Purpose: Startups have significant differences compared to other companies. They have many intangible assets (e.g., team tenure and experience of founders), are risky, and tend not to generate profits in their initial years (Heirman & Clarysse, 2007; Weber & Zulehner, 2009). Does the startups’ financing choice also differ from that of traditional companies? We analyzed the capital structure of startups in their first years of life based on the classic tradeoff and pecking order theories. Methodology/approach: We collected data on 40 startups in the city of Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil, through a questionnaire on the profiles of the founders, company characteristics, bottom-line performance and financing sources. The data collected covered the year of founding and the three subsequent years. Findings: The results indicated that these startups mainly financed themselves through the founders’ capital in all four years covered. Only in the third year did they start using resources generated internally, indicating pecking order adherence. However, the presence of angel investors and government subsidies contrasted with the absence of bank debt. In line with the tradeoff theory, bank debt was not a viable financing option in the early years of these firms since they had low profitability and high risk. Theoretical/methodological contributions: We offer a theoretical contribution by analyzing the adequacy of traditional financial theories in the specific context of startups. Originality: The finance literature about startups is scarce, and few studies have analyzed these companies from the capital structure theoretical perspective. Social contributions / for management: We provide a panorama of the financing of startups to support their financial planning regarding fundraising.

Objective: To analyze the international scientific production in the field of entrepreneurial action. Method: To investigate the theme of entrepreneurial action, the bibliometric method was used to fulfill the desired purposes. In the operationalization of the research, articles available in the Web of Science and Scopus databases were included. The database selection procedure was carried out by analyzing the documents using the software: My EndNote Web, Microsoft Excel and VOSviewer. Results: It was possible to identify the scarcity of compassionate research on the subject, in addition to the fact that little is known about the emergence of an entrepreneurial action and how, in fact, this research axis can contribute to studies on entrepreneurship. Theoretical contributions: It was identified that there are promising studies on the subject that made possible the exchange of the concept of entrepreneurial action and the different areas of knowledge through the construction of a synthesis matrix. Relevance/originality: The field of entrepreneurial action is still incipient and requires greater efforts towards a theoretical and empirical development, in order to establish and contribute to the construction of a very limited and defined conceptual structure about the phenomenon. Contributions to management: Studies on entrepreneurial action are directly related to case studies that report the emergence of entrepreneurial actions in organizations, which emphasizes the concentration of work in the areas of management and business.

Objective of the study: This study assesses the impact of entrepreneurial education on students of entrepreneurship courses at the undergraduate level of Brazilian universities. Methodology: The methodology adopted was pre/post based on the collection of primary survey data among 398 entrepreneurship students of 10 undergraduate courses from six Brazilian universities, involving twelve professors. Data analysis was performed using confirmatory factor analysis and paired t-tests to compare means. Main results: Entrepreneurship elective courses have a greater positive impact (especially for entrepreneurial attitudes, perceived behavioral control and entrepreneurial intention) for undergraduate students, when compared to mandatory courses, which negatively impacted entrepreneurial attitudes, perceived behavioral control and entrepreneurial intention. Theoretical / methodological contributions: The development of a framework to analyze the impact of entrepreneurial education based on the recent entrepreneurship literature representing an extended version of the Theory of Planned Behavior that includes entrepreneurial knowledge and competencies. Relevance / originality: The application of a rigorous methodology (pre/post intervention) with application of paired t-tests and the comparison between elective and mandatory entrepreneurship courses in large database.

Objective: to investigate the motivations, profile and skills of the individual who chooses to undertake; promote reflection about the entrepreneur's position in the face of a major crisis; and seek an answer to the question: Is digital influencer to be an entrepreneur? Methodology/Approach: teaching case. Main results: in the “teaching notes”, discussions are suggested on entrepreneurship itself, the use of the business model and the internationalization of small companies. Theoretical and methodological contributions: the structure of the case contributes methodologically to the dynamics in the classroom, constituting one more tool for learning the subject in question. Relevance/originality: the case is relevant because it shows the story of an entrepreneur (Breno) who, after realizing his dream and creating a promising business (a travel agency), as a result of a major crisis (Covid-19, lockdown and its impact on the travel industry, as well as the depression and feeling of impotence generated by it), needs to reinvent himself professionally (becoming a successful online consultant for entrepreneurs).
