Analysis On The Effect Of Express Checkouts In Retail Stores 零售店快速结账效果分析

In this study, we investigate the effect of having express checkout lanes in retail stores. Express checkout lanes are being used to reduce expected wait time of small-buying customers, but their operational effect has not been analyzed so far. By comparing the wait time and the queue length of the two scenarios (universal checkout lanes only and separated checkout lanes with express counters) via simulation, we have found that the average wait time of the separated checkout lanes may not be shorter than that of universal checkout lanes. This may be due to that the effect of pooling servers decreases as the number of servers being pooled at each checkout set decreases. The queue length of express checkout lanes may be shorter than that of universal checkout lanes, but in some cases, the average queue length of separated checkout lanes is longer than that of universal checkout lanes, probably due to the effect of pooling servers. By conducting a computational study, we have observed that the effect of pooling servers decreases with customer arrival rate, decreases with regular checkout duration, and slightly increases with regular checkout time variability. These results give us an insight on when the express checkout counters can be effective in retail service operations.

Impact Of Board Characteristics On Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure 董事会特征对企业社会责任披露的影响

The purpose of this study is to explore the link between corporate governance characteristics and corporate social responsibility disclosure of listed companies in the Pakistan stock Exchange (PSX), Pakistan. A sample of 179 companies from financial and non-financial sectors are studied from 2009 to 2015. The data is collected from their annual reports and websites. Binary logistic regression analysis is employed to test the models. The results reveal that board size, number of meetings and board independence are significant corporate governance characteristics to establish the link with corporate social responsibility disclosure. This study also explore that the trend of CSR disclosure is increasing in financial as well as non-financial sector. Additionally, the companies disclose their CSR activities lead in financial performance as compare to their counterpart. This study adds in the literature to explore the influence of board characteristics on corporate social responsibility disclosure from a developing country’s perspective.

Stock Market Liquidity And Dividend Policy In Korean Corporations 韩国企业的股票市场流动性与股利政策

The liquidity hypothesis predicts a negative relationship between stock liquidity and dividend payout propensity, i.e., a firm will decide to pay dividends to compensate for the liquidity demand of investors. This study comprehensively examines whether the liquidity hypothesis applies to the sample of Korean firms listed in the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets. The main results of this paper are as follows. First, the dividend policy in Korean firms does not support the liquidity hypothesis, contradictory to the existing empirical studies. Next, the explanatory power of the liquidity hypothesis is even weaker for the KOSDAQ market, inconsistent with international evidence. Finally, even when we focus on the firm-year observations with non-negligible dividend payments, the liquidity hypothesis does not explain the dividend policy of Korean firms either. Our findings significantly contribute to the literature by robustly confirming the very limited role of the liquidity hypothesis for Korean financial markets.

Businesses are getting better, bigger, more integrated and more complex in this era. The recognition of the influence and importance of quality of work life can be beneficial to employees and employers in a business. If an employee’s expectation are met, they have a clear and concise perception toward their work contributing to long-term career. The principle of this study is to demonstrate the influence of quality of work life, expectations towards work and perception of work on commitment to long-term career on the employees in the Gauteng province of South Africa. A quantitative research design was utilized and a sample of 250 employees in managerial and non-managerial employees was used. The study uses smart PLS to do data analysis. The outcomes of this study showed the acceptance of all the hypotheses that there is a significant influence of quality of work life, expectations towards work and perception of work life on commitment to long-term career.

Differentiation Strategy, CSR, And Real Activities Earnings Management: Evidence From Korea 差异化战略、企业社会责任与真实活动盈余管理:来自韩国的证据

We empirically investigate whether a differentiation strategy constrains real activities earnings management (RAEM). Further, considering corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities are a popular tool of differentiation strategy, we examine whether interactive synergy between CSR activities and the differentiation strategy strengthens the negative relationship between differentiation strategy and RAEM. Using a sample of 659 firm-year observations of Korean manufacturing listed firms during 2005-2010, we find that differentiation strategy is negatively associated with RAEM, suggesting that firms pursuing a differentiation strategy are likely to refrain from managing earnings using RAEM that goes against their strategy. We also observe that interactive synergy between differentiation and CSR strengthens the negative relationship between differentiation strategy and RAEM, implying that synergy effect between CSR and differentiation strategy even more constrains RAEM that is in conflict with both CSR and differentiation strategy. These findings are robust after we perform sensitivity tests. This study contributes to the literature by providing the first evidence on the relationship between differentiation strategy and RAEM and the moderating role of CSR activities on the relationship.

Impact Of Social Media Advertising On High Energy Drink Preferences And Consumption 社交媒体广告对高能量饮料偏好和消费的影响

Despite the surging appropriation of social media by marketers for communicative marketing of brands, what remains under-explored in literature is the capacity of social media platforms to influence student preferences for brands. This research gap is ironic given the growing literature on the potential of self-images shared on social media to influence consumers’ product preferences and purchase intentions. Drawing on Media Richness Theory, agency, extant literature and authors’ personal reflections on social media adoption for brand selection by students, this theoretical study examines how students navigate such platforms to make informed choices about energy drinks. The findings suggest while students exploited social media platforms intermittently to access energy drink brands, their brand preferences and choices were informed by personal agency (especially personal volition, peer influences, convenience and availability of brands) more than social media networks per se. The study contributes a conceptual model that integrate social media appropriation, consumer decision making, brand preferences and purchases. While the model is untested, its methodological strength lays in its reliance on extant literature, proven concepts, anecdotes of student consumption behavior and authors’ knowledge of social media, which are critical to deepening academics and policy makers’ understanding of social media-brand preference relations in real world contexts.

Transformational Leadership Potential At A University Of Technology 科技大学的变革领导力潜力

In South Africa as elsewhere in the world, higher education institutions have been criticised for a lack of transformation. This apparent lack of transformation called into question the capability of the leaders within these institutions to effectively lead change and transform the higher education institutional landscape. The aim of this study was to explore the transformational leadership competency potential amongst managers in a university of technology in South Africa.  The measures of potential used are eight competency factors known as the ‘Great Eight’ (Bartram, 2005) derived from Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ32) scale scores. The OPQ32r was administered to 111 managers within a university of technology.  The majority of respondents had a balanced mix of styles between a transformational and transactional focus. These leaders not only exhibit less transformational competencies but also an insufficient strong transactional focus. These findings have severe implications for the transformation of

This apparent lack of transformation called into question the capability of the leaders within these institutions to effectively lead change and transform the higher education institutional landscape. The aim of this study was to explore the transformational leadership competency potential amongst managers in a university of technology in South Africa.  The measures of potential used are eight competency factors known as the ‘Great Eight’ (Bartram, 2005) derived from Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ32) scale scores. The OPQ32r was administered to 111 managers within a university of technology.  The majority of respondents had a balanced mix of styles between a transformational and transactional focus. These leaders not only exhibit less transformational competencies but also an insufficient strong transactional focus. This paper reviews the theory of Chief Executive Officer hubris and related constructs. It is to identify the area of Chief Executive Officer hubris clearly and to clarify the confusion of related constructs which includes: overconfidence, Chief Executive Officer celebrity, and narcissism. We examined the four related constructs comprehensively and evaluated Chief Executive Officer hubris construct as an antecedent or consequence. Throughout the research mainstream, these research related constructs often use the word hubris interchangeably. Many researchers are confused whether Chief Executive Officer hubris is an antecedent or consequence? We will attempt to resolve this issue by examining antecedents and consequences of Chief Executive Officer hubris and related constructs. Furthermore, suggestions and implications for future research based on Chief Executive Officer hubris will be assessed.

The impact of job demands and resources on job crafting 工作需求和资源对工作制作的影响

Organizations are constantly under pressure for survival in the current highly volatile work environment. This change has been accelerated by trends such as smart work environments and artificial intelligence in the organizational context. Given such uncertainty deriving from a fast rate of change and high complexity, it is vital for organizations to fully utilize and support individuals to be fully engaged in their work, setting grounds for transformation and modification of general roles and specific tasks. Based on the job demands-resources model, our hypotheses are tested using empirical data extracted from 172 subjects currently working in organizations. By commissioning a questionnaire survey method and hierarchical regression analysis, the results offer partially strong support for our proposed research model. We attained moderate support for our hypotheses, in that an individuals’ perception of job resources and job demands in the work context induce job crafting (i.e., task, cognitive, and relational), which acts as a critical mechanism arousing individual work engagement and job stress. In general, job resources (i.e., job autonomy and performance feedback) predicted work engagement, while job demands (i.e., work overload, emotional demands, and technology demands) affected job stress. Also, job demands and job resources both influenced task job crafting, while emotional demands were related to cognitive and relational job crafting, implying different paths between demands and resources and various job crafting activities. In addition, three job crafting dimensions affected work engagement, while only relational job crafting positively affected job stress.

This study examines the linkages between managerial support for the environment, employee environmental commitment, perceived behavioral control, and employee propensity to recycle. Using a convenience sample (N = 142), we report that employee environmental commitment mediates the relationship between managerial support and propensity to behave eco-friendly. Additionally, we showed that perceived behavioral control moderates the relationship between employee environmental commitment and propensity to recycle.
