The classical solution for collecting data from energy meters, based on displacements of peoples, tends to be replaced by modern solutions: drive-by and Automated Meter Reading (AMR). AMR means to automatically collect data from meters and send them to a central computer. An Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is an AMR infrastructure with bidirectional smart meters — gateway communication, this leading to extra facilities. This paper describes an AMI based system. Smart meters are connected to a gateway through power lines and the gateway communicates with a central computer through GSM. The power line communication is implemented with an industrial bus, LonWork. The paper focuses the data collection solution.

In this paper we analyze basic approaches for modeling of collaboration networks and propose some new extensions in weighting ties among event participants. One of the extensions is based on the idea of aging of the ties among collaborators. Classical as well as newly proposed approaches to weighting of ties in collaboration networks are experimentally evaluated. We performed two experiments with real data set and as a reference we used data gathered from peoples' opinions expressed in targeted inquiries.

This paper summarizes the results of research tasks in the field of physiological modeling and control of diseases with high public health impact carried out by the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. The developed and presented optimal algorithms and strategies focus on three diseases with high public health impact diabetes (the question of artificial pancreas), obesity (predicting obesity-related risks) and cancer (antiangiogenic chemotherapy). The studies are done together with different Hungarian hospitals, from where measurement data were obtained.

Most transformer failures are attributed to bushings failures. Hence it is necessary to monitor the condition of bushings. In this paper three methods are developed to monitor the condition of oil filled bushing. Multi-layer perceptron (MLP), Radial basis function (RBF) and Rough Set (RS) models are developed and combined through majority voting to form a committee. The MLP performs better that the RBF and the RS is terms of classification accuracy. The RBF is the fasted to train. The committee performs better than the individual models. The diversity of models is measured to evaluate their similarity when used in the committee.

The presented study deals with temperature distribution of healthy human bodies which were measured by infrared thermography. We used Infrared Imager with detector type 320×240 Focal Plane Array, Vanadium Oxide (VOx), Uncooled Microbolometer. A database of 240 thermograms from different position or locality of human body was created. The following eight views of human body were captured: TBA (Total Body — Anterior view), TBD (Total Body — Dorsal view), ToA (Torso — Anterior view), ToD (Torso — Dorsal view), DH (Dorsal side of Hand), PH (Palmar side of Hand), F (Foot) and FT (Facial Title). The database can be helpful in the diagnostics of many neurovascular and musculoskeletal diseases or injuries.

In this paper, we proposed feature extraction method in natural scene images. And also, we develop character recognition system using feature extraction method in natural scene images. A graph matching method use structural feature of character. It is recognition method that it considers relation of position and structural relation. It is robust method to change of font or rotation. In order to proof it, we tested two cases that training font and test font are same case or difference case.

Manufacturing companies are often faced with a large variety of customer needs. Frequently the consequence is an extensive number of assembly and part variants. Furthermore, customizing complex product platforms results in a great effort. Development and production costs are therefore on a high level. Hence, companies try to find the optimum equilibrium of internal costs and external demands [1]. If there are repetitive and nearly identical design processes, that goal can be achieved by optimizing product development processes by software driven design automation. This paper describes an “automated design to cost” approach which allows a reduction of engineering efforts by developing a standardized set of parts and modeling design knowledge.

The paper describes a relational abstraction of neighborhood cooperation for Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) where node can identify its neighbors around it. Since radio links have limited range only some nodes have a direct contact with the Base Station (BS) and data transmission is executed using multi-hop communication to ensure that information is send from one node to another towards the BS. The novel abstract uses a subordination relation, to manage the neighbor cooperation between WSN nodes, that exploits topological properties of the WSN. Based on the hop-distance from the BS, any node k is able to establish a set N<(k) consisting of nodes to which k has to send communication messages in order to maintain the data-flow direction towards the BS.

Near Field Communication (NFC) is one of the latest wireless communication technologies, making possible variety of novel services on mobile equipments. At Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) a generalized approach for NFC application development has been elaborated, where applications can be implemented and executed in a common environment. We have developed the prototype of an application framework based on the generalized approach that provides the possibility of rapid implementation of any kind of the business logic and the user interface as well as the opportunity to create a new skin for the already existing application. Based on this framework we have implemented a system which aims to support the examination process at a university. This system covers large part of the examination process by utilizing the benefits of both the mobile and NFC technologies. By the use of the proposed system the examination process become significantly faster and requires less administrative work. The current paper provides a detailed description on the implemented examination system covering the identified roles and the technical business processes.
