contractual research, patents) among Czech research institutions and firms. In the last decade (2009–2018), the most frequent new technologies (keywords) were those related to genetics (genomic and genetic sequencing), nanomaterials (nanoparticle and nanomedicine), e-health (data processing), and sensors necessary for IoMT. In terms of future business opportunities big data, AI/machine learning and IoMT/wearables are considered to be the three principal transformative digital technologies.
