Extending the loggias is currently a very popular way to increase user comfort and the market value of apartments in precast panel houses. Construction companies offer several designs, enabling expansion ranging from 20 centimetres to 2.5 meters. The aim of our research is to examine the impact of this adaptation on the apartments' interior lighting conditions and to determine the limit width of the loggia, which does not prevent the fulfilment of the requirements for insolation and daylighting of residential buildings. The evaluated factors are, relating to the valid legislation in the Czech Republic, the sunlight duration on 1.3. and the daylighting factor D. In this article, we examine the possibilities of loggia extension on a specific example of an apartment house in Prague; build in the standard system VVU ETA. This building is located in practically ideal conditions, with a southern orientation of the loggias and without any shading obstacles. This enables us to find the ultimate limit of the loggia width, which will then be modified according to specific shading conditions.

Multichannel PWM generator for control of LED brightness in automotive applications is presented in the article. In some automotive applications there is a need of multichannel control of many LED entities. A multichannel PWM generator is necessary for independent control of each lighting channel. Unlike typical hardware solutions, the presented generator is based on the software of the main microcontroller. The proposed system was examined and selected laboratory results are presented. The solution is cheap and easy to implement so seems to be attractive. Some other hardware methods of the multichannel PWM generation are discussed in the paper. Proposed solution is described and compared to conventional hardware solutions.

Due to the development of display technology higher and higher resolution devices are getting on the market. To characterize those high resolution display devices special measurement techniques are needed partly because most of them are handheld devices. Based on the recommendation of the International Committee for Display Metrology we have characterized some modern mobile displays and investigated how to choose the right application area of those devices. We have also tested if those devices would be proper to use them as diagnostic medical devices used by medical doctors.

During last decade it is visible new impulse in case of color quality evaluation of artificial light sources. New ideas are based on criticism of CIE color rendering index Ra that appears insufficient especially for solid state light sources, nevertheless proposed metrics aren't broadly accepted. In this article is presented short overview of color rendering indices history with discussion about possible improvement of CIE color rendering index by gamut mapping.

Bended light-guides represent an effective way of transporting of daylight into interiors of buildings, which can not be illuminated by vertical or roof windows. The effectivity of using those kind of devices depends on their physical parameters (length, diameter, band orientation, inner reflectance). But dependence on exterior properties, such as position of Sun, turbidity of atmosphere and mainly the presence of broken cloud arrays, is prior. Experimental approach of describing behavior of a light-guide is practically impossible, because of rapid changes of exterior conditions and of unrepeatability of measurements. Therefore, there is a need of numerical modeling as accurate as possible, which takes into account a wide range of sky states and variable configuration of light-guide. So far, most of such modeling were based on using empirical models, while our approach includes local state of the atmosphere and also 3D modeling of light transport through the light-guide. This contribution is focused on determining the efficiency of the bended light-guides with different bend angles and orientation of their upper part by various levels of cloud fractions and positions of Sun. As a modeling tool, a link between the programs Unisky Simulator and Holigilm was created. Unisky Simulator is designed to model sky luminance distributions for arbitrary meteorological conditions and Holigilm enables calculations of light transmittance bended light-guides.

The article compares three types of intelligent installation systems for lighting control from the perspective of their own power consumption and changes during operation. In the given context, the presentation focuses on the following aspects: the approaches to ensuring communication between parts of the system, and the form of such information exchange; the bus type; the voltage levels; the form of and the transmission of data messages.

This paper provides a detailed description of a novel solution which combines the CAD lighting design software with the on-site measurement. New technology illuminance spectroradiometers able to handle measurement procedure to verify lighting levels and other quality measures using CAD plans as a reference and reporting illuminance level back to the design software. It also discusses the use of Imaging Luminance Measurement Devices in the practical verification of luminance levels inside and outside buildings. Available design tools support designers with calculation and simulation of luminance levels but little is available when the onsite software and hardware tools are available for onsite verification. This is especially critical for verification of architectural and road lighting installation.
