NotES oN xENoPhYtES dEtEctEd iN cataloNia, SPaiN.— These notes include six species, among them three grasses: Axonopus compressus, Dactyloctenium aegyptium and Megathyrsus maximus, the crucifer Lepidium densiflorum, a dwarf annual composite Soliva sessilis, and the climbing Aristolochia sempervirens (Aristolochiaceae), all present in or around Barcelona, Catalonia (northeastern Spain). All are recent additions to the increasing alien flora of the region. Some have been recorded previously from the Iberian Peninsula but are new to Catalonia; others appear to be new records for the peninsula.

A new species is described in the genus Limonium Mill.: L. rosselloi P. P. Ferrer, R. Rosello & E. Laguna, sp. nov. (Plumbaginaceae). It grows in the saline-gypsic soils of the Cabriel River in La Pesquera area (Cuenca, Castilla-La Mancha, central-eastern Spain). Diagnostic morphological characters are reported and compared to other species. An illustration is also included.

Vegetation and landscape around lake Montcortes (catalan pre-pyrenees) as a tool for palaeoecological studies of lake sediMents.— Lake Montcortes (42o 19′ N, 0o 59′ E; 1027 m elevation) is an excellent target for highresolution palaeoecological studies because its annually-laminated sediments extending back to the early-middle Holocene. The detailed knowledge of present vegetation patterns around the lake and the pollen they release to lake sediments is essential for a reliable interpretation of past vegetation dynamics. This study aims to identify and map the vegetation types currently growing around the lake. For this purpose, a quadrangular area of ca. 48 ha was defined. The floristic study resulted in a catalogue of 534 species. Vegetation analysis was based on 42 phytosociological inventories used to synthesise and map the relevant plant landscape units. As a result, we obtained 52 vegetation units as expressions of the CORINE habitats previously defined for Catalonia. Each of these habitats was described in floristic, physiognomic, phytogeographic, environmental and human-use terms. The next step will be the palynological study of the more representative species of the described vegetation types, as a means to optimise future palynological interpretations.

The examination of the allelic diversity of the locus S in ten almond cultivars from Majorca has shown the presence of the Sf allele in four of them, as well as the presence of five new alleles non identified so far. Although the Sf allele has been described as responsible for the expression of self-compatibility in almond, it has been recently shown that this allele has two different phenotypic expressions. As a consequence, this allele cannot be always considered an index for self-compatibility of the genotypes harbouring it. The study of the four Majorcan cultivars possessing this allele has confirmed their selfincompatibility, showing that this allele is in its phenotypically active form, as it has been also observed in a group of cultivars from southern Italy, a fact possibly suggesting a connexion between these two Mediterranean almond populations.

Fescues of the Intravaginal group of Festuca L. section Festuca in the lowland and montane areas of the northeastern Iberian Peninsula.— Morphologically similar fescues occur across the study area (Mediterranean area of the northeastern Iberian Peninsula) at low and middle elevations. With the exception of the high mountain or alpine species, these populations are reviewed here, with particular attention being paid to the Festuca inops (F. gracilior) group, as well as to some other species, in particular F. lemanii, which are not easily understood and can complicate identification, especially where the taxa occur sympatrically. The application of the binomen F. inops De Not. to some of the Iberian populations constituting the F. inops group is discussed. New records for F. tarraconensis, F. occitanica, F. michaelis and F. heteroidea amplify the distribution range of these little-known taxa within the Iberian Peninsula.

CONtRIButION tO kNOwLEdGE Of thE hERBARIum tRemOLS Of thE BOtANIC INStItutE Of BARCELONA.— The herbarium BC-Tremols was created during the second half of the 19th century by the Catalan chemist and botanist Frederic Tremols Borrell. Between 1930 and 1960, the technician Antoni Marcos carried out a thorough review. The current collection consists of approximately 9000 specimen sheets; is made up of 58 volumes reordered by Marcos, two volumes with the original structure, four boxes of Hieracium and 85 boxes with additional material. Up to now 22 volumes and four boxes of Hieracium have been computerized (3695 specimens); we made an inventory at genus level of all volumes, and we computerized the original catalogue of the herbarium and the existing taxonomical fiches. We have also developed a preliminary inventory of the contents of the extra boxes. The analysis of these 3695 herbarium specimens clearly shows that it mainly consists of samples obtained by exchange (67.1%) especially within the Societe Helvetique pour l’Echange des Plantes and the Societat Botanica Barcelonesa. Among the materials studied we found two specimens regarded as interesting from a taxonomical and/or nomenclatural point of view (isotypes of Silene holzmanii Heldr. ex Boiss. and of Arenaria minutiflora Loscos). Therefore, the main interest of the herbarium lies in the diversity of the geographical provenance of plants, which makes of this collection one of the first “pan-European herbaria” in Catalonia.
minutiflora Loscos)。因此,植物标本馆的主要兴趣在于植物地理来源的多样性,这使得该收藏成为加泰罗尼亚第一个“泛欧植物标本馆”之一。
