Vision-only outdoor localization of two-wheel tractor for autonomous operation in agricultural fields 用于农业领域自主操作的两轮拖拉机的纯视觉室外定位

This paper outlines the problem of outdoor autonomous robot localization for agricultural operations. Vision based outdoor localization system is developed entirely of off-the-shelf components that can accurately guide a field robot in small agricultural fields. Visual odometry using downward faced camera is proposed as a high resolution relative localization system. A stereo vision based range measurement system is also developed and field tested as an absolute localization system that can bound the incremental error caused by the visual odometry system. The extended Kalman filter with measurement gating is implemented using both visual odometry and stereo range measurement data. Field tests demonstrated proposed system is capable of localization of two wheel tractor at a very low cost with acceptable accuracy in small agricultural fields.

Neuro fuzzy based routing protocol for mobile ad-hoc networks 基于神经模糊的移动自组织网络路由协议

Wireless Ad Hoc Networks are capable of communication through wireless medium without the need for a pre-existing infrastructure. Much effort has gone into mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) research over the past decade. Yet, even today, mobile ad-hoc networking is seen as a relatively new area of research. The reason for this can be traced to the fact that the maturity in truly understanding these networks is still alarmingly low and actual deployment of these networks rare. There are plenty of techniques in route finding and link establishment in MANET based on various concepts such as “pro-active”, “reactive”, “power awareness”, “cross-layering” etc. Most of these techniques are rather restrictive, taking into account a few of the several aspects that go into effective route establishment. The several factors that decide and influence the routing have to be considered as a whole in the difficult task of finding the best solution in route finding and optimization. The inputs to the system are manifold and apparently unrelated. Most of the parameters are imprecise or non-crisp in nature. The uncertainty and imprecision lead to think that intelligent routing techniques are essential and important in evolving robust and dependable solutions to route finding. The obvious method by which this can be achieved is the deployment of soft computing techniques such as Neural Nets, Fuzzy Logic and Genetic algorithms. Our paper presented here seeks to explore new horizons in this direction. The results of our experimentation with simulator named hypernet have been very satisfactory and we have achieved the goal of optimal route finding to a large extent.

Conventional video shot segmentation to semantic shot segmentation 传统视频镜头分割到语义镜头分割

Video shot segmentation is a preliminary process used in video content analysis which requires for content description. Conventional shot segmentation techniques nourished with statistical approaches depend on chromatic distributions of video frames. However, these conventional approaches lagging behind in performing semantic shot segmentation where more intuitive and perceptive for human understanding and search. This paper presents a novel mechanism which capable of perform semantic shot segmentation without additional computational and description cost for semantic video content depiction process. This mechanism bypasses the traditional video shot segmentation which is normally performs at the beginning of video content depiction and instead it perform meaningful shot boundary identification at the end based on the results of video visual concept classification. This is a positive starting point to perform structuring of video content using semantic units of shots rather than abrupt discontinued shots. Further, this paper introduces a search mechanism empowered by semantic shot segmentation.

Financial forecasting based on artificial neural networks: Promising directions for modeling 基于人工神经网络的财务预测:建模的有前途的方向

Financial forecasting plays a critical role in present economic context where neural networks have become a good alternative technique over traditional methods. Vast ranges of neural models are developed to achieve better accuracy in forecasting. In addition, the ways to find out a good neural architecture is being explored by the research community. In the literature, main problems are figured out within the area of data preparing and neural network design. In this paper, the reasons that affect the performance of the models are discussed based on empirical and mathematical evidence. Finally, this paper presents the directions towards a more suitable neural model for financial forecasting by combining data preprocessing techniques, clustering techniques and support vector machine.

Impact of communication over a TCP/IP network on the performance of a coordinated control scheme to reduce power fluctuation due to distributed renewable energy generation TCP/IP网络通信对减少分布式可再生能源发电功率波动的协调控制方案性能的影响

The integration of small scale solar & wind generation into distribution networks could cause power fluctuations due to the intermittent & random nature of these sources. This could become one of the significant concern in future power system operator. Though the development of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) can address effectively the aforesaid concern, the high cost of batteries making it economically less attractive. The participation of consumers in energy markets actively and allowing some of their equipment to be used in demand side management operations in future has the potential to reduce the capacity requirements of BESS. Wide scale implementations of demand side management require the exchange of information between controllable system elements and a demand management controller in near realtime. The internet, though not guarantying the quality of service, can support information exchange economically and without much coverage related issues. A scheme developed for the coordinated control of system elements to reduce fluctuations caused by renewable sources was tested for its performance when information exchange is carried out over a segment of a university network connected to the internet. Results obtained from this study are also presented in the paper.

Distributed beamforming techniques for dual-hop decode-and-forward MIMO relay networks 双跳解码转发MIMO中继网络的分布式波束形成技术

Cooperative relay networks with multiple antennas at each node enable achieving both macro diversity and micro diversity in a wireless fading channel. Using beamforming along with space-time (ST) coding at the source and the relay of a cooperative relay network allows achieving both diversity gain and array gain. In this paper we propose novel distributed beamforming techniques for a space-time (ST) coded dual-hop cooperative multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) decode-and-forward (DF) relay network to minimize the pair-wise error probability (PEP), while maintaining the SNR at the relay node above a given threshold. Beamforming techniques for the availability of full-instantaneous channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT) as well as statistical CSIT are proposed. The source and the relay compute their own beamforming matrices based only its own CSIT subject to individual power constraints at each node. The simulation results show that the proposed beamforming techniques offer a significant performance enhancement over the performance of a relay network using ST coding only. Furthermore, the proposed beamforming techniques maintain their performance improvement throughout the possible spatial correlation factor range for the channel.

Parallel grid-based method and belief fusion — Real-time cooperative non-Gaussian estimation 基于并行网格的信念融合方法-实时协同非高斯估计

This paper presents a parallel grid-based method and belief fusion for real-time cooperative Bayesian estimation. The grid-based recursive Bayesian estimation (RBE) method effectively maintains the belief of objects even with no detection event but requires large computation for its prediction and correction processes as well as fusion process in cooperative estimation. In order for real-time estimation, the belief fusion proposed in the paper carries out the fusion of belief outside the RBE loop. The parallelization of the entire grid-based method and belief fusion further accelerates the RBE so that real-time estimation is possible even in highly dynamical environments. Numerical examples have first demonstrated the validity of the proposed approach through parametric studies. The proposed approach was then applied to the cooperative search by autonomous unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs), and its real-time capability has been demonstrated.

The grid-based recursive Bayesian estimation (RBE) method effectively maintains the belief of objects even with no detection event but requires large computation for its prediction and correction processes as well as fusion process in cooperative estimation. In order for real-time estimation, the belief fusion proposed in the paper carries out the fusion of belief outside the RBE loop. The parallelization of the entire grid-based method and belief fusion further accelerates the RBE so that real-time estimation is possible even in highly dynamical environments. Numerical examples have first demonstrated the validity of the proposed approach through parametric studies. Error resilience for multi-view video using redundant macroblock coding 使用冗余宏块编码的多视点视频的容错性

Multi-view video coding has received a considerable amount of interest in recent years. However, error resilience for multi-view video coding has not yet been investigated in great depth. This paper presents a novel error resilience method to mitigate the effects of packet loss during transmission. Bandwidth efficient redundant coding is used, where the redundant stream is generated only for selected macroblocks that fall within a Region of Interest (ROI). Otsu's gray threshold selection method is employed for selecting ROIs. The proposed system is implemented using the Joint Scalable Video Model (JSVM) codec and its' performance is analyzed in a simulated Internet protocol packet network environment. The results show that the proposed system provides considerable quality gain, in terms of both PSNR and SSIM metrics

Combined feature descriptor for Content based Image Retrieval 基于内容的图像检索的组合特征描述符

Content based Image Retrieval (CBIR) allows automatically extracting target images according to objective visual contents of the image itself. Representation of visual features and similarity match are important issues in CBIR. Colour and texture features are important properties in CBIR systems. In this paper, a combined feature descriptor for CBIR is proposed to enhance the retrieval performance for CBIR. This method is developed by exploiting the wavelets and colour histogram moments. First, Haar wavelet is used to decompose colour images into wavelet coefficients. Then image feature extraction and similarity matching are performed by means of histogram moments. Ten categories of colour images are used to test the proposed technique. Experiment results show significant improvement of retrieval efficiency as compared to that of histogram moments as well as 2D Discrete Wavelet Transform.

Comparative analysis of speed of convergence of MPPT techniques MPPT技术收敛速度的比较分析

In order to extract maximum power available from a solar cell in a photovoltaic system, maximum power point tracking should be activated. Several maximum power point tracking (MPPT) techniques have been developed over the past years. In an environment where, varying irradiance levels prevail, time taken to track the maximum power point is important. In this paper, three widely used MPPT tracking techniques are compared with regard to their convergence speed at irradiance disturbances. The results of the simulation study are validated on a laboratory prototype and findings are presented. It has been shown that the incremental conductance method is superior at irradiance transients.
