: The zine Tristesse (2017) offers a different perspective on the modes of engagement and mobilization usually associated with literary journals as it shows the political potential of “the extreme intimate”. Tristesse does not oppose a group or an ideology, does not make any demands, nor seeks some sort of social progress. On the contrary, Tristesse is a claim that refuses to be presented as such and thus can be viewed as opposing the intellectual tradition shaped by so many literary journals. Tristesse publishes essayistic voices that are “in sadness” (as we say in love) which mark out an avenue for thinking and existing differently.
