The trilobite Parabolina frequens argentina Zone is widely represented in the upper Furongian of northwestern Argentina. A fossil assemblage from the lower Santa Rosita Formation at Quebrada de Abra Blanca, Jujuy Province, is described herein. Parabolina frequens argentina (Kayser) and Parabolinella coelatifrons Harrington & Leanza have previously been reported from other localities of the biozone, whereas Lotagnostus hedini (Troedsson) is here described from South America for the first time. The latter provides high resolution data on the age of the P . frequens argentina Zone in the eastern Cordillera Oriental, where conodont-bearing strata have not been found yet. L . hedini exhibits a short biostratigraphic range, restricted to the latest Furongian of China (Xinjiang, Bulbolenus Zone; western Zhejiang, Lotagnostus hedini Zone), Kazakhstan ( Euloma limitaris - Taoyuania Zone) and ?Canada (western Newfoundland, Phylacterus saylesi Fauna). In China and Kazakhstan, it occurs in association with, or a few meters below, the first appearance of the conodont Cordylodus proavus ; a fact that increases the potential for global correlation.

Biodiversity inventories remain fundamental tools for biodiversity conservation. Neotropical biota has poor faunal inventories. In Argentina, the avifauna of the province of Entre Rios is still not well known. Here, we present the first exhaustive bird inventory of Northern Entre Rios. We recorded 317 bird species. Three species were new for the province of Entre Rios and eight were new for Northern Entre Rios. We recorded 17 threatened species, 4 biome-restricted species and two restricted range species. The high bird diversity of Northern Entre Rios contrasts with the lack of effective reserves to ensure the survival of endangered species. Creation of natural reserves in this area is urgent. These protected areas should have a management plan and stable park rangers assigned, to ensure the protection of the avian diversity of Northern Entre Rios.

P . caerulea is the Passiflora species with the widest distribution in Argentina. Despite the need to cultivate it to decrease the extraction impact on its natural populations, the information on how environmental factors affect seed germinability is scarce. In order to evaluate the greminative response and the role of the antioxidant metabolism against saline stress, freshly collected seeds were germinated in the presence of 0 (control), 30, 60 or 90 mM NaCl. The percentage of germination, the content of soluble and carbonylated proteins, the activity of antioxidant enzymes and the generation of reactive oxygen species both in the pre-germination phase and during germination were evaluated. The removal of the aryl and the micropillar integument after 3 h imbibition proved to induce a rapid germination and activation of the enzymes catalase, glutathione S-transferase and peroxidases, together with an increase and a decrease in the generation of O 2 .- and H 2 O 2 , respectively, at the root apex. Even though the germination and activity of some of the studied enzymes decreased with the increase in external NaCl levels, when comparing populations of the control and 90 mM NaCl treatments having similar germination percentages, a marked induction of peroxidase activity was observed in the latter group. The proportion of carbonylated proteins did not differ among treatments, which suggests that, despite this species cannot be considered as halo-tolerant, the fact that the antioxidant metabolism efficiently contributed to prevent oxidative damage to the proteome may constitute an important mechanism to facilitate its establishment in environments with moderate salinity.
