DESIGNING INQUIRY-BASED EXPERTISE SHARING MODEL TO ENHANCE GRADUATE EMPLOYABILITY IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS 设计基于调查的专业知识共享模式提高高校毕业生就业能力

This study aims to design Inquiry-Based Expertise Sharing (IBES) as a comprehensive active learning model in higher education, and then to examine its strength and challenges in enhancing graduate employability. This research was conducted by combination of qualitative and quantitative methods. There were two phases namely developing a pilot project and conducting experimental testing. In first phase, an initial comprehensive learning framework was developed by combining and integrating Jigsaw, Inquiry-Based Learning, and Knowledge Sharing as a framework named Inquiry-Based Expertise Sharing (IBES). In the second phase, the revised IBES was experimentally tested in the same course but different students using quasi-experiment method and the matching only pre-test post-test control group design. To examine the strength of IBES, main data was collected namely students’ achievement and perception. Students’ achievement was measured by the multiple choices questions sheet, while students’ perception data was gathered by the questionnaire sheet. The result shows that students’ achievement mean score in experimental group was 75.7 which is higher than control group that its mean score was 58.73. Students’ perception result showed that more than 70% students have positive responses toward the IBES in all aspects including curiosity, inquiry skills, teamwork attitudes, collaborations, interdependence, and communication skills. The challenges of IBES are the diversity of students’ background, the lack of curiosity, the lack of prior knowledge, the lack of confidence, and the lack of communication skills. Some recommendations for the effectiveness of implementation of IBES will be given.

FACTORS AFFECTING UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ LIFELONG LEARNING IN INDONESIA 影响印尼大学生终身学习的因素

The present study investigates the issue of self-directed learning, students’ perception towards ICT and social networking as the key factors that affect lifelong learning by focusing on the Indonesian settings. The study follows a correlational research design to investigate and measure the degree of relationship among self-directed learning, and students’ perception towards ICT. The research was conducted in Jogjakarta and Riau Province, Indonesia. A total of 216 postgraduate students were chosen for this study by using the simple random sampling method. Data were collected using the instrument developed by Williamson and then analysed using AMOS 23 software. Hypothesis testing was done by using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). SEM test indicate partial mediation effects of social networking for self-directed learning on lifelong learning was found and full mediation effects of social networking for self-directed learning on lifelong learning. The results imply that lectures should support postgraduate students in order to sharpen their self-directed learning, positive perception towards ICT and social networking in lifelong learning by giving suitable learning methods and proposing a sufficient teaching and learning atmosphere. © 2019, University of Malaya. AN INVESTIGATION INTO ISSUES IMPEDING HIGHER EDUCATION EFFECTIVENESS IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES 影响公立大学高等教育实效性的问题调查

The effectiveness of public universities in Nigeria has continued to generate discussion and is a matter of urgent attention in achieving the mission and vision of the higher education system. This study was carried out to investigate the issues obstructing the effectiveness of public universities in Nigeria. The conceptual framework was adapted from the European Foundation for Quality Management Excellence model (EFQM). This study adopted a generic qualitative design to collect data through semi-structured interviews from eight participants, including the deputy vice-chancellor, deans, head of departments, and lecturers that were purposively selected. Data collected were analysed using thematic analysis with Nvivo (version 10). The findings of the study revealed that leadership, academic and administrative issues, contextual issues and funding are the major factors affecting the effectiveness of public universities in Nigeria. Therefore, for a university in Nigeria to be viewed as a hub of developing nations that strive to meet the expectation of the society, the identified hindrances must be thoroughly interrogated and resolved.

PERCEPTUAL GAP AMONG CORPORATE WORLD, ACADEMICS AND STUDENTS: PERSONAL QUALITIES AND EMPLOYABILITY COMPETENCIES OF STUDENTS 企业界、学术界和学生的感知差距:学生的个人素质和就业能力

Personal qualities and employability competencies influence how an individual interacts with others. Employers value employability skills because they are linked to how employees get along with co-workers and customers, job performance, and career success of the employee. Hence personal qualities and employability competencies are considered as one of the essential components for an individual’s career development. This study aims to understand the perceptual gap among the corporate world, business school academics and business school students. This study is quantitative in nature and primary data was collected through survey method. The primary data was collected from 377 Master of Business Administration (MBA) students, 276 Business School faculties and 98 managers representing 100 different companies in Bangalore, India. Three different questionnaires were prepared for three groups. All three sets of respondents were asked to rate their perception towards the requirement of personal qualities and skill/competencies required at the workplace in an entrylevel job. The study highlights that there is a significant difference in the perception of students, business school faculty and managers towards listed personal qualities and competencies. These perceptual differences result in different types of costs to the company in terms of time, money and energy. The results will help the business schools to develop an innovative business curriculum that can fill the current industry needs.

The current study aims to analyse the direct and significant effect of academic leadership skills on students’ skill-based learning outcomes in selected higher education institution in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). It also aims to analyse the mediating effect of organisational culture on academic leadership skills and students’ skill-based learning outcomes. The study was conducted with a quantitative research methodology by distributing questionnaires contained 97 items to faculty members in Jazan University, Saudi higher education institution. A total of 350 responses were further analysed using the SPSS (V23) and PLSSEM. Results indicated that academic leadership skills have no direct and significant effect on students’ skill-based learning outcomes in selected higher education institution in the KSA. Results also indicated that organisational culture has a significant mediation effect on academic leadership skills and student’s skill-based learning outcomes in selected higher education institution in the KSA. The present study has the potential to reflect positively on higher education, academic leadership, as well as students in higher education.

Improving teachers’ job satisfaction is a challenge since the needs and the character of teachers who live in small districts are different to those living in big cities. The purpose of this study is to obtain information about the influence of interpersonal communication, work environment, and locus of control on job satisfaction. This research involved public elementary teachers in Tigapanah District, North Sumatera, Indonesia. The total sample of 136 teachers were selected using the Kreijcie and Morgan Table, while proportional random sampling was used to determine the selected data. To test the hypothesis, the data was analysed by using path analysis after fulfilling the analysis requirements test, namely the Normality and Linearity test. The research findings show that teachers’ job satisfaction was directly influenced by interpersonal communication, work environment and locus of control. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that any change or variation that occurs in Job Satisfaction is influenced by interpersonal communication, work environment and locus of control. From the findings on the three variables, it turns out that the locus of control influences more in increasing job satisfaction, followed by work environment and interpersonal communication. Therefore, in managing job satisfaction of the teachers, interpersonal communication, work environment and locus of control must be included in the strategic planning of human resource development in Public Elementary School Teachers’ in Tigapanah District, while other variables need to be taken into account by future research on job satisfaction

STUDENTS PERCEIVED VALUE TOWARD UNIVERSITIES’ HIGH QUALITY PROGRAM IN VIETNAM 越南学生对高校高质量课程的价值感知

This study empirically examines the effects of students perceived value toward high quality program in universities. Structural equation modelling was used to test these effects through using a sample of 277 students from three public universities in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The results showed that among the three determinants, only perceived service quality affects emotional value. Although perceived price was found not to have an impact on emotional value, it has a significant and positive effect on perceived service quality. Moreover, the study also reveals that perceived service quality has a significant and negative influence on perceived performance risk. These findings imply that managers of the high-quality program at universities should pay attention to improving the perception of service quality in order to enhance emotional value.
本研究实证检验了大学生感知价值对高校高质量课程的影响。结构方程模型通过使用来自越南胡志明市三所公立大学的277名学生样本来测试这些影响。结果表明,在三个决定因素中,只有感知服务质量影响情感价值。虽然我们发现感知价格对情感价值没有影响,但它对感知服务质量有显著的正向影响。此外,研究还发现,感知服务质量对感知绩效风险具有显著的负向影响。研究结果提示,高校高质量项目管理者应注重提高服务质量感知,以提升情感价值。

COMMITMENT, WORK ENGAGEMENT, AND RESEARCH PERFORMANCE OF LECTURERS, IN INDONESIA PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES 印尼私立大学讲师的承诺、工作投入和研究表现

The purpose of the study was to identify the effect of commitment, work engagement on research performance of the lecturers in Private Universities. The research method used was an explanatory survey. Data processing was performed statistically using Structural Equation Modeling. The respondents of this study are lecturers of Private Universities in West Java and Banten Province, Indonesia. The total sample chosen at random was 388 lecturers. The results of the study show that the implementation of the Human Resources (HR) function to improve research performance of the lecturers is based on JDR (job demand resources). The good performance of research, community service and teaching are based on the work paradigm. The orientation of private universities HR function to optimize performance has not touched the commitment aspect as much as an effort to encourage work engagement and improve lecturer performance. Performance is influenced by work engagement based on commitment based on ethical awareness of the function of lecturers in higher education. Efforts to meet job demand and job resources are physical, psychologically, and ethically in the work function to improve the performance that is managed as a sustainable system.

Job satisfaction among school teachers is considered to be one of the crucial aspects in the arena of educational leadership and organizational behaviour. In addition, the question of if school associated attributes contribute to school settings has become a hot cake in the present context. Amidst this, the study aims to examine the job satisfaction of school teachers across their school related attributes. For achieving this purpose, a cross-sectional survey was employed embracing post-positivist paradigm among 345 school teachers from Dhading district, Nepal who were the respondents of this study. The data were collected through questionnaire, analysed with parametric test, and encompassed social exchange theory for discussing the findings of this study. From the study, it was revealed that job satisfaction of teachers is influenced by the school type, and service periods. In addition, the job nature and educational qualification was also found to be contributing to add pleasure in job considering pay and work environment respectively. Furthermore, the school related attributes were discovered to be assisted by social exchange relations and motivated the teachers towards job satisfaction. Finally, the study indicates that the teachers who are satisfied in their jobs demonstrate the high level of organizational citizenship behaviour, job performance, commitment, and retention in school. As a result, it ultimately benefits the school by increasing their work productivity and academic success.
