Juices made from fresh fruits that were improperly prepared are one of the main causes of food borne illnesses. In this study, the microbial qualities of some freshly prepared fruit juices were assessed. A total of 200 fresh fruit juice samples of mango, pineapple, orange, pomegranates and sugarcane were collected. The pour plate method was used to determine the total viable count of the sample. The pathogenic bacteria investigated were Bacillus E. coli, S. aureus, Lactobacillus, Acetobactor, Salmonella and Shigella using appropriate growth media. Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus flavus, Penicillium sp., Fusarium, Colleotrichum and Alternaria are the predominant moulds found in fruit juices. Yeast isolates such as Saccharomyces, Candida and Rhodotorula were also observed in freshly prepared fruit juices. It was found that sugarcane and orange juices were highly contaminated with microbes. Fungal contamination was dominant over bacterial contamination. It has been determined that the microbial load in fresh fruit juices is significantly greater than the normal permissible limits, suggesting that it may play an important role in food spoilage and food-borne illnesses. There is a need for some regulations that can improve the quality of fruit juices because some of the microorganisms found in these juice samples can cause disease in human and also produce mycotoxins which cause cancer.

Bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum is one of the major biotic stress that affects tomato production and reduce the fruit yield and quality. Grafting was done using different public/ private sector determinate/ semi-determinate hybrids as scion onto the wilt resistant brinjal variety “Haritha” as rootstock. The investigation was carried out as two experiments, production of grafts and evaluation in a bacterial wilt infested field. The minimum number of days taken for graft union was observed in Unito and Swaraksha (3.67 days). Grafts of Thenito, Arka Rakshak and Vijay showed maximum grafting success rate (96.71 %) and most of the grafts showed cent per cent field establishment. The highest yield per plant was recorded in the grafts of NS-526 (801.15 g), followed by that of Sivam (770.42 g), Arka Rakshak (748.81 g) and Megha (730.61 g). Cent percent resistance to bacterial wilt disease was observed in all the grafted treatments, while non-grafted control Rasto showed cent per cent wilt incidence.

An experiment was conducted at “Center of Excellence on Protected Cultivation, College of Agriculture, IGKV, Raipur (CG)” to find out the possible effect of foliar application of plant growth regulators with different concentration levels on yield of broccoli. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. It was consisted of ten treatments including T0: Control (without spray of PGRs), T1: GA3 @ 40 ppm, T2: GA3 @ 60 ppm, T3: GA3 @ 80 ppm, T4: NAA @ 60 ppm, T5: NAA @ 120 ppm, T6: NAA @ 180 ppm, T7: GA3 @ 40 ppm + NAA @ 60 ppm, T8: GA3 @ 60 ppm + NAA @ 120 ppm and T9: GA3 @ 80 ppm + NAA @ 180 ppm”. Two foliar applications were performed at 20 days after transplanting and 40 days after transplanting. The important parameters encompassed in the study were gurd diameter (cm), primary curd weight (g), secondary curd weight (g), curd yield per plant, curd yield per plot and curd yield per hectare. Data was recorded three times during investigation that is 30 DAT, 60 DAT and at the time of harvest. Although all treatments showed a positive effect on yield among all the treatments, T9 was showed better performance which may be due to the elongation of cells and cell division, increased dry matter accumulation in plants. Therefore, foliar application of GA3 80 ppm + NAA 180 was optimum among all treatments for getting higher yield in broccoli crop.
