The present study is focused on the biology and ecology of Danaus chrysippus on Rodos Island, Greece, contributing on the knowledge of its life cycle in nature throughout the autumn – early winter breeding period, which is described and illustrated here for the first time for the country. Distribution range, habitat requirements and larval hostplant preferences, which are closely related with specific microclimatic conditions and the availability of milkweed resources in the region, are discussed.

During the summer of 2021 northwestern and western areas of the Greek island of Crete were surveyed, in order to confirm certain observations of the diurnal butterfly fauna of the island. Research was focused especially on the unsurveyed north-western parts of the island, as well as surveying the species that are extending their areal (Cacyreus marshalli (Butler), Lampides boeticus (L.)). From 47 species reported from the island, 23 were observed. The surveys were all carried out during an especially hot and dry weather period (30-37 °C), between 30th of June and 6th of July. Additionally, a new larval host plant for L. boeticus was confirmed, as oviposition of females on Campsis radicans (Seem.) was observed on several occasions.

Evaluation and economic analysis of ecofriendly biological approaches for the management of shoot and fruit borer (Earias vittella F.) of okra 秋葵芽果螟生态生物治理方法评价与经济分析

During the years 2020 and 2021, the effects of various biopesticides and the egg parasitoid Trichogramma chilonis on the okra shoot and fruit borer were investigated in open fields. All interventions outperformed over the untreated control. The entomopathogenic bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis was the most promising biopesticide tested, with the lowest shoot (5.49% and 6.87% in 2020 and 2021, respectively) and fruit damage (4.95% and 5.65% in 2020 and 2021, respectively), followed by the entomopathogenic fungi Beauveria bassiana (7.08%, 8.04% shoot damage and 6.78% and 6.73% fruit damage during 2020 and 2021, respectively). Interestingly, all biopesticides evaluated were shown to be safe for the polyphagous predators occurring in the okra habitat, such as the ladybird beetles Menochilus sexmaculatus and Micraspis discolour and the spiders Marpissa spp. and Oxyopes lineatipes. However, emamectin benzoate 5% SG was the most effective treatment in terms of minimizing okra shoot and fruit damage, resulting in a maximum percent reduction over control (PROC) (85.54 and 80.90 against shoot damage and 76.60 and 71.33 against fruit damage during 2020 and 2021, respectively). Each treatment's economics were also analysed. The experimental plots treated with emamectin benzoate had the highest cost:benefit ratio (1:11.16), while B. thuringiensis had the highest (1:7.06) among the biopesticide / parasitoid releasing plots.

First occurrence of the black field earwig, Nala lividipes (Dermaptera: Labiduridae) in Greece 黑地蜈蚣在希腊首次发现(皮翅目:唇虱科)

The cosmopolitan black field earwig, Nala lividipes (Dufour, 1820) (Dermaptera: Labiduridae) is observed for the first time in Greece. A photographic record was obtained by the first author in 2016, from Salamis Island followed by a photographic citizen-science observation from Rhodes in 2021. Despite frequent inspections and efforts to raise public awareness, no additional samples or observations have been recovered. The poor study of Dermaptera in Greece and the absence of early warning systems for alien insects, may have delayed the detection of this alien species in the country. However, given the agricultural significance of N. lividipes, a short description is given to assist further data collection and monitoring. Finally, the potential establishment of the earwig in Greece, along with the impacts on the native flora and fauna are discussed.

Steppe Habitats’ Entomofauna At Ouled Djellel-Algeria: Statistical Analysis 阿尔及利亚Ouled djellel草原生境昆虫动物:统计分析

Statistical analyses was done for the obtained results from a study carried out on the 97 insects  species collected at Ouled Djellel steppe ecosystem of Biskra region. By using the PCA and the CAH of the XLSTAT software (2016. v. 3.1. .), we obtained a highest cumulative inertia (25.44%) explained by axis F1, represented by winter months  (December, January, February) and those of summer (June and July) and correlated with 31 species from the total collected species. In addition, different groups were obtained from the simultaneous representation of months and species, where four most indicative groups were validated using CAH with a height indication for the second group.

This is the first record of genus Scelio (Latreille, 1805) in Algeria. Two species of Scelio poecilopterus (Priesner, 1951) and Scelio vulgaris (Kieffer, 1908), were collected in tomato greenhouses from El Alia and El Hadjeb regions in the province of Biskra, southeastern Algeria in 2019-2020, using yellow pan traps, yellow bottles and Barber traps for sampling specimens, followed by laboratory methods to preserve and identify the samples.  Photographic material and information on these species are presented and described, on female specimens, in order to expand the knowledge about the distribution and biodiversity of egg parasitoids in our country.

In connection with the 10th International Symposium on Syrphidae in Lesbos, a pre- and post Symposium collecting expedition was held on the island of Samos, Greece in September 2019. In total 62 species were collected of which 19 are new species to the island of Samos. Moreover Ischiodon aegyptius and Paragus compeditus are new to Greece. The genera Eumerus and Merodon are well investigated in the SE Mediterranean area, and especially the Greek islands. The discovery of respectively five and two new species for Samos during this very short visit shows that with more effort many new species for the fauna of this island are to be expected.

In total 62 species were collected of which 19 are new species to the island of Samos. Moreover Ischiodon aegyptius and Paragus compeditus are new to Greece. The genera Eumerus and Merodon are well investigated in the SE Mediterranean area, and especially the Greek islands. Natural Enemies Associated with Black Parlatoria Scale, Parlatoria ziziphi (Lucas) (Homoptera: Diaspididae), in Citrus Orchards at El- Qualubia Governorate, Egypt 埃及El- Qualubia省柑橘园黑舌螨天敌(同翅目:舌螨科)

A survey on black parlatoria scale, Parlatoria ziziphi (Lucas), natural enemies present at El-Qualubia Governorate, Egypt, during the season 2010-2011, was carried out in an orchard of navel orange. Identification of the collected samples indicated that the most abundant enemies were the ectoparasitoid Aphytis hispanicus (Mercet), the endoparasitoid Prospaltella inquirenda (Silvestri) and two predatory mites Cheletogenes ornatus (Canestrini&Fanzago) and Amblyseius swirskii (Athias-Henriot). Aphytis hispanicus preferred to parasitize on males more than females and nymphs, whereas P. inquirenda preferred to attack females more than males and nymphs. The activity of parasitoids was not observed during the two main periods, the first from July to August, and the second from January to March. On the other hand, the predatory mites, C. ornatus and A. swirskii, prefer nutrition to females more than males and nymphs. The percentage of their population was high during the winter-spring and autumn host generations.

Compatibility and combined efficacy of entomopathogenic fungi and neonicotinoid insecticides against Myzus persicae (Sulzer): An ecofriendly approach 昆虫病原真菌与新烟碱类杀虫剂对桃蚜的相容性及联合药效研究

Efficacy of different entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) viz., Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae and Lecanicillium (=Verticillium) lecanii and neonicotinoid insecticides i.e., Imidacloprid, Thiamethoxam and Acetamiprid were evaluated alone and their 1:1 combination against Lipaphis erysimi prevalent in vegetable ecosystem. Among the entomopathogenic fungi, B. bassiana was found most promising registering lowest median lethal time (LT50) of 48.17, 48.92 and 48.87 h during the period of 2018, 2019 and 2020, respectively, followed by L. lecanii (49.57, 49.45 and 50.46 h), M. anisopliae (51.81, 51.67 and 51.63 h). Amongst the three neonicotinoids, Acetamiprid was found more efficacious than the Imidacloprid and Thiamethoxam. Blending of B. bassiana and Acetamiprid at half of their recommended dose took lowest (22.76, 23.48 and 23.06 h during 2018, 2019 and 2020, respectively) lethal time to kill the fifty per cent test population followed by L. lecanii + Acetamiprid (22.58, 22.68, 22.52 h) and M. anisopliae + Acetamiprid (22.61, 23.82, 23.60 h). Combinations of these entomopathogenic fungi and neonicotinoid insecticides had co-toxicity co-efficient values > 1 and lower LT50 values than each of their individual indicating the compatibility amongst them. Co-application of these EPF with sub-lethal concentration of neonicotinoids could not only be a green ecofriendly option against this sucking pest but also able to minimize the chemical insecticides load in the environment.
