We investigated sensitivity improvement of a dynamic displacement measurement system composed of a phase-modulated fiber optic interferometer and a spatial optical system. The newly developed system measured the dynamic displacement including high-frequency vibration even when the reflected power from a sample was -50 dBm.

To realize 6G, we investigated Laguerre Gaussian mode multiplexing communication system capable of large capacity communication with long-distance propagation in atmospheric turbulence. As a results, it was confirmed that improvement of power loss and communication quality can be achieved simultaneously by considering the combined Laguerre-Gaussian modes.

We propose a mode recognition method based on sparse coding for beams carrying orbital angular momentum. Intensity profiles of Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beam having different topological charges (TCs) are used for sparse dictionary learning and recognition process. High-accuracy recognition is achieved for LG beams with TCs from 0 to 6.

We demonstrated a flexible light-induced self-written (LISW) waveguide using soft material. A straight LISW optical waveguide with almost same core size as that of the input graded-index plastic optical fiber was actualized successfully. Optical interconnection by two-way irradiation and its flexibility were also demonstrated.

We investigate the soliton stability in multimode fiber with an optically induced temporal potential (TP). The soliton experiences a cross-phase-modulation-induced TP when co-propagating with a pump pulse. While without the TP both the spatiotemporal soliton and continuous wave are stable, the TP makes only the spatiotemporal soliton stationary and stable.

We demonstrated that a propagating fiber fuse was terminated by using optical pulses as the input light in dispersion-shifted fiber with an input power of 3.4 W, which is three times larger than the fuse propagation threshold. The suppression of fuse initiation was also confirmed under the same input pulses.

A Distributed Feedback waveguide with a diffraction grating on the Si/CaF2 heterostructurewaveguide is proposed for near-and mid-infrared applications. In this study, we focused on a Si-based quantum cascade laser structures. Simulation of the waveguide operating at a bragg wavelength of 1.70 [µm] shows that arbitrary transmittance and reflectance can be obtained by changing the grating conditions.

We improved the dry-etching process for Nb2O5 horizontal slot waveguides to suppress roughness in etched surfaces. We have also fabricated horizontal slot waveguides by the improved process. In the fabricated waveguides, the smooth etched surface and the transmitted light were successfully obtained.

The incident angle dependence of the diffraction properties of orthogonal-circular polarization gratings (OCPGs) fabricated using a polymer liquid crystal exhibiting biaxial anisotropy have been investigated. It was found that a specific biaxial anisotropy reduces the incident angle dependence of optically thin OCPGs against the wavelength of an incident light.

We present a sub-µm-scale plasmomechanical resonator and demonstrate optical excitation and detection of picometer-order longitudinal motion. The resonator allows measurement of mechanical oscillation signal over a broad wavelength of the probe laser. We also investigated the tunability and thermoelastic properties of mechanical resonance depending on pump power.
