Current Trends in Social Policy in Spain
Q3 Social Sciences Pub Date : 2021-01-01 DOI: 10.37656/s20768400-2021-4-08
E. Astakhova, N. Rostov
Against the background of a new coronavirus pandemic, which once again revealed the shortcomings and inefficiency of the existing globalist development model, the socially oriented countries that heavily rely on an advanced public sector in planning their own economic growth proved themselves to be effective. Some attempts to lead the economy out of a permanent structural crisis by giving impetus to the social sphere have also begun to emerge in the West. The case of Spain is the most emblematic, because there the left-wing coalition government is trying to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in a harsh foreign and domestic political climate by widely introducing basic social protection instruments. In this sense, it is of particular interest to analyze the prospects for a possible further evolution of social policy. © 2021. All Rights Reserved.

Technological Renewal and Sustainable Development of Latin America
Q3 Social Sciences Pub Date : 2021-01-01 DOI: 10.37656/s20768400-2021-2-01
Liudmila Símonova
The article is devoted to the analysis of the causes of Latin America's technological backwardness and the potential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set in Agenda 2030. The author comes to the conclusion that deindustrialization in the Latin American region is not only the outcome of the negative processes taking place in the world, but it is also the result of the internal structural problems that have not been resolved. The dependence of the Latin American countries on income from the cheap manpower and the exploitation of natural resources is a bar to sustained employment and wage growth, stints the opportunities for technological progress and the development of production value chains. The article emphasizes that if the Latin American countries fail to dwindle the technological backwardness, they will not be able to meet the SDG 9. Improving the effectiveness of government support and carrying out broad fiscal policies in order to shove forth the technological renewal and to create a competitive production structure are two decisive factors on the way towards a more inclusive, egalitarian and sustainable society. © 2021.

US security cooperation with the Latin America countries before and after J. Biden administration came to power
Q3 Social Sciences Pub Date : 2021-01-01 DOI: 10.37656/s20768400-2021-4-03
O. Krivolapov, N. Stepanova
This article is a continuation of a study begun in 2020 and devoted to the strategic and practical aspects of US military policy in Latin America at the present. The authors analyze the changes occurred in the US military policy towards Latin American countries under the influence of COVID-19 and after Joseph Biden has taken office. The current areas of cooperation between the United States and the region are considered, chiefly through the work of the US Southern Command. The authors highlight non-military security programs carried out by the State Department. They come round to thinking that there is an urgent need to redistribute resources for humanitarian missions due to their swelling importance for the vital interests of the United States in the region. At the same time, US military policy continues to be reduced to "combating drug trafficking, organized crime and illegal migration." Some of the last political steps taken by Washington in the region have aimed at stemming the Chinese and Russian sprawling influence. © 2021. All Rights Reserved.
