Background and aim: as a reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, countries all over the world have undertaken wide-scale measures to prevent and limit the spread of the virus. Suggested preventative measures mainly included "lockdown", social distancing, wearing facemasks, and vaccinations. The success of these measures was widely dependent on the cooperation of citizens. However, people reacted differently to the several types of restrictions and recommendations. Even if the majority followed the rules, others ignored them. This study aims to investigate the reasons for the compliance or violation of the rules developed to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy.
Methods: to answer the research question, the analysis of two different surveys conducted on a representative sample of Italians (N=2000) were conducted and analysed through descriptive statistics.
Results: the data collection agreed with published literature. Compliance with rules during emergencies followed diligence and altruistic patterns. Fear of sanctions did not seem to work in relation to rules compliance during emergency situations. The lack of clarity of regulations in terms of complexity or constant changes led to non-compliance even intervening as a neutralization technique.
Conclusions: government's fear-based interventions did not seem to work since Italians tended to adhere to the rules primarily out of respect for legitimate authority. Future research should focus more on the topic of trust in institutions in emergency situations with the aim of highlighting the key points for successful governance, also in terms of rules compliance.

Background and aim Surgical site infection (SSI) is a major complication following surgery associated with increased morbidity and mortality, as well as increased health and not health costs. A variety of factors affect airborne contamination in operating theatres (OT). Following the Medical Research Council study showing a correlation between microbial air contamination and SSI incidence in prosthetic joint surgery ultraclean OTs have been recommended for this type of surgery, while OTs supplied by turbulent airflow plants are recommended for other types of surgery. The aim of this study was to illustrate the studies on this topic. Methods Scopus was considered for articles published until January 2023 on OTs and air contamination in article title or abstract or keywords. Many issues were deepened: "microbial", "bacterial", "fungi", "viruses", "surgical site/wound infection", "monitoring/sampling", "air changes", "behaviour", "door openings", "particles", turbulent flow", "unidirectional flow". Results Total papers published were 907 and 249 papers faced monitoring/sampling. A total of 313 papers investigated airborne bacterial contamination and 63 papers investigated fungal air contamination. There were 218 papers that have evaluated particle contamination in OTs. Many other issues were deepened. Conclusions This study shows a picture of the studies on biological air contamination in OTs and related issues over time. We think that the results of our study will provide a useful tool to increase awareness towards a better sharing of aims, approaches, and results, above all in the interest of the patients, but also of the health services of the different countries. Adolescence is a critical period for the physical and cognitive development. To promote adolescents' health and well-being, prevention and health education interventions are to be implemented at all levels of society, with schools and families playing a fundamental role. In 2015, the "Semi di Melo" Center for Education and Research on Childhood and Adolescence was established in Milan, northern Italy to help parents and teachers to better explicate their supportive role toward their children/students during adolescence. Through a survey called 'Selfie', conducted via an internet-based, self-administered, and fully anonymous questionnaire, Semi di Melo collects qualitative and quantitative information on the demographic characteristics, lifestyle, leisure time, risk behavior, social relationships and mental wellbeing of middle and high school students in Italy. Data are then analyzed, interpreted, and shared with teachers, parents, and students during guided workshops and focus groups aimed at raising awareness of risky behaviours during adolescence and facilitating intergenerational exchange. To date, the Selfie questionnaire has been distributed to more than 400 Italian public schools, reaching more than 90,000 students. In late 2022, Semi di Melo and the University of Pavia started a collaboration to expand research on data acquired from the Selfie questionnaire through an analytical approach, allowing a more comprehensive understanding of Italian adolescents' lifestyle, social, and psychological well-being. The gathered evidence will be made available to help educators, health and social care professionals, as well as local authorities and decision-makers to develop effective support systems and evidence-based interventions that help adolescents realise their full potentia.

Background and aim of the work: Home confinement during the first wave of COVID-19 subverted people's routines and generated a lot of stress among individuals. In addition to the 'pure' mental health consequences-a major public health concern, itself-this stressful situation led to a risk of worsening eating behaviours. The aim of this study was to investigate the potential deterioration of dietary habits in a cohort of women with breast cancer (BC).
Methods: We used data from 781 women with BC enrolled in the DianaWeb project. We used validated questionnaires to collect data concerning socio-demographic/anthropometric parameters, quality of life (QoL), lifestyle and the change in dietary habits before and during the lockdown period (December 2019 and June 2020).
Results: Data showed that psychiatric treatment, QoL and health perception significantly affected the food choices of the cohort (p = 0.048, p=0.002, and p=0.001, respectively), decisively contributing to a worsening in their eating behaviour. Moreover, sedentary behaviour during the lockdown also influenced food choice (p = 0.010): individuals who increased their sedentary behaviour were more likely to decrease their intake of recommended foods (p = 0.033).
Conclusions: In summary, emotional state and mood-here investigated as QoL and health perception-definitely affected dietary habits in women with BC in the first COVID-19 lockdown. Given the centrality of correct eating behaviour in BC management, psychological aspects should not be contemplated merely as confined mental health matters but should be definitely taken into consideration also as factors that seriously affect an individual's healthy lifestyle.

Background and aim: The Decree of the President of the Italian Republic 14/01/1997 is the reference norm related to the accreditation of public and private healthcare structures. This guideline establishes the minimum structural, technological and organizational requirements that each structure operating in the Italian territory must comply with.
Methods: In occasion of the project work for the postgraduate training course in healthcare management by ALTEMS School, a team of researchers conducted a survey on the state of updating of the minimum structural requirements indicated in the norm-in particular those relating to hospital facilities- with those adopted by the individual regions through the analysis of the most up-to-date regional regulations.
Results: Precisely starting from the comparison of regional references and from the regulations on the subject of structural accreditation which suggest strategic environmental units and which address some key-aspects relating to the contemporary design of healing environments (i.e. semi-intensive care units, hybrid operating theatres, etc.), the outcome of the project work is to define a proposal to update the national reference document, also in the light of the currently changing needs in terms of hospital design.
Conclusions: The research aims to become a starting milestone for future investigations. The team investigated - in this first phase - the functional areas listed in the norm, and the next step aims to extend the analysis also to the innovative functions (i.e. buffer spaces, hybrid operating theatres, sub-intensive care units, etc.) and/or introduced only the last years which have only been regulated in some regions.

Detecting SARS-CoV-2 remains a critical component in the global effort to control COVID-19, particularly with the emergence of variants. Since the outbreak, diagnostic techniques have evolved to meet different contexts and needs. Methods: In this study, we analyzed the use of these techniques in five countries (i.e. Italy, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Israel) based on their specific national testing and contact tracing strategies. We also examined the number of tests performed per week, the positivity rate of tests, and the mortality rate in these populations during the same time periods. These countries were chosen based on the directives of the consortium involved in the CORONADX project.

Background and aim: Italy is a country where the percentage of elderly population is very high (23% over 65). The aim of the investigation is to bring out which aspects of the spaces intended to accommodate elderly People with Dementia pathologies should be most present and potentially interested in becoming cornerstones of a new model of Long-Term Care facilities (LTC).
Methods: This research uses a case studies analysis followed by a web based survey as methodological tools. The questions were identified following an analysis of recent European case studies. The survey has been submitted to a panel of stakeholders (users, pratictioner, designer and manager in the healthcare sector). It is articulated in eight items touching on functional, configurational, and perceptual aspects of the LTC.
Results: The 210 responses received provided a basis for comparison with the trend lines detected by the case study analysis, establishing continuity on some configurational aspects and providing divergent views for others. The research found a strong need to introduce new service activities and technologies aimed at the care and assistance of guests with dementia. These specific needs often involve the introduction of new spaces and environments or the redefinition of the same, where already present.
Conclusions: The results highlights that a new model of residence must incorporate new technological applications, outdoor spaces, that are perceived significantly by both patients and practitioners, and improve well-being of all users.

Background and aim: Nowadays Health Technology Assessment (HTA) is becoming more important in the hospital management, until the conception of Hospital Based HTA (HB-HTA), considered as a tool of HTA that is a multidisciplinary process to determine the value of a health technology in health sector. The aims of this study are the investigation of the current state of the art and of the diffusion of the HTA culture in hospitals (HB-HTA) also the analysis of the thinking of healthcare professionals regarding the usefulness of HTA.
Methods: The study was performed through the administration of two questionnaires respectively to hospitals' HealthCare Workers (HCW) to assess the HTA's knowledge and to hospitals' HCW that have submitted a new technologies or devices' request to Direction between 2017 and 2019.
Results: Considering 988 questionnaires send to HCW only 416 (42.1%) answer were collected, with a higher attention towards HTA made by physicians (148; 35,6%). It's fundamental to observe that despite a mean response rate all the population shows interest for the HB-HTA concept as an instrument to help the hospital management. About the 23 questionnaires to HCW that have made request show a higher attention and knowledge to HTA.
Conclusions: In conclusion, in the current welfare landscape and for the future developments that will ensue from it, especially in the Italian context due to the increase of healthcare funds provided by the NRRP (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), the adoption of the HB-HTA method will represent a strategic lever to support clinical and organizational decision-making processes governance.

Background and aim: Health and Well-Being (HWB) measurement represents a key issue for companies in all sectors and a core element of social sustainability, according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Despite its importance for companies and in sustainability reporting, the topic has not been investigated yet from a cross-sectoral perspective. Therefore, this research aims to assess if health and well-being are disclosed in sustainability reports of the largest European companies.
Methods: The disclosure of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) has been investigated and compared according to the main international frameworks of sustainability. The research focused on sustainability reporting from a sample of the 30 largest companies in three methodological steps. First, the inclusion of HWB issues has been analyzed, identifying references to the SDGs and ISO 45001 within the documents. A second level of analysis considered the adoption of the Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) Standards, with particular attention to Health metrics (GRI:403). The third level of analysis aimed at researching health and well-being performances, linked to specific KPIs from two selected case studies.
Results: The review highlighted that all 30 companies generally refer to SDG 3 and SDG 8 in their sustainability reporting while 83%(n=25) of them also apply either Occupational Health and Safety ISO 45001 or Health metrics in GRI Standards; 22 (73%) companies adopted both GRI as the sustainability reporting standard and disclosed the adoption of ISO 45001 management system. Only in two cases, an additional structured framework for HWB is reported highlighting the need for more comprehensive KPIs, especially for employee's well-being.
Conclusions: The study highlighted that health indicators disclosure is generally limited to GRI Standards disclosure. To achieve greater transparency in sustainability reporting, there is a need to further investigate the issue. (www.actabiomedica.it).

Digital health records can provide advantages to healthcare practice, policy, and research. Several countries have established population-based digitalised data collection, integrated through data linkage techniques. In Lombardy (Italy), a regional population-based registry was established in the 2000s. It collects data from the social and health sector, anonymised immediately after their acquisition and restructured in a single repository. Data can be used for public health interest, planning, monitoring, services evaluation, and research. Indeed, data can also be provided to universities and other scientific institutes. The availability of such data enables to explore the epidemiology of infectious, chronic, and rare diseases. Thus, epidemiological research can support policymakers to tackle public health threats. However, analysis of electronic health records comes along with several challenges, including data inaccuracy, incompleteness, and biases. Researchers should take into consideration limits and barriers related to quality of data. Moreover, health data use must adhere to the national and European privacy legislation, at times limiting the potential of data integration. Therefore, even if big data drives innovation and scientific knowledge, ethical issues regarding privacy should be considered in public debate.
