Currently, several resin-based restorative biomaterials harden through a photopolymerization reaction, for which a polymerization unit (UP) is necessary. The objective of this manuscript is to generate a guide based on current scientific evidence for the correct use of UPs. A search was made for articles published from 2002 to January 2022 through PubMed and Google Scholar. The information was organized into 10 relevant topics in the form of a decalogue: wavelength, light intensity, tip diameter, curing time, curing mode, curing distance, use of barriers, battery and charging, cleaning and disinfection, and regular checks. Health professionals must know and remember the importance of a proper use and maintenance of PUs, since this can influence the clinical performance of the biomaterial.

Necrotizing sialometaplasia is a benign and self-limiting pathological entity that occurs in minor salivary glands, most frequently located on the border between the hard and soft palate. It has an unclear etiology, being associated with physical, chemical or biological injury, which would produce necrosis due to ischemia of the glandular tissue and a subsequent attempt to repair, which histologically translates into tissue metaplasia. Clinically, it can present as an irregular ulcer, with raised edges and a necrotic base, giving it an appearance that is easily confused with a malignant oral neoplasm. Although they have a low prevalence, their knowledge can avoid unnecessary and mutilating clinical maneuvers. We present the case of an adult, who had a family history of malignant neoplasm of the head and neck, and his clinical evolution. Relevant aspects are discussed. Ulcerated lesions with a crater-like appearance, located on the palate, should evoke this lesion as part of their diagnostic hypotheses, their knowledge can avoid carrying out mutilating and unnecessary treatments.

The training of the staff in study centres is scarce around oral health, being the ICT valid tools to improve it. Objective: to design a web app for the immediate treatment of traumatic oral injuries in schoolchildren. Method: a virtual protocol about the immediate treatment given to children in the event of a traumatic dental injury was designed. The contents follow an instructional design with a logical order of appearance. Results: the app was planned together with ICT analysts, following the compatibility demands of browsers and information safety and the PHPLaravel programming language was applied and the MySQL database engine. Discussion: The digital environment or educative spaces are the objects or gadgets of a digital nature in a concrete scenario, social and culturally built, with the purpose of favouring valuable learning experiences. Conclusions: a training app was created, promoting de usefulness of open educational resources for the oral health promotion.

Obesity and dental caries share common and modifiable risk factors: diet and lifestyle. Objective: Identify and analyze the available literature on the possible association between obesity and dental caries in children and adolescents. Method: Tho researchers conducted a review of the literature in Spanish, English, and Portuguese using Pubmed, SciELO, Latindex, and Cochrane (obesity AND body mass index AND caries AND children OR adolescents). Results: 115 articles were identified, and 28 articles were included after full text analysis (21 cross-sectional studies, 4 longitudinal studies, 3 systematic reviews). Four cross-sectional studies and one longitudinal study demonstrated the association between obesity and the presence of caries. Conclusions: The studies analyzed on the association between obesity and caries present inconsistent results. The multifactorial origin of the pathologies analyzed can contribute to rejecting the hypothesis of association of both pathologies from the excessive consumption of carbohydrates and fermentable sugars.
