Abstract The article deals with modelling of coolant flow within the spent fuel storage pool of a VVER 440 reactor. The spent fuel storage pool is modelled in a state of standard reactor operation. The coolant heating from the remaining thermal power of stored spent fuel assemblies was also modelled.

Abstract Friction stir processing (FSP) is solid state novel technique developed to refine microstructure and to improve the mechanical properties and be used to fabricate the aluminium alloy matrix composites. An attempt is made to fabricate AA6061/TiB2 aluminium alloy composite (AMCs) and the influence of process parameters like rotational speed, transverse feed, axial load and percentage reinforcement on microstructure and mechanical properties were studied. The microstructural observations are carried out and revealed that the reinforcement particles (TiB2) were uniformly dispersed in the nugget zone. The Tensile strength and Hardness of composites were evaluated. It was observed that tensile strength, and hardness were increased with increased the rotational speed and percentage reinforcement of particles. The process parameters were optimized using Taguchi analysis (Single Variable) and Grey analysis (Multi Variable). The most influential parameter was rotational speed in single variable method and multi variable optimization method. The ANOVA also done to know the percentage contribution of each parameter.

Abstract In this contribution, the analysis of ice-shedding from Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced (ACSR) power lines is presented. The impact of the icing position on the overhead power lines, the resulting jump height, and impact on attachment tension points after ice-shedding is examined. In the numerical simulations the effective material properties of the ACSR conductor is calculated using the homogenisation method. Numerical analysis of one power line and double-bundle power lines with icing over the whole range or only on certain sections of single and double-bundle power lines are performed

Abstract The paper deals with CFD modelling and simulation of coolant flow within the nuclear reactor VVER 440 fuel assembly. The influence of coolant flow in bypass on the temperature distribution at the outlet of the fuel assembly and pressure drop was investigated. Only steady-state analyses were performed. Boundary conditions are based on operating conditions. ANSYS CFX is chosen as the main CFD software tool, where all analyses are performed.

Abstract The paper is focused on CFD analyses of the coolant flow in the nuclear reactor VVER 440. The goal of the analyses is to investigate the influence of the orifice diameter on the mass flow through individual fuel assemblies in the reactor core. The diameter of orifice can be changed during the operation of a nuclear power plant. Considered boundary conditions in the investigated region of the coolant are based on nominal coolant flow conditions in the nuclear reactor VVER 440.

Abstract The aim of this work is to find out the components of stress tensor in plane specimens. For this purpose the photoelasticity methodology is used. In order to make this technique more comfortable for use, there was developed an algorithm in MATLAB program. The results are compared with numerical solution. The main advantages of the developed algorithm are the speed and the capabilities to extend to analyze the plastic deformation and strain conditions in the material during forming processes.

Abstract The contribution reviews current technologies for the measurement of performance in athletes during stationary exercise and validates the technology utilizing accelerometry. The behaviours of force during the bench press exercise on a stable and unstable base are reviewed and the results are presented. It was found that, training on an unstable base can be exploited by athletes to maximize their performance.

Abstract In this paper, the form of modifications of the existing sequential code written in C or C++ programming language for the calculation of various kind of structures using the explicit form of the Finite Element Method (Dynamic Relaxation Method, Explicit Dynamics) in the NEXX system is introduced. The NEXX system is the core of engineering software NEXIS, Scia Engineer, RFEM and RENEX. It has the possibilities of multithreaded running, which can now be supported at the level of native C++ programming language using standard libraries. Thanks to the high degree of abstraction that a contemporary C++ programming language provides, a respective library created in this way can be very generalized for other purposes of usage of parallelism in computational mechanics.

Abstract Large capacity tanks storing various liquids are important components in distribution and transmission systems. During operation tanks can be subjected to different types of loading. Therefore, maximum attention must be paid to the tank design to capture all possible causes and forms of failures. The article deals with the procedure for seismic resistance of liquid storage tanks which are in accordance with the principles of Eurocode 8 standard. The seismic analysis is performed on flexible (steel) circular vertical ground-supported model of tank containing liquid (water). The main aim is to determine basic seismic characteristics, distributions of hydrodynamic pressure, dynamic properties and response of investigated tank-liquid system subjected to earthquake excitation (El Centro). Seismic analysis and results comparison are carried out on mechanical spring-mass model (Eurocode 8) and finite element model (ANSYS).
