The exotic sap beetle Phenolia (Lasiodites) picta (Macleay, 1825) is recorded for the first time in Greece. In August 2018, a nitidulid beetle was found and photographed near Mt. Pelion of Central Greece. It was later identified as P. picta, a recent alien species in Europe, previously recorded from Spain, France, and Turkey. Photographic material and information on the species’ distribution, biology, and potential economic and ecological implications are discussed.

Results of a field study showed Cerambyx dux (Fladermann) to be a major economic pest of domestic apple orchards in northwestern Syria. Higher levels of attack were detected on trees with larger trunk diameters. All trees with trunk diameters > 10 cm were infested (5 to 7 infestation holes per tree). For trees with trunk diameters of 5 to 10 cm, the level of infestation was 87.8% (2 to 4 infestation holes per tree). No attack by the longhorn beetle C. dux was detected on trees with a trunk diameter < 5 cm.

Although the history of entomological research in Greece spans to more than 2400 years, entomological collecting started about 200 years ago, while established entomological collections were registered about 20 years later. This paper presents the history of these collections giving information on their current status, provides information on the legislation regarding entomological collecting in Greece based on national and international laws and proposes the establishment of a National Network of Entomological Collections.

In this work, we present the first record of the species Vermileo vermileo from Greece. The larvae and pupae of Vermileo vermileo (Linnaeus, 1758) (Diptera, Vermileonidae) and Myrmeleon inconspicuus Rambur, 1842 (Neuroptera, Myrmeleontidae) species were collected from pits on a dry soil surface, in well-protected from rain places, from the Greek island of Thasos during the summer of 2017, in close proximity to Potos and Skala Potamias resort areas. The individuals were further kept under laboratory conditions for definite identification. According to available literature, the dipteran species V. vermileo is new for the Greek fauna.

Myrmecophilus bifasciatus Fischer von Waldheim, 1846 was originally described based on a single specimen originating from Ukraine. The original description of M. bifasciatuswas evaluated, and compared with specimens of M. acervorum(Panzer, [1799]). The description and the illustration given in the original descriptiondo not indicate any difference between nymphs of those two species. Thus, M.bifasciatus has been recognised as a junior synonym of M. acervorum.
