There are historical spaces that are very little known to the general population. for this reason, it is of great importance to ensure that these are known known throughout the world. For this, there are new informative techniques that allow you to visit places without the need to go to them. For this, the complete virtualization of space has been proposed, combining photogrammetry techniques with traditional survey techniques. That all of them together make up a complete model of the location its topography, layout, buildings, vegetation and the environment that surrounds it. With this, the architectural survey of the historic garden of Arguijuela de Arriba is propose), located in the province of Cáceres, (Spain) in an area of great importance due to its defensive nature during the time of the reconquest. With all this, it has been possible to combine different techniques to obtain a digital copy of the enclave, on which it has been possible to project an intervention that improves accessibility. and its conservation.

Nowadays, built heritage condition assessment is realized through on-site or photo-aided visual inspections, reporting pathologies manually on drawings, photographs, notes. The knowledge of the state of conservation goes through subjective and time or cost consuming procedures. This is even relevant for a historic building characterized by geometrical and morphological complexity and huge extension, or at risk of collapse. In this context, advancements in the field of Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence provide an opportunity to address these criticalities. The proposed methodology is based on a Mask R-CNN model, for the detection of decay morphologies on built heritages, and, particularly on historic buildings. The experimentation has been carried out and validated on a highly heterogeneous dataset of images of historic buildings, representative of the regional Architectural Heritage, such as: castles, monasteries, noble buildings, rural buildings. The outcomes highlighted the significance of this remote, non-invasive inspection technique, in support of the technicians in the preliminary knowledge of the building state of conservation, and, most of all, in the decay mapping of some particular classes of alterations (moist area, biological colonization).

This research is part of the European project F-ATLAS – Franciscan Landscapes the Observance between Italy, Portugal and Spain, which aim is to study the Franciscan Observance network and to find effective strategies for the conservation, protection and promotion of this important heritage. The contribution is focused on the multidisciplinary study of the Monastery of Sant Miquel d’Escornalbou (Tarragona, Spain). The historical, architectural and patrimonial research on this last and interesting centre of medieval spirituality has been developed jointly by the Italian and Spanish teams of the project. From its foundation until the last reconstruction by Eduard Toda around 1910, the complex’s function and shape have changed significantly: during the centuries, several interventions have modified it to the point of making it difficult today to read its origin and evolutionary phases. The integrated laser-scanner and photogrammetric survey, together with the creation of a digital catalogue of geo-referenced convents and the results of the international workshop carried out in November 2021, represent the bases for further analysis regarding the evolutionary phases of the complex, the buildings’ structure conditions and the definition of possible strategies for redevelopment.

The present contribution illustrates the documentation and setting up of a digital database of a portion of Bellisomi-Vistarino Palace in Pavia (Italy), a relevant historical asset due to its artistic value. Despite recent restoration work, there are still disused portions of the complex, including the garden, the loggia and the rooms on the ground floor that overlook it. These portions are the elements this paper deals with. The approach to a small portion of the building is a pilot case from the perspective of a broader work of integral documentation of the whole complex. The aim is to define digital support for diagnostic and restoration planning activities from the perspective to enhance and create a new cultural attraction for the city, using the Foundation of the University of Pavia, already settled in the Palace and their organizational skills and networks. This is achieved by structuring a tridimensional digital twin and database connected to it to monitor the assets and generate digital environments for cultural and touristic valorisation.

The use of recovered materials in building construction is one of the most effective strategies for reducing the environmental impacts of the construction sector. Innovative technologies such as 3D construction printing can be applied in combination with recycling strategies in order to optimise their performances also from an environmental point of view. In fact, several studies have proposed the processing of waste material into printable material. At the same time, performance studies must be conducted on the building components produced by these methods. This study proposes a methodological approach to design a 3D printable building component made with recycled materials considering the improvement of thermal performances. In particular, the approach is based on three steps: reuse strategy conception; target performance definition, modelling and iterative simulation; 3D printing setting. The methodological approach has been applied to a 3D printable block using as printable material a cement-based mortar with recycled aggregates and recycled insulating material. As a result, the component’s shape (interlocking and inspired by honeycombs) can be customised to achieve the required thermal performance by using recycled materials in the printing process.

This article presents research conducted as part of the European project F-ATLAS, which aims to study the convent complexes of the Franciscan Observance and their landscape context between Italy, Spain and Portugal. The research uses historical and archival sources and integrated digital survey methodologies to document and study the network of the Observance convents and the routes that connect them for their conservation, protection and valorisation. In particular, the text illustrates the preliminary phases of the study of the conventual complex La Romita di Cesi (TR) in Umbria, Italy - one of the Oratories given in concession to Paoluccio Trinci in 1373, suppressed in 1866 and brought back to light in 1991 by Fra Bernardino. Parallel to studying historical and archival sources, two integrated digital survey campaigns were carried out using TLS and photographic instruments. This work aimed to become a reliable support for the preservation of the Observant Cultural Heritage, for its promotion to insiders and the public, and finally, for the future management of La Romita.

The article deals with the definition and evaluation of a workflow to demonstrate that the parametric model of a historic building with a high level of digital maturity can be configured as a tool that fosters collaboration between the various professionals involved in the recovery and rehabilitation process of historic buildings. It also represents the starting point for developing structural models for quantitative analyses. The implementation of HBIM to the building aggregate called “La Giudea” in Santo Stefano di Sessanio (AQ), an artefact that is particularly representative of the historical building heritage of the small medieval village in the Abruzzo Inner Areas, has provided a model for managing the information deriving from the knowledge process. The model delivers to the use of the state of conservation, and it represents the base for the structural analysis of the asset and the identification of the measure and interventions for its preservation. The parametric model was developed in the design of strengthening and restoration works requiring interactions between digital environments. In such a framework, an investigation aimed at evaluating the interoperability of the digital model and particularly the vertical interoperability between different software packages has been explored.

In such a framework, an investigation aimed at evaluating the interoperability of the digital model and particularly the vertical interoperability between different software packages has been explored.","PeriodicalId":40999,"journal":{"name":"VITRUVIO-International Journal of Architectural Technology and Sustainability","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2023-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75458395","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
