The aims of this research are to describe the students‘ reading achievement and to find out the effectiveness of using story face in teaching reading narrative text. This research is quantitative using quasi-experimental design with purposive sampling technique. The population was tenth grade students and the sample was the students of X TKR 2 consist of 37 students as experimental group and X TKR 13 consist of 33 students as control group. The technique of collecting data are making instrument, expert judgment and conducting pre-test, treatment and post-test. The pre-test mean score in experimental class was 70.92 and control class was 70.55. Meanwhile, the post-test mean score in experimental class was 68.54 and control class was 67.76. It was obtained that z-value was 0.133 and the z-table was 1.96 for alpha (α) 5%. The z-value was lower than z-table (0.133<1.96) It means that Ha was rejected and Ho was accepted. Therefore, the researcher concludes that story face was ineffective in teaching reading narrative text at the tenth grade students of SMK TKMT Kebume in the academic year of 2019/2020.

Abstract. This research aims are to identify the uses of gerunds found in The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes and to describe their application in teaching reading. It belongs to qualitative research. The researchers used a collection of short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle entitled The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes as the data source. The researchers then identified the sentences containing gerund, classified the gerund found in the short story based on its use, counted the percentage of the gerunds, discussed the finding of the analysis, applied the result of finding in teaching reading, and drew conclusion and suggestion. In conclusion, there are 2 gerunds as subject (0.71%), 13 gerunds as direct object (4.59%), and 268 gerunds as object of preposition (94.70%) and they can be applied in teaching reading for the twelfth-grade students of Language Program of senior high school.

One of the fundamental problems in teaching is closely related to teaching strategy. This basic problem comes to almost all subjects in senior high school included English in which more to teaching reading than other language skill. This fundamental problem then leads the researchers to do research which goal is to find out whether reading aloud or small group discussion more effective in teaching reading for senior high school. By applying causal-comparative research, the researchers did research in SMAN 7 Purworejo. Employing Class XI MIPA 5 taught using reading aloud strategy and Class XI MIPA 6 taught using small group discussion, the researchers then give 25 questions of a multiple-choice test to evaluate the result of teaching reading. The result of this research shows that the mean score of XI MIPA 5 is 88.97 and the mean of XI MIPA 6 is 89.14 which means that both of the classes have similar competencies in reading. Then, from the computation of inferential analysis, it shows that the result of Zvalue (1.503) is lower than Ztable (1.96). From the result, it can be concluded that both of the strategies have equal power to be used in teaching reading.

This research attempts to analyze whether or not there is a positive and significant correlation between students’ habit in watching Western-movie and listening skill. The population of this research is the sixth semester students of English Language Education of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purworejo, with the total number of sample 31 students. This research uses quantitative correlation design. The instruments used are questionnaire and listening test. Based on the computation manually and using SPSS 25.0, the coefficient correlation score is 0.845, and after being compared with r table with degree of significance 5% (0.355), it can be inferred that is higher than () that is 0.845 > 0.355. Based on the interpretation table proposed by Sugiyono, that score belongs to the very high correlation.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought big changes in teaching and learning activities in the country. Learning activities have changed from face-toface to online teaching and learning. Studying online changes the learningexperience for many students. Rather than sitting in school and taking notes, students are taking advantage of online classes and other forms of online learning. Materials and Methods: Survey and interview. Interviews were conducted with the homeroom teacher. Survey of student scores in the semester before the Covid-19 pandemic and during the pandemic. Results: Based on the results obtained, on-line learning has little effect on learning achievement. Online learning has several advantages and disadvantages over learning face-toface. Online learning offers a potentially better alternative if it is adapted to the situation and conditions of the students.
