A brief review of some electrodynamical aspects of the power transmission (for instance, from a space power station) by a long narrow microwave beam is given. Two ideas which have to be analyzed by the detailed theoretical investigation of the problem are expounded.

The nonlinear integral equation describing solutions of the synthesis problem of a linear antenna is investigated. The solutions of this equation can vanish at [-1,1]. These solutions can be written in analytical form as a function with finite number of real and complex parameters. These parameters are calculated from a set of transcendental equations.

Performance characteristics of rectangular waveguide-based passive phased arrays of both reflection and tranmission types are analyzed. The reflection and the transmission factors of such structures are investigated in dependence on the problem geometry parameters. It has been shown that passive rectangular waveguide-based arrays can be employed to design radiation sources of hybrid reflector antennas.

Within the framework of the uniform geometrical theory of diffraction (UGTD) the author analyzes the spatial field distribution for corner-reflector antennas having various combination of widths and heights of the reflecting surfaces. Numerical analysis has proved the possibility of decreasing the lateral radiation level by choosing an appropriate ratio of corner sides.

Effective impedance boundary conditions for acoustic and electromagnetic scattering in a thin unbounded curved layer with different surface impedances are considered. Explicit forms of the first-order approximate boundary conditions are derived for a two-dimensional case. The methodology of investigation is based on the method of matched asymptotic expansions with the thickness-to-diameter ratio as the perturbation parameter.

A numerical solution of the initial boundary value problem for the heat equation has a great significance as regards the number of applications in engineering sciences. This problem arises also at the solution of the inverse boundary value problems in thermal tomography. The approximate solution can be found with the boundary integral equations method which may be used in the diverse variants. We combine the Cayley transform and the boundary integral equations for the numerical solution of the interior initial boundary value problem for the heat equation.

On the basis of the parabolic approximation the spreading of uniformly excited (on the aperture) elastic wave beams is investigated. The method of presentation of the excitation as a superposition of Gaussian beams is used. The effect of the nearfield oscillation of the amplitude and phase of the elastic wave beams is accounted for.

One approach of solving the synthesis problem of the microstrip antenna array according to the prescribed magnitude pattern is considered. The mutual coupling of the radiators is taken into account in approximation of the given current distribution on the radiators. The synthesis problem of the finite antenna array consists in determining such amplitude-phase distribution of voltages on the entrances of array elements which create the amplitude directivity pattern (DP) arbitrary close to the given one. The Tichonov functional is used as optimization criterion. It characterizes the mean-square component deviation of the given and synthesized amplitudes DP and put the limitations on the norm of the excitation sources of the array. Further, the finding of the solutions, investigations of their quantity and qualitative characteristics are reduced to the numerical solving and research of the Euler equation for the considered functional.

The resonance scattering of plane sound waves from a circular cylindrical thin elastic shell with a vacuum inside is investigated. The R-matrix method for suppression of the background contribution in the total form-function and for extraction of the spectral information (positions and widths of the spectral lines) is used. The resonance characteristics of the multipole order m=2 are analyzed in detail. The singularities which permit to distinguish the numerical resonance parameters for sound scattering from cylindrical and spherical elastic shells are discussed.
