In this paper novel distributed universal compaction algorithm for support of multipoint to point or point to point transmission in opposite direction is presented. Most of the energy needed for executing the algorithm is used in receiving (supportive) node, which is supposed to have plenty of energy for transmission. It generates appropriate (supportive) sequence, which is received by a supported node with limited energy resources. The supported node when it needs to transmit stored information towards the supportive node sends a short message (in extreme case only one pulse) in agreed time point after it discovers a string in the supportive sequence, which is identical to a prefix of the string of stored data, which waits for transmission towards the supportive node. Results of simplified simulation experiments are presented as well. They give proof of the concept for point to point communication. Possible application in Un-attended WSN in order to increase security (help to hide Wireless Sensors) or in Wireless Passive Sensor Network in order to increase WSN lifetime are viable.

An efficient IQ imbalance estimation and compensation scheme for MIMO-OFDM systems is proposed. The scheme exploits the inherent data structure imposed by Space Frequency Block Code (SFBC), for lowering the implementation complexity. As such, no further requirements are laid on the preamble design. The proposed algorithm can be easily extended to the MIMO-OFDM systems using STBC or with frequency-selective IQ imbalance. Simulation results demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed IQ imbalance estimation scheme in practical MIMO-OFDM scenarios such as LTE.

A measurement campaign has been carried out in Japan to evaluate UWB technology for both aggregation characteristics and coexistence performance. Different from other previous studies, our evaluation is based on measurements with real devices. We examined both UWB low band and UWB high band, the latter has rarely been investigated by others. UWB aggregation results with real measurements are also rare. Both OFDM type and impulse type UWB were used in the measurements. Coexistence evaluations with several existing wireless systems were conducted. Main results of the measurements and evaluations are presented.

With the rapid development of wireless communication, it is an inevitable trend that WLAN as a wireless access mode will integrate with 3GPP system and form the interworking network. How to realize the fast and authentic handover scheme of WLAN-3GPP interworking network becomes one of the focus issues in this field. In view of the weaknesses of existing handover schemes, this paper proposes an improved fast and authentic handover scheme, the basic idea is adding management server (MS) in the existing architecture, which can enhance the security and efficiency of handover. This improved scheme also considers other comprehensive factors, such as load balance, handover time delay and operator manageability, and so on. Through the performance analysis, the results show that the performance can satisfy the developing requirement of WLAN-3GPP interworking handover.

We present pre-filtering methods of self-encoded spread spectrum (SESS) in dense multipath channels. SESS eliminates the need for traditional transmit and receive pseudo noise (PN) code generators. In this paper, we propose multipath management of SESS in dense multipath urban environments. We propose a transmitter pre-filtering method that retains only good paths that contribute to the data decision positively at the receiver, and eliminates undesirable paths. The proposed technique significantly improves the system performance while increasing the transmit power moderately.

In this paper we consider a FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access) system employing OQPSK modulations (Offset Quaternary Phase Shift Keying) with quasi-constant envelope. To increase the overall spectral efficiency we consider spectral overlapping between different frequency channels. We present an iterative frequency-domain receiver with parallel multiuser detection. Our performance results show that our receiver is able to cope with the strong ACI levels (Adjacent Channel Interference) inherent to spectral overlapping, as well as with the interference between the in-phase (I) and quadrature (Q) components of the OQPSK signals, even for severely time-dispersive channels.

SC-FDE (Single-Carrier with Frequency-Domain Equalization) together with soft packet combining ARQ techniques (Automatic Repeat reQuest) was shown to be effective for broadband wireless systems with deep fading effects such as those inherent to shadowing. However, they are not suitable to cope with strong interference effects, especially when the channel remains fixed. In this paper, we consider UWB (Ultra Wide Band) systems employing SC-FDE techniques in the presence of strong interference signals that occupy a significant part of the transmission band and we propose suitable soft combining ARQ schemes. Our techniques are able to cope with strong interference levels as well as deep fading, even for fixed channels.

Based on nonlinear OQPSK (Offset Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) format it is possible to define a wide class of TC-OQAM signals (Trellis Coded-Offset Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) with good gains. This paper investigates nonlinear effects in TC-OQAM signals, taking advantage of the the nonlinear OQPSK format. This allows an analytical characterization of the transmitted signals when affected by nonlinear devices such as those inherent to a nonlinear power amplification, which can be used for obtaining the PSD (Power Spectral Density) of the transmitted signals, the design of the optimum receiver as the corresponding performance.

As block coding and intelligent receiver combining in multi-antenna systems moves from the theorectical into the physical domain, it is necessary to apply robust analysis to the problems encountered with the development of real radio systems that are often overlooked during theoretical development of methods and processes. One such problem is the lack of synchronization between the transmitter and receiver sampling clocks. This text attempts to analyze the significance of poorly correcting for differences in the transmit and receive sample clocks by simulating the BER of an Alamouti space-time coded system under a variety of sample rates and clock offsets. The results can be used to estimate the impact on link quality by a given sampler's estimation error using the empirical model given.

This paper describes a method for environmental audio events analysis. The audio events are modeled using a common universal codebook. The codebook is based on the bag-of-frames (BOF). The features corresponding to the frames and extracted from all audio files are grouped into clusters using the k-means algorithm. The individual audio file is modeled on the normalized distribution of the numbers of cluster bins corresponding to the frames of this file. Each audio file is described by one vector. The audio data are represented as feature-file matrix similar to term-document representation in Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI). The LSI is applied to the feature-file matrix to represent the data in latent semantic space. Then the primary file description is converted to the vectors of similarity to anchor reference data. For anchor reference the training data are used. Each component of this vector is a probabilistic similarity between target file and anchor reference file corresponding to the considered component. The LSI is applied once more to the new feature-file matrix, mapping the data to the latent semantic space in the anchor reference space. For audio recognition and audio retrieval the nearest-neighbor (NN) algorithm is exploited. The described data representation improves the results of audio retrieval and recognition.
