Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals processing are vital tools to tracking the cardiac abnormalities, thus it is widely used in assessing and diagnosing the health of the heart. One of the most common cardiac arrhythmias which has been considered by clinicians is ventricular ectopic beats (VEBs), it include premature ventricular contraction (PVC) arrhythmia and others cases. The ECG analysis needs to continuous surveillance of the heartbeat record by cardiologist. To avoid this tedious task for clinicians, several automated diagnostic techniques have been developed in the last years. Most of them depend on the wavelet transform and/or Autoregressive model (AR model) and its various extractive features. In this paper, we are proposing a simple method for heartbeats classification, more precisely, for VEBs arrhythmia detection. It is based on two high order statistical measures (kurtosis, skewness), they are used to discriminate between normal beats (N) and abnormal beats (VEBs), and without the need of mathematical modeling (example: signal transformation such as wavelet, AR model). Obtained results are satisfactory and it proves the potential and efficiency to detect VEB arrhythmia using two high order statistical measures (HOS). Moreover, this method is a simple, fast and easy to implement in several platform for real time practice.

Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) has attracted a huge interest following the development of microelectronics, miniaturized sensors and the advancement of wireless communication. However, medical data are very sensitive and any modification or eavesdropping of the physiological data may affect the diagnosis or the privacy of the patient, so, the security in WBAN remains a big challenge. Therefore, it is important to ensure a secure mutual authentication between the network entities to protect the user’s information from being corrupted and to ensure the privacy of the patient. In this paper, first, we review the security of Li et al.’s authentication scheme which is the most recently proposed protocol in this field. Then, we propose an improved version to overcome flaws found in Li et al.’s scheme. The security and performance analysis show that the improved protocol presents better security features.

This article proposes a standalone application for operating a photovoltaic module at the Maximum Power Point (MPP) under variable weather conditions and using a Fuzzy Logic Control (FLC) Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithm to increase the efficiency and lower the costs. The DC-DC converter provides a constant output voltage whatever the weather conditions and variable load thanks to the PI controller by local compensation of the disturbances. This system has been analyzed and implemented under the Matlab/Simulink environment. Simulation results under different weather conditions were observed. The MPPT algorithm based on FLC gives a precision between 95.5% and 99.5%. The parameters of the PI controller are calculated by the Ziegler-Nichols method. From the simulation results, we can see that the control by the PI controller effectively solves the instability of the system voltage, keeping the DC-DC converter voltage steady despite the varying weather and load conditions.

In this paper a theoretical and practical comparative study is proposed, between types 1 and 2 fuzzy systems for the monitoring of a gas turbine process. Firstly, the type 1 and type 2 fuzzy sets are presented followed by the description of the two fuzzy systems, to understand the differences between there inference systems, then a theoretical comparative study is presented, and finally the contribution of this work in the practical part by the application of the two fuzzy control approaches type-1 and type-2 in a fuel valve positioning of a gas turbine process, the obtained results shows the advantage of the used time in fuzzy control type-2, which is a very important factor in industrial applications.

This article deals with the case of a house, located in the south Mediterranean coastal region powered by a hybrid photovoltaic wind power plant. The objective is to satisfy as much as possible the energy demand of this house by renewable electric energy. For the case considered adding to the on-grid 3.2kWp PV system with 12kWh backup a 1kW wind turbine improves the self-sufficiency rate of the house which reaches 81.83%, reduces the energy withdrawn from the grid by 40 %.

This paper describes the use of the Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) technology to search for objects (products) by a set of Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV) evolving inside a 2D grid workspace cluttered with static obstacles (warehouse, etc For this aim, a number of RFID tags are deployed in order to be exploited by the robots carrying out their tasks. In addition, an interaction mechanism based on virtual pheromones to control the robots is described. Furthermore, a stigmergic search for objects of interest is presented; this indirect interaction mechanism is used to control the robots moving inside their workspace while spreading and reading pheromones. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach and the minimization of the overall number of visited nodes.

In recent years, many blackouts around the world have had an effect on the reliability of voltage sources in power grids. This is due to two events, firstly the liberalization of electricity markets with an increase in cross-border flows, secondly, the increasing penetration rate of renewable sources such as wind turbines and photovoltaic cells. An important tool for improving the analysis and protection of the electricity grid is the technology of synchrophasor. The subject consists of improving the performance of synchrophasor for monitoring large electricity networks. In addition, it deals with the characteristics of a new phasor estimation algorithm. This paper presents a new phasor estimation method using the modified Cooley-Tukey Fast Fourier Transform (CTFFT) algorithm based on Generalized Discrete Fourier Transform (GDFT). To validate the proposed method, the obtained simulation results are compared with the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) estimation algorithm.

Prognostic and Health Management of multi-components systems is a challenging task, where different types of dependencies may exist. To tackle the complexity of such system, many distributed approaches are proposed. They deal with structural and functional dependencies and suppose that components are independent, which is not the case in reality. The transition of one component to more degraded states may affect other dependent components. In this paper we address the problem of prognosing components under stochastic dependence, we propose a prognostic based agent function in which a set of agents interact and coordinate to estimate the component remaining useful life with degradation interactions in a distributed manner. The simulation of an example taken from the literature is done on jade frame work, the results indicate that the precision of the component RUL is enhanced.

The absence of a deterministic algorithm able to solve, in an optimal way and in a reasonable calculation time, combinatorial optimization problems, is the reason to move towards approximate algorithms of research called metaheuristics. This paper discusses the application of DTC on PM synchronous motor in closed loop and presents a comparative study between classical and meta-heuristic algorithms to tune the Proportional Integrator rotor speed gain, in order to resolve problems associated with conventional Proportional Integrator speed controller which is often characterized by an overshoot during start up. Complete simulation model for direct torque control of PMSMincorporating the proposed speed controller is developed in Matlab/Simulink software.
