Curriculum vitae is a Latin expression meaning "career" or "life course". That means the data set concerning name, age, marital status, situation, studies, diplomas, published works and other activities of a student, an applicant for a position, for an exam or for a public office, and others. In short, it is the document that provides an outlook of the person as an individual; that is why this document must be carefully prepared as to precise and true contents, as to presentation and as to writing.

We discuss the main problems which make a scientific text difficult to find, to be read or to be accepted by readers. A scientific text is considered a logical argument. Therefore, methods, results and data from literature are premises supporting the conclusions of the work; and in the "Introduction" session, the justification corroborates the objective of the study. This conception makes the text a hermetically coherent structure where only the necessary data should be included (some controversy is still pertinent). In a second step, we show formal mistakes in scientific writing which make texts less attractive. Thus, we give examples of errors or inadequacy of formal aspects of presenting titles, abstracts, results (figures and tables), and grammar mistakes in Portuguese (but also valid for English grammar). After that, we emphasize the need for writing in international language (English) and for publication in periodicals with international impact on the scientific community. Finally, considerations to improve the Brazilian periodicals in the biological area are presented.

This text presents a reflection on the chief steps involved in experimental execution, and approaches sequentially the following aspects: a) what is research?, b) why carry out a research?, c) how can a research be useful in the future?, d) what are the stages involved in a research?, and e) who should be considered authors of a research? Finally, this article mentions the importance of results analysis and the relevance of the obtained results to the community.

This article stresses the importance of ethical relations involved in intellectual production, particularly as regards quantity, quality, authorship and publication. It reaffirms the importance of ethics while managing workgroups, and the effective participation in the development of experimental projects.

A Human Teeth Bank (HTB) is a nonprofit institution, associated to a college, to a university or to some other institution. Its purpose is to fulfill academic needs, by supplying human teeth for research or for preclinical laboratory training of students, thus eliminating the illegal commerce of teeth that still takes place in dental schools. It is also up to an HTB to work for the elimination of cross-infection caused by indiscriminate handling of extracted teeth. In order to work properly, an HTB should have a strict control of its internal procedures, which include separation and stocking of teeth, as well as an appropriate maintaining of donors' and beneficiaries' records. In this article, we discuss the functions that an HTB can perform, and how the Human Teeth Bank, School of Dentistry, University of S o Paulo, works and organizes itself today.

This paper presents a historical literature review on the evaluation of periodicals and the methodology employed for their evaluation. It emphasizes the attention that should be given to the contents of the periodicals and their format based on technical standards in order to reach a global quality of the publications. This paper includes a summary of the most important aspects of the technical standards for periodicals and scientific articles.

The professed importance of ethical relations in the development of researches in human beings has been observed in many standards. This text approaches the complexity of procedures, guidelines, risk and benefit analyses, and innumerable contributions, given the significance of pertinent and up-to-date consideration on the matter.
