Scattering of plane monochromatic waves on quasiperiodic layered structures is considered. Iterative numeric solutions for complex amplitudes of reflected and transmitted waves are found by modified method of transmission matrices. Influence of Kerr nonlinearity of permittivity of some layers on resonance properties is investigated. Hysteresis behavior is observed for case of combination of high quality factor and nonlinearity.

An analysis of known experimental results on the formation of periodic structures under ultrashort laser pulses interaction with condensed matter has been made. The examples of the structures with periods less than he diffraction limit in condensed matter have been interpreted based on the nonlinear mathematical model of unimodal logistical map which describes mutipled-one-half period changes with control parameter.

The properties of new optical waveguides with nanosize cross-section made of noble metals and glasses are described. This waveguide supports propagation of modes with unusual propagation properties. The comparatively low value of losses has explained.

We investigate 1D and 2D domain-wall (DW) states in systems of two nonlinear-Schrödinger (NLS) equations, which are coupled by the linear mixing and by the XPM (cross-phase-modulation). The system applies to the bimodal light propagation in nonlinear optics and two-component Bose-Einstein condensates. Approximate analytical solutions for the DWs are found near the point of the symmetry-breaking bifurcation of the CW (continuous-wave) states. An exact DW solution is obtained for ratio 3 ∶ 1 of the XPM and SPM coefficients. The DWs between flat asymmetric CW states, which are mirror images to each other, are stable, while all other species of the DWs, with zero crossing(s) in one or two components, are unstable. An effective potential of attraction between DWs is derived. An exact stable solution is also found for the DW trapped by an external single-peak potential. In the 2D geometry, stable two-component vortices are found, with topological charges s = 1, 2, 3. Radial oscillations of annular DW-shaped pulsons, with s = 0, 1, 2, are studied too.

We study vortex clusters in a circular array of nonlinear waveguides coupled to a central waveguide. Multivortex solitons are found analytically and numerically and their linear stability is determined. A seven-waveguide coupler can support two distinct types of multivortex breathers, involving either the coordinated charge flipping of vortices or the rotation of vortices around the central waveguide.

Barium and strontium tungstate crystals were found to be very promising for developing crystalline Raman materials. UV and IR absorption were investigated in these crystals. The results on UV absorption are discussed in terms of Urbach rule. Our results prove that barium and strontium tungstate crystals can work efficiently in Raman lasers in visible and near IR from 264 nm to 5300 nm spectral regions.

High photorefractive response is obtained in the photorefractive LiNbO3 waveguides fabricated by the combined proton and copper exchange. It has been shown, that holographic recording with guided beams can be more effectively used, comparatively to recording with external beams, for fabrication of micro-Bragg reflectors in the photorefactive LiNbO3 waveguides.
