We note that there is a collapse of the self-similar waves recently reported, in a tapered graded-index waveguide. By adding a suitable homogeneous background in the expression for widths of the self-similar solutions which is achievable through the modulation of tapering profile, we could avert this situation, and propagate the self-similar waves quite a distance stably.

Propagation characteristics of a solid defect-core W-type photonic crystal fiber have been investigated by using finite element method. The proposed W-type photonic crystal fiber can perform as single-mode fiber with low dispersion and bend loss for large wavelength range and hence can be utilized for telecommunications as well as sensing.

We design and numerically characterize a surface-plasmon-resonance sensor using H shaped fiber. This sensor has been obtained having two U shaped grooves coated with silver followed by titanium-dioxide layer in telecommunication window.

We present the coupling characteristics of hybrid silicon plasmonic waveguide based directional coupler. The symmetric and antisymmetric supermodes are obtained at a wavelength of 1.55 μm with 75% efficient light at ultra short coupling length of 2.12 μm when the separation gap is 60nm.
