A model for professional counselors to integrate multiculturalism and social justice into correctional settings 专业咨询师将多元文化主义与社会正义融入惩教环境的模式

The purpose of this study was to develop a theoretical model for how counselors integrate multicultural and social justice competency into their work with persons who have offended. A qualitative grounded theory tradition was used to generate an inductive theoretical model for integrating the Multicultural and Social Justice Counseling Competencies (MSJCC) into correctional settings. Participants (n = 16) were professional counselors recruited through counseling listservs and snowball sampling who work in prison, residential, jail, private practice, and community mental health settings. The findings revealed the need for ongoing training, multicultural and social justice awareness, and knowledge about structural barriers and systemic oppression.

The authors examined the efficacy of online anger management psychoeducation for justice-involved youth. Results indicated a statistically significant decrease in the adolescent anger rating scale for juveniles who completed the mandated program, prompting consideration of online modalities in postpandemic services.

Predictors of social intelligence, empathy, and self-efficacy among sexual offenders 性犯罪者社会智力、共情和自我效能的预测因子
IF 1.6 Q4 PSYCHOLOGY, APPLIED Pub Date : 2022-03-07 DOI: 10.1002/jaoc.12098
Angie D. Cartwright, Casey A. Barrio Minton, Ana G. Reyes, Meagan Abernathy, Kerin K. Groves

The authors aimed to assess the predictive nature of social intelligence, empathy, general self-efficacy (GSE), time in counseling, and risk-level in a sample of sexual offenders receiving counseling services (n = 151). No mean differences in variables were observed on the basis of victim type, offense type, or risk level. Linear regression models indicated that study variables accounted for 22% of the variance in social intelligence and 13% of the variance in empathy. In both models, GSE emerged as the strongest predictor after accounting for other variables.
