This article explores the representations that 32 student teachers have about the context and placement participants. The results identify the context where the placement is being carried out as a real space of training and production crisis source, and the presence of two types of participants: those who are enthusiastic and under development; and those who experience professional frustration. The qualitative approach was used based on the interpretative case study in which semi-structured interviews and a strategy discussion based on thematic analysis were carried out. The research was conducted on the campus of a regional university of Chile. The study opens up prospects for dialogue in the region, capable of enriching Initial Teacher Training.

The article recovers the history of the construction of a theoretical corpus that has tried to integrate a large number of explanatory elements about the relationship between schooling and work. The proposal is to analyze the value of three intermediate categories: a matrix of the heterogeneous nature of labor sectors in Mexico, the socio-educational projects for the creation of schools educating the labor force, and the curriculum institutional structures that mark the boundaries for an effective education. The text is developed through the description of four long standing research projects —and some other punctual research projects—, that have focused on populations with different levels of schooling in different labor sectors, temporalities and geographical zones in Mexico.

The present work aims to analyze two topics around three words: school, teacher and letter. The first commitment is compromised to think how the rise of Argentine Educative System operated over the female teachers’ participation in the educational practices. At the end of the nineteenth century, the Argentine Estate considered that the female figure was the most suitable to drive the civilizing act of the normal school. These beliefs were justified by her “natural gifts”: care and predisposition towards others. In a second commitment, we extrapolate this question to reflect how this prescription was reformulated by the own women to escape from the private domestic space in order to establish new relationships and negotiations in spaces which belonged to male (public) and males (institutions and ministry agents). Investigate the ability of these women claim that the teachers have to petition on what they consider fair and thus himself, his ability to challenge the essentialist discourses on " teacher " that circulated at the time. This life experience will be analyzed from letters written by a young foreign teacher: Isabel Coolidge.

This article analyses educational-working paths of a cohort of students graduated from vocational high school in Chile. The background allows indicating that this training modality is no longer an instance of early exit to the world of work for an important segment of youngsters, who pursue higher education after high school graduation. However, it is also observed that approximately 40% of high school graduates do not pursue further studies, engaging in working activities that are not linked to the training received. Most of these students access to temporary jobs, mainly in the service sector and perform tasks that strictly would not require the formal training intended by the curriculum of technical education. This duality points out the need of a deep discussion about a number of issues regarding this educational modality: its characteristics, the place of employability skills training and the reforms eventually needed by the educational system based on the experiences of students themselves.

This paper is structured in two main sections: the first describes competency-based learning, and the second analyses strategic educational management as an alternative to traditional management, with an emphasis on leadership competency. This paper will aim to establish a link between this educational model and the management of educational institutions; that is to say, the competency-based approach will be presented as a teaching-learning model whilst contributing to educational management.

The paper analyzes the time frame required for bachelor degree attainment, as well as its relation with socio-demographic variables and academic aptitude. A follow-up study of students entering the University of Costa Rica between 2000 and 2003 was conducted up until 2010. The data were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier survival curves. A higher probability of early graduation was found in women and students enrolled in branch campuses. Moreover, Cox regression models were estimated, showing a negative correlation between the time frame required for obtaining the bachelor degree, on one hand, and the score obtained in an academic aptitude test, the type of high school (public/private), and whether the student had received financial aid from the university, on the other. The results show a trend in students with higher academic aptitude of successfully finishing their studies earlier. Furthermore, socioeconomic condition does not have a significant effect. The authors claim that this pattern is due to the role of the financial aid system of the university.
