Abstract This paper discusses the development of a numerical model and its comparison with the analytical model to predict the wire deflection in WEDG. The movement of wire between upper and lower guides creates vibration during the machining process which can create micro deflection of the wire. The Finite Element Analysis model [FEA] for the wire deflection is analyzed and compared with the analytical model. The deflection of the wire due to the input current may affect the machining of micro parts, which will be used for further research in micro machining and also will help us to choose the parameters such as current, spark gap, wire feed, and the speed of the workpiece during micro machining with WEDG. The FEA results for various forces were compared with the analytical results and found that the developed numerical model results are in good agreement.

Abstract NOx emission is one of the major sources for health issues, acid rain and global warming. Diesel engine vehicles are the major sources for NOx emissions. Hence there is a need to reduce the emissions from the engines by identifying suitable techniques or by means of alternate fuels. The present investigation deals with the effect of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) on 4S, single cylinder, DI diesel engine using plastic oil/Diesel blends P10 (10% plastic oil & 90% diesel in volume), P20 and P30 at various EGR rates. Plastic oil blends were able to operate in diesel engines without any modifications and the results showed that P20 blend had the least NOx emission quantity.

Abstract Description of stress singularity in the vicinity of a free surface is presented. Its presence causes the retardation of the fatigue crack growth in that region and fatigue crack is being curved. Numerical model is used to study dependence of the stress singularity exponent on Poisson’s ratio. Estimated values are compared to those already published. Experimentally measured angles of fatigue crack on SENB specimens confirm the relation between Poisson’s ratio and the angle between crack front and free surface.

Abstract In order to obtain correct experimental results, fatigue strength tests carried out on the basis of a measurement setup using dynamic excitation generated by inertial force require test completion criterion to be specified. The paper presents the method applied to identify damage on the basis of an analysis of changes in registered acceleration amplitudes based on experimental studies, and an analysis of image of obtained fatigue fractures.

Abstract This article is devoted to the comparison of the influence of the piezoelectric matrix properties on the magnitude of the resulting charge when a thin piezoelectric membrane of circular cross section, made from aluminium gallium nitride (Al-GaN), is loaded. The size of change of the electric charge was determined by the numerical analysis and the by the change of the properties of the piezoelectric matrix. The matrix constants were obtained from various sources introduced in world databases.

Abstract In this paper is represented Dynamical Modelling of robots which is commonly first important step of Modelling, Analysis and Control of robotic systems. This paper is focused on using Denavit-Hartenberg (DH) convention for kinematics and Newton-Euler Formulations for dynamic modelling of 5 DoF - Degree of Freedom of 3D robot. The process of deriving of dynamical model is done using Software Maple. Derived Dynamical Model of 5 DoF robot is converted for Matlab use for future analysis, control and simulations.

Abstract The paper addresses the problem to vehicle speed calculation at road accidents. To determine the speed are used the PC Crash software and Virtual Crash. With both methods are analysed concrete cases of road accidents. Calculation methods and comparing results are present for analyse. These methods consider several factors such are: the front part of the vehicle, the technical feature of the vehicle, car angle, remote relocation after the crash, road conditions etc. Expected results with PC Crash software and Virtual Crash are shown in tabular graphics and compared in mathematical methods.

Abstract Presented work describes the use of algorithm for the computation of thermo-elastic properties of randomly reinforced composite which is based on histogram from image analysis done on ITAM, CAS. Three polished samples from “Bearing” part were analyzed. Results are used for verification of the algorithm functionality and primarily for computation of thermo-elastic properties which were compared with each other and used in modified FE analysis.

Abstract Nowadays, the operating nuclear reactors are able to utilise only 1 % of mined out uranium. An effective exploitation of uranium, even 60 %, is possible to achieve in so-called fast reactors. These reactors commercial operation is expected after the year 2035. Several design configurations of these reactors exist. Fast reactors rank among the so-called Generation IV reactors. Helium-cooled reactor, as a gas-cooled fast reactor, is one of them. Exchangers used to a heat transfer from a reactor active zone (i.e. heat exchangers) are an important part of fast reactors. This paper deals with the design calculation of U-tube heat exchanger (precisely 1-2 shell and tube heat exchanger with U-tubes): water – helium.

Abstract Motor vehicle end-users approaches to tyre safety issues in automobiles translate to a number of tyre failure risk factors. This study basically assessed tread wear pattern of tyres in passenger cars used on Nigeria roads. The result obtained showed that 75.4% of the assessed tyres showed uneven wear pattern resulting from incorrect tyre-road contact effects. This observed high proportion of uneven tyre tread wear pattern implies high rate of inconsequential regard for tyre safety.
