Članek obravnava usodo zbirke slik, ki jo je grof Ferdinand Marija III. Attems do leta 1945 hranil v svojem gradu v Slovenski Bistrici, ter na podlagi analize različnih arhivskih virov in ugotovljene konkordance med zapisi utemeljuje predlagane identifikacije posameznih slik, ki jih zdaj hranijo slovenske javne ustanove. Poleg provenience posamez- nih umetnin iz Attemsove zbirke je v prispevku predstavljen eden najpomembnejših elementov njihove zgodbe: kon- tekst povojne zaplembe, prenosov, skladiščenja v Federalnem zbirnem centru in nadaljnje distribucije po različnih slovenskih ustanovah.

The ceiling decoration of the Great Hall of Brežice Castle was executed for the Attems family by the painter Franz Carl Remp in 1702–1703. Its form had most probably been inspired by an engraving, reproducing the fresco by Pietro da Cortona in the hall of the Palazzo Barberini in Rome. During the 17th century, many engravings of various motifs and types were used as models for monumental paintings in Central Europe. However, it was above all graphic reproductions of famous ceiling paintings in different artistic centres in Italy which inspired the qualitative turn of Central European ceiling painting around 1700.

The churches of the Archdiocese of Gorizia in Carniola, mentioned in the visitation records of the first archbishop of Gorizia, Karl Michael von Attems (1752–1774), will be presented in an extensive article, which will be divided into three parts. The churches that stood in the archdeaconry of the Bistra Carthusian monastery, the archdeaconry of Upper Carniola, and the archdeaconry of the German Teutonic Order in Bela krajina will be presented in Part 1. The patrocinia or the titulature of the altars are presented at the beginning of the article based on liturgical hierarchy, followed by introductions of individual churches according to the outlined structure.
