Advanced metering infrastructure's measurement of working, reflected, and detrimental active power in microgrids 先进计量基础设施对微电网工作功率、反射功率和有害有功功率的测量

With the increasing popularity of renewable energy sources and harmonic generating loads, issues with power quality can be addressed with the help of the advanced metering infra- structure (AMI). Power quality is a major issue with microgrids because they tend to have low short circuit power with higher levels of harmonic distortion and asymmetry than major power grids. Energy delivered to the customer by distorted and asymmetrical voltages and currents can be composed of a useful component and a component that can be harmful to customers and/or the utility. Unfortunately, traditional analog based energy meters are incapable of distinguishing these components and billing for them appropriately. Using a new concept of working, detrimental, and reflected active power, via the advanced metering infrastructure, sources of degradation can be pinpointed so entities responsible for harmonic distortion and asymmetry can be made aware of the issue. A model of a microgrid bus will demonstrate the con- sequences of distortion and asymmetry. Enforcing penalties can result in better voltage and current profiles thus increasing the overall efficiency of the microgrid for a minimal cost of software updates to AMI meters.

Reinforcement learning aided smart-home decision-making in an interactive smart grid 交互式智能电网中强化学习辅助智能家居决策

In this paper, a complete hierarchical architecture is presented for the Utility-customer interaction, which tightly connect several important research topics, such as customer load prediction, renewable generation integration, power-load balancing and demand response. The complete interaction cycle consists of two stages: (1) Initial interaction (long-term planning) and (2) Real-time interaction (short-term planning). A hidden mode Markov decision process (HM-MDP) model is developed for customer real-time decision making, which outperforms the conventional Markov decision process (MDP) model in handling the non-stationary environment. To obtain a low-complexity, real-time algorithm, that allows to adaptively incorporate new observations as the environment changes, we resort to Q-learning based approximate dynamic programming (ADP). Without requiring specific starting and ending points of the scheduling period, the Q-learning algorithm offers more flexibility in practice. Performance analysis of both exact and approximate algorithms are presented with simulation results, in comparison with other decision making strategies.

SNR estimation and jamming detection techniques using wavelets 小波信噪比估计和干扰检测技术

An SNR estimation approach and a jamming detector based on wavelet transform theory are presented. The SNR estimator is an in-service, non-data-aided estimator that operates on M-PSK and QAM modulated signals transmitted over baseband CWGN channels. The signal and noise power are separated through a non-linear wavelet technique known as denoising. Two wavelet-based estimators are presented. The first method uses hard-thresholding which extracts the amplitude trend over one or several symbol periods, depending on whether the modulation is constant or multi-level envelope. The second method uses adaptive soft-thresholding and applies a self-similarity criterion between the signal and wavelet. A SNR Moments estimator was also developed as a reference for evaluation purposes. A jamming detector based on discontinuity recognition using wavelets is presented. The detector is implemented for constant-envelope modulation schemes, leaving the multi-level case for future research.

Simulation and experimental performance analysis of micro-grid based distributed energy resources 基于微电网的分布式能源仿真与实验性能分析

Micro-grids are becoming very popular due to the plug-and-play nature of their integration. But the high penetration of distributed generators may also create potential instability as it is unable to regulate the system. This paper compares the dynamic performance of a micro-grid when the system load demand is suddenly changed. Multiple distributed sources are used to create a flexible simulation scenario. The simulation is carried out using DIgSILENT software and the results indicate that the micro-grid may collapse when it works in islanding mode. It is found that the installation of storage device can help solve this problem, but both generation and load changes should be considered when determining its capacity. The DG penetration level also shows the impact on the system transient as it can potentially change the level of disturbance. The results of the simulation are validated using an experimental micro-grid setup, having a mix of wind, solar generation and battery storage.

PV ramp limiting controls with adaptive smoothing filter through a battery energy storage system 光伏坡道限制控制与自适应平滑滤波器通过电池储能系统

Photovoltaic (PV) variability can adversely affect system frequency and voltage stability in a high PV penetration location. High cloud cover in a short time scale can cause excessive ramp rates for large PV array installations. Smoothing is desired to limit the impact of cloud shading on the distribution circuit. Existing algorithms typically are simple moving averages that introduce time lag. The goal of this paper is to introduce a control method to smooth PV power ramp rates with a focus on reducing battery size (cost) and energy throughput (life) requirements. Simulated data from a high PV penetration multi-megawatt (MW) solar array site with large ramp rates is analyzed. Simulations verify that the control schemes work for a reduced size battery system.

High impedance fault detection using orthogonal transforms 基于正交变换的高阻抗故障检测

High impedance fault (HIF) detection is very important to utility companies in terms of safety (a threat on human lives), specifically, in power systems and power delivery. In this paper, two groups of fault events from official websites of DOE/EPRI National Database Repository of Power System Events are studied, and a heuristic approach specified for these particular groups of events is applied for developing a reliable detecting method. We investigate two HIF detection methods by applying sliding orthogonal transforms such as fast Fourier transforms (FFTs) and Walsh Hadamard Transforms (WHTs) to its harmonic-current content. The criteria to declare the existence of fault currents are based on the threshold and shape of the magnitude and phase responses of orthogonal transformed results. Simulation shows that both sliding FFT and WHT are effective techniques for HIF detection in studied cases.

With human civilization moving to cities and cities having housing societies with hundreds of residents, a common problem arises and that is to distribute the shared amenities and resource's usage bill among the residents of a housing society. Since the usage pattern of each residents is different (due to lifestyles and needs), so charging an average amount is not justified. In case where the usage of the resources is subscription based, all the subscribers of the amenity / resource should pay according to their usage. This paper discusses different methods to accurately calculate the bills for the residents (resource subscribers) for shared amenities and resources in a housing society. This paper also briefly discusses the importance of wearable devices in facilitating the authorization of the residents (resource subscribers) and collecting the resource usage information.

Smart grid and customer transactions: The unrealized benefits of conformance 智能电网和客户事务:一致性的未实现的好处

Smart Grid investments and research promise significant benefits to both customers and the grid. One major benefit is data and communications that enable customer-side resources to participate in electricity programs - i.e., transact with the electric grid. The U.S. Smart Grid activities and investments, which account for nearly three billion dollars in publicly documented expenses, build on interoperability standards activity. Standards interoperability for grid transactions can be viewed from two key interfaces - between (1) Smart Grid domain interfaces, and (2) customer-side resources and the electric grid. Conformance testing and certification is key to ensuring that standards are interoperable and secure. This paper describes the conformance development and certification process for a key communications standard - Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR) - as an interface between customers' systems and electricity service providers, to enable demand response and price transactions. Through this process, we describe the benefits of conformance to support low-cost automated DR (AutoDR) and customer-side transactions within the distribution electric grid. The paper evaluates examples of applications and further developments for emerging transactive energy concepts that can be used to scale existing systems and to leverage the investments and support compliance to any building codes and appliance standards. The conformance process can be the key to realizing interoperability benefits and market acceptance. Conformance is also a key to enabling native DR and price transaction capabilities in customers' systems; a feature that can be replicated for diffusion and can lower DR technology costs by a significant margin.

Optimization of energy production of a CHP plant with heat storage 蓄热式热电联产电厂的产能优化

Combined heat and power (CHP) production is a very efficient technique to produce power and heat in an integrated process. In CHP plants, generation of heat and power follows a joint characteristic, which means that production planning of both commodities must be done in coordination. The hourly produced power can be sold to the grid at market price, but heat must be produced to meet the local demand of district heating or heat for specific industrial processes. Typically, the most profitable operation of a CHP system can be planned by using an optimization model. The high efficiency and profitability of CHP plants can be further improved by utilization of energy storage units. Heat storages make it possible to relax the constraint to produce heat each hour to exactly match the local demand. This allows satisfying the variable heat demand more cheaply by storing heat during low demand and discharging heat when demand is high. By relaxing the connection between heat and power production, heat storages also allow producing more electricity to the power market when the spot price is high and reducing the power generation when spot price is low. The aim of this study is to develop a model for optimizing the operation of a CHP plant together with a heat storage. The model is a linear programming (LP) model consisting of hourly models connected together with dynamic storage constraints. The objective is to minimize the production (fuel) costs subtracted by revenue from selling power to the market. The model is demonstrated using modified reallife data of a Finnish city. The results are useful for planning efficient operation of the plant. The model can also be adapted for determining the optimal size of the storage.

Improving reliability of Aircraft Electric Power Distribution system 提高飞机配电系统的可靠性

In an Aircraft Electric Power Distribution (EPD) system, the power is distributed from generators to loads, sensors and actuators through AC and DC distribution buses using control switches. Over the years, with the increase demands of loads and its power requirement, EPD system must be optimized in order to operate the system efficiently. In this paper, we propose a synthesis tool based on a need-based design method to obtain optimal topology of EPD system considering maximum reliability, continuous connectivity, power requirement, minimal cost, and node failure. We treat the EPD system as an optimization problem by using Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) to achieve maximum reliability while satisfying a set of constraints.
