The study examines the impact of personalized virtual reality (VR) on mood disorders in elderly people with neurocognitive disorders (NCD) living in nursing homes and long-term care units. Twenty-seven participants were divided into two groups ("personalized" versus "generic") and underwent twelve immersive VR sessions. Results showed an improvement in mood disorders and quality of life, with no significant difference between groups. Future research is needed on the use of VR in non-drug interventions.

The model for residential establishments for the dependent elderly (Ehpad) is currently in crisis, both in terms of the relevance of its accommodation offering, its attractiveness to professionals, and its economic model. Against this backdrop, the University Hospital of Brest has decided to innovate by transforming its Ehpads into an innovative housing estate for the elderly, with 400 residents and a truly home-like environment. This transformation project is built around a new work philosophy centered on the resident, and an architectural project designed as a home, drawing on research findings and mobilizing an artificial intelligence tool known as the "augmented ear" for caregivers.

Fanny Gaudin, Francesca Paolantoni

HospiSenior is an innovative design approach for co-designing and testing a hospital room adapted to the needs of the elderly. It has been developed by the Groupement de Coopération Sanitaire (GCS) des Hôpitaux Universitaires du Grand Ouest (Hugo) as a result of collaborative work between the hospital teams of Hugo's five university hospital centers (CHU) (CHU Angers, CHU Brest, CHU Rennes, CHU Nantes and CHU Tours) and close partnerships. As a result, there are a number of exciting developments in store for the user evaluation, a clinical study is underway and a new Hugo geriatrics and gerontology research network has been set up!

3D printing is revolutionizing the lives of senior citizens, enabling the creation of customized solutions tailored to their specific needs. Thanks to co-design, seniors can actively participate in the creation of technical aids, in collaboration with occupational therapists. This approach promotes autonomy and well-being, while reducing manufacturing costs and lead times. This technology is thus becoming a key tool for improving the quality of life of our elders, right in the heart of homes for the dependent elderly.

[Impact of APA on functional performance in elderly sarcopenic patients]. [APA对老年肌少症患者功能表现的影响]。

Adapted physical activity (APA) is an important means of preventing sarcopenia. Our aim was to evaluate the impact on functional performance of a multi-component program entitled "circuit gym", including the use of muscle-strengthening machines specially designed for seniors. This was a single-center interventional study combining endurance, machine resistance and balance exercises, lasting three months. We included 95 patients (mean age 82.5 years, 59% women). A median increase of two points in the Short Physical Performance Battery was observed at the end of the program (p<0.0001), as well as a significant improvement in walking speed, chair raising and Timed Up and Go. This study demonstrated a functional improvement in elderly sarcopenic individuals at three months associated with multicomponent adapted physical activity.

[Educational intervention using simulated emergency situations in a geriatric ward]. [在老年病房模拟紧急情况的教育干预]。

Simulation in medicine enhances the learning of technical and non-technical knowledge and skills. Highly developed in intensive care and emergency medicine, it is much less so in geriatrics, even though it represents an interesting tool for improving patient care and teamwork. We present an example of emergency simulation sessions set up in a geriatric short-stay department.

Day care centers are medical and social facilities that provide day care for people over 60 with Alzheimer's or related diseases. The main aim of the study presented here was to assess the impact of horticultural therapy sessions on the well-being of users, as well as on anxiety, depression and balance. While both day-care professionals and users have embraced the practice, the study failed to show an immediate benefit on users' well-being. This may be linked to the methodological limitations of this first pilot study.
