Introduction: A review of literature on styles of coping with stress and motivation for therapy in alcohol dependent women and men was conducted. It was concluded that empirical data published hitherto allows the identification of gender differences, but precludes the creation of unequivocal models of motivation and coping with stress in women and men. Material and methods: Ninety volunteers (33 F and 57 M), age 22 to 70 years (M = 43.70; SD = 11.26), attending rehab therapy (M = 7.97 months; SD = 5.76) in Upper Silesia addiction therapy centre took part in the study. Respondents fill in a demographic data questionnaire, Treatment Motivation Questionnaire and Coping with Stress Questionnaire. Results: It was shown, that: 1) passive waiting for help from others is significantly more frequent in women than in men; 2) incompetence in coping is significantly higher in women than in men; 3) need for learning new things and for growth is slightly higher (statistical tendency) in women than in men; 4) women significantly more often than men apply emotion-oriented strategies; 5) Men significantly more often than women seek out social contacts; 6) women significantly more frequently than men engage in replacement activities. Discussion: The pattern of the obtained results was different for women and men. Women wait passively for help from others, they believe in their own helplessness and are prone to reduce emotional tension. Men cope with stress throughout by seeking out social contacts. Conclusions: In therapeutic work with women, external motivators should be underlined, while working with men internal motivators should be used more frequently. In the group of females, the competencies required for identifying, accept-ing and coping with difficult emotions are crucial. In the group of males, the competencies for seeking out adaptive social relations are required.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19), with its complex and unique pathophysiology, is an emerging threat for global health and is affecting the health and social wellbeing of the population in unprecedented ways, one of the most noticeable of which is skyrocketing sales of alcoholic beverages Increased alcohol drinking is strongly correlated with weak immune system and heightened risk of pulmonary infections Increased level of drinking to cope with the stress resulting from disruption in daily living can further increase the susceptibility to COVID-19 related morbidity and mortality, and delay recovery Countermeasures against controlling the virus, such as physical distancing, should therefore be accompanied by those on limiting sales and consumption of alcohol as well In order to prevent the risk of overconsumption during the pandemic, and minimise the risk for post-pandemic increase in alcohol use disorders and associated mental health issues, public health services and programmes should pay special attention to the underlying factors and take evidence-based measures to address them

Introduction: Food addiction is defined by a pattern of eating high-calorie foods, which is similar to psychoactive substance dependence. The aim of the study was to validate the Polish adaptation of the Yale Food Addiction Scale 2.0 (YFAS 2.0), which measures the degree of food addiction based on 11 addiction criteria according to DSM-5. Material and methods: Validation studies were carried out on a sample of 431 people (67.75% women), aged 18-60. Construct validity was assessed using CFA (confirmatory factor analysis) for dichotomous diagnostic data. Reliability was assessed by analysing time stability of the results, internal consistency and item-total correlations. Validity was assessed using body weight, BMI, Scale of Involvement on Eating Streszczenie Wprowadzenie: jedzenia który w i przypomina Celem walidacja adaptacji Yale Food Addiction Scale 2.0 (YFAS 2.0), mierzącej Behaviour (SZJ), Three Factor Eating Questionnaire and Self-Control Scale. Differences in selected reliability indicators depending on the YFAS 2.0 diagnostic grades were analysed. The severity of symptoms was compared between food addicts anonymous, individuals enrolled in a weight-loss programme and those from a normative sample. Results: CFA demonstrated a perfect fit between the study results and the theoretical model of the YFAS 2.0. High coefficients of reliability measures were obtained. The YFAS 2.0 positively correlates with body weight, BMI, SZJ results, difficulties in controlling eating and emotional eating, and negatively with self-control ability. Significant differences were found in the validity indicators and between compared groups, depending on the diagnostic degrees of food addiction. Discussion: The Polish adaptation of YFAS 2.0 is characterised by high reliability and validity. Conclusions: The Polish adaptation of YFAS 2.0 has very good psychometric properties and can be used in scientific research and clinical practice.
使用CFA(验证性因子分析)评估二元诊断数据的结构效度。

The COVID-19 pandemic is a stress factor for the general population and has been associated with an increase in mental illnesses and psycho-active substance use disorders Evidence indicates that there has been a switch in the pattern of use and choice of drugs, with increased use of licit substances such as alcohol The population with substance use disorders is known to be particularly vulnerable, and this status may be worsened by the current pandemic, with increased risk of infection and severe illness It is important that health services adapt to the new risks and challenges that this population faces

Introduction: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) in the geriatric population is often missed although the prevalence ranges from 1.1% to 4.1%. However, the first drink in the eighth decade of life is rare. Here we report a patient who started drinking at 72 years of age and developed dependence within a year. Case description: Mr P. was referred for alcohol dependence treatment from the Department of Surgery, diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia and hypertension. He was 74 years old and had started drinking alcohol (whiskey) only in the last 2 years due to boredom. He also had suffered from postural and action tremors for the last 30 years, which decreased on drinking. Initially starting with 30 mg of alcohol once in a month due to peer pressure, he quickly developed tolerance within 1 year, requiring 60 mg Streszczenie

Introduction: Parental attitudes in families with alcohol related problems play a significant role in the moulding of maladaptive behaviour patterns in children. Many authors referred to the influence of alcohol dependent father, however the transmission of the co-dependent mothers’ attitudes on children appears to be a sphere still lacking extensive research. John Bowlby’s theory of attachment emphasises the mother’s unique role in child upbringing and creating patterns of attachment in childhood. Streszczenie
