Frequency modulation (FM) is a class of analog modulation techniques that rely on varying the instantaneous frequency of a radio-frequency (RF) carrier in accordance with the baseband signal. The amplitude of the FM signal is constant, while its instantaneous frequency is time variant; therefore, the zero crossing rate (ZCR) of the carrier differs at a rate proportional to the Nyquist rate of the baseband signal. Unlike amplitude modulation (AM), FM is a nonlinear modulation technique; therefore, the calculation of the spectrum of an FM signal is expected to be a tedious mathematical problem.

The need for cellular telecommunication services is increasing every year. Cellular technology is rapidly growing in developing countries because of the lack of wired physical networks. This has an impact on increasing the energy demand.

Harmful algae blooms (HABs) regularly occur in the Great Lakes in Canada, particularly in Lake Erie. These HABs produce a toxin called microcystin, which can cause liver damage, numbness, and vomiting in both humans and animals (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration [NOAA], 2017). Lake Erie experienced one of its worst HABs in 2019. These HABs do not show signs of slowing down. Calm winds and rainfall around farmlands cause HABs as evaporated nutrients from fertilizers drain into bodies of water. Runoff from fertilizers on farmland also causes HABs. Figure 1 displays satellite images showing a severe HAB in Lake Erie.

Systems are getting increasingly complicated based on the increased functionalities demanded by users. The result of this growing complexity has been a correspondingly high challenge for users operating their own systems. At first glance, the obvious solution to this issue may appear to be system simplification and a parallel reduction in operational capability, but this option is not viable because of the increasingly difficult operational environment.

The overall purpose of this study is to explore the potential of quantum-based communication networks, leveraging the unique properties of quantum entanglement and superposition, to address critical applications, such as image processing, machine learning, data mining, and encryption. Additionally, this research aims to overcome the limitations of traditional binary systems in the field of computing. The basic methodology of this research involves a comprehensive investigation into the establishment of end-to-end entanglement between two quantum computers, which is fundamental for building robust quantum networks. Performance measures for quantum computers within the context of quantum networks are defined and evaluated, with a specific focus on network design, reliability, security, and trust. Quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA) devices are introduced as a technological advancement to enhance security and trust mechanisms within quantum communication networks.
