Sustainability reporting is one of the latest trends that shape corporate reporting practices in the current business climate. With the advent of globalization, firms have begun to report environmental, ethical, social responsibility and human resource policies. Non-financial information that can enhance the quality of investment decisions is disclosed in sustainability reports. This paper aims to analyze the association between sustainability reporting and corporate attributes using a sample that includes 106 firms operating in Turkey. Using pooled cross-sectional logistic regression analysis, the empirical findings reveal that firm size, profitability, leverage, board independency and industry membership are important corporate attributes affecting the decision to issue sustainability report. The empirical findings of this paper are expected to provide valuable insights regarding sustainability reporting practices for stakeholders.

The main objective of this study is to examine the influence of foreign ownership on the environmental information disclosure in oil palm industry in Indonesia. Foreign investors are divided into three categories: (i) investors from neighbouring countries involving Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Brunei; (ii) investors from European Union; and (iii) investors from other countries. The samples of this study consist of oil palm companies listed in the Indonesian Stock Exchange from the years 2013 until 2017. The total sample includes the observation of 100 oil palm companies for 5 years. Environmental information disclosure was taken through the content analysis method from the companies’ annual reports. This study tested the hypothesis using panel data analysis. One of the contributions of this study is in proving the companies’ management carried out different reporting strategies when dealing with investors of different categories. The management used legitimacy strategy when dealing with investors from the European Union as they are the countries that give most pressure to the oil palm industry. However, they withhold reporting of certain information when dealing with investors from other countries. The finding of this study is significant in the efforts to improve the sustainability of oil palm industry. This is proven by the finding of this study that the categories of investor have influence on the transparency of reporting and help monitor companies’ activity that may harm the environment. This finding is also important in developing policy(ies) regarding foreign investment not only for oil palm to get access to source of capital but also to tackle the issue of pollution.

The purpose of this paper is to identify the relationships between dimensions of internationalisation on balanced scorecard (BSC), among Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Internationalisation covers the dimensions of knowledge, trust and commitment. Internationalisation can benefit the firm performance of SMEs in Malaysia which is measured using balanced scorecard, by increasing the involvement of SMEs in international business. A sample of 404 data was considered as the final sample size for this study. By using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM), the dimensions of internationalisation were observed to test the hypotheses. The results indicate that internationalisation as a whole does not have a role in the results of BSC among Malaysian SMEs. However, this also indicates that internationalisation is useful to reach the firm performance mostly in larger organisations because they require more strategic internationalisation to be more triumphant over their rivals which the larger organisations have. Furthermore, most SMEs in Malaysia are relatively new and being mostly family enterprises, these SMEs in Malaysia are more knowledgeable to perform domestic business. Therefore, this research conveys an understanding to the owners and managers to quickly achieve BSC results. Finally, this study brings some conclusions to the policy makers and regulators as well

This study aims to investigate the association between board characteristics and firm value taking into consideration the role of investors’ confidence. The subject of corporate governance is still of interest to researchers and practitioners due to its importance and the complexities surrounding it. This is because there are many elements that may interplay with corporate governance in influencing the value of firms. Despite abundance of research on the effect of board characteristics on firm’s value, the empirical evidences are still inconclusive. One of the consequences of having good governance as evidenced by many empirical research is the higher firm value. The agency theory explains this relationship such that good governance reduces agency cost, increasing investors’ confidence on the firm, hence its value. This explanation indicates that the influence of good governance on the firm’s value could be due to its effect on investors’ confidence. This study extends the understanding on the relationship between corporate governance and firm value by investigating the role of investors’ confidence on this relationship. Companies listed on Main Board of Bursa Malaysia are selected as sample using proportionate stratified random sampling method. The results demonstrate that CEO duality and board independence significantly related to firm value consistent with prior studies. The analysis on the role of investors’ confidence in the relationship between board characteristics and firm value indicates that investors’ confidence plays significant role in the relationship between CEO duality and firm value. The results provide input to firms on factors that contribute to firm value and to relevant authority on the important aspect of corporate governance.

This paper examined corporate governance and financial statements manipulation in Nigeria, using the Beneish model. To this end, the Beneish Model was employed to predict the likelihood of financial statements manipulation among the companies in Nigeria while the role of corporate governance variables to this manipulation was examined, using logistic regression analysis. In specific terms, the corporate governance variables of Board Composition , Board Gender Composition , Audit Committee Composition, and Board Dominance were examined as determinants. The data used were extracted from sixty-five (65) quoted companies in the Nigeria Stock Exchange for a 6-year period of 2009-2014.This period a near-crash in the Nigerian stock market with the consequential low ebb in economic activities in Nigeria. Preliminary analysis reveals that most of the companies quoted in the Nigeria Stock Exchange and sampled for this study, based on the Beneish Model, have the probability of manipulating their annual financial statements. Furthermore, results revealed that an increase in the Board Composition defined in the proportion of the Non-Executive Director (NED) on the Board, will increase the likelihood of detecting, preventing and investigating financial statements manipulation in the quoted companies in Nigeria. In addition, it was discovered that, in the Board Gender Composition, an increase in the proportion of female gender in the entire board will increase the likelihood of detecting, preventing and investigating financial statements manipulation. Meanwhile, it was revealed that an increase in the effectiveness and efficiency of the composition of the audit committee may reduce the likelihood of financial statements manipulation in Nigeria companies. Lastly, it was discovered that a decrease in Board Dominance will increase the likelihood of detecting, preventing and investigating misstatements in the annual financial statements of Nigeria companies. It is recommended.in the meantime, to use the Beneish model as a norm to assess the possibility of financial statements manipulation. More stringent measures, such as whistleblowing, ethics, value system, zero tolerance to fraud, just to mention a few, are to be effectively enforced by external regulatory authorities (such as Central Bank of Nigeria, Securities and Exchange Commission and the Nigerian Stock Exchange) to control the activities of the company’s board of directors, as well as the application of Beneish model, would aid the detection of financial statements manipulation.

Practically, business leaders are open to new approaches, develop and gain support for team vision, implement and execute a strategy effectively.
