. Large females are usually associated with substantial provisioning of offspring. However, the finitude of resources generally results in a trade-off between investment in offspring size and number in many taxa. Such incidences are poorly investigated in iteroparous species, which produce multiple broods throughout their lifespan. Thus, we produced a model to predict how maternal traits (female size and mass) are associated with offspring traits (number and mass) in an iteroparous scorpion. To this end, we used a sample of 166 juveniles from 20 Tityus pusillus Pocock, 1893 females collected from a fragment in the Brazilian Atlantic rainforest. Our results showed that maternal traits (e.g. size and mass) were not correlated with provisioning, and no statistical correlation was found between total offspring mass and offspring size. Similar to congeneric species,

. Illustrated descriptions of eight taxa of species rank of Ampharete similar to Ampharete finmarchica , five based on type materials, including Ampharete britayevi sp.n., others based on topotypes. A key for their identification is provided. Based on morphological data, it is proposed to erected these species as Ampharete (superspecies finmarchica ). Of the 8 species in the superspecies, seven inhabit the Northern Pacific and one ( A. kerguelensis ) the Southern Hemisphere, therefore, it is likely that this group is of North Pacific origin, different species of which arose in different biomes.

: The present study aims to determine, for the first time, the annual breeding cycle and the biochemical changes in the gonads of the North African freshwater crab, Potamon algeriense (Bott, 1967). Monthly collections were carried out by hand, from October 2018 to September 2019 in Oued Zegzel, a mountain stream in the Northeast of Morocco. The gonad size reached high values in the dry season (June to September) showing the maximum breeding activity during these months. By June, the gonads of most of the individuals attained full maturity where the spawning began. Spawning terminated by the end of September then the gonads entered a quiescent period. Histological observations of the gonads revealed that the ripening of the gonads started during March and extended up to May. During the maturation of the gonads, protein, fat

: The 200th anniversary of the Department of Zoology of St. Petersburg State University and the 150th anniversary of its daughter Department of Invertebrate Zoology are decent reasons to consider the important historical phenomenon. The history of the Department is the story of development of Zoology, the story of revolutionary changes in society. But, at the same time, it is the story of the continuity of generations of zoologists. The article presents a brief historical review of two centuries, but also contains elements of analysis: the long and fruitful existence of the zoological department makes it possible to trace the main trends in its development. Many of its features are likely to be common to the logic of evolution of “biodiversity departments”, but of course, each department with a long history is unique. Here is a historical case study. I hope that reflection on historical events can help identify the trends and even the reasons of the Department’s sustainability throughout this considerable time interval.

: The lophophore is a tentaculated organ — a specificity of Lophophorata. Since molecular phylogeny has yielded contradictory data on the monophyly of lophophor-ates, results of comparative morphology are used here to shed light on the question about the homology of the lophophore in different groups of lophophorates. We compare the morphology of the lophophore and the organization of its coelomic, nervous, and muscular systems in three different phyla of lophophorates: phoronids, bryozoans, and brachiopods. The morphology of the lophophore and the structure of all lophophoral organ systems are examined in respect to the standard criteria of homology. The comparative analysis supports the homology of the lophophore and suggests the monophyly of the lophophorates. We present a hypothetical scenario of lophophore evolution based on our analyses. Accordingly, the ancestral lophophore of lophophorates had a horseshoe-shaped brachial axis and was innervated by supraenteric and subenteric nerve centers, which were connected by circumenteric connectives and a circumoral nerve. This ancestral lophophore then evolved in three different phyla by two pathways: (i) by complication and (ii) by simplification.

: Xiphidiocercariae is a non-taxonomic group of digenean larvae. These small cercariae are characterized by complex morphology, which complicates their accurate identification. Recently, we have devoted a series of papers to the least studied groups of xiphidiocercariae — Cercariae virgulae and Cercariae microcotylae . Here we present the morphological description and molecular phylogenetic analysis of the new microcotylous cercaria. We have identified morphological features that allow us to distinguish this larva from all previously described cercariae. This species lacks virgula organ and possesses three pairs of penetration glands and Y-shaped excretory bladder. Molecular phylogenetic analysis performed with 28S rDNA and cox 1 mtDNA sequences made it possible to confirm the taxonomic position of this cercaria within the family Prosthogonimidae, and to determine its species identity as

: Catecholamines (CA) are known to play an important role in the physiology of most invertebrates. Here we provide the results on catecholaminergic systems study of two annelid species: Pygospio elegans (Spionidae) and Platynereis dumerilii (Nereididae). The nervous system was studied with the histochemical method of monoamine condensation with glyoxylic acid in combination with confocal laser scanning microscopy. Both animals possess developed catecholaminergic systems with similar general organization. However, in P. dumerilii considerably fewer cells were detected. In both species, CA-positive cells were found in the brain, ventral nerve cord as well as in the stomatogastric system, body wall, palps, prostomium, and regions around the chaetae. According to the cell morphology and their location in the most agile parts of
