The Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square has become one of the most important and exciting public exhibition venues in the last decade, eliciting the enthusiastic following of millions from around the world. Since its inception, the rotating display of modern sculpture on this Plinth has caused a sensation, and the international art press frequently reports on the installations. Trafalgar Square, an internationally recognized public space, is visited by millions of people annually. The installations on the Fourth Plinth have elevated the Square to one of the most important contemporary art venues in the world.

BY PATRICIA DELAHANTY In early 2022, the National Sculpture Society hosted a special exhibition of works by sculptors under the age of 30. The NSS Exhibition Committee, along with the Fantasy Fountain Fund, a non-profit organization that provides scholarships and educational opportunities to young artists, organized the “Young Artists” exhibition as a showcase for emerging figurative sculptors. Elected and Fellow members of NSS were asked to recommend artists they may have taught, mentored, or worked with in some capacity in studios or foundries. Ultimately, 19 artists were selected for the show held at the NSS Gallery in midtown Manhattan from January 17 to March 4. Prizes were awarded to four sculptors in the show through the generosity of the Fantasy Fountain Fund and NSS President Michel Langlais.
