Given the prevalence of substance use disorders in individuals with visual disabilities, counselors must be prepared to address the distinctive needs of this population. The authors summarize evidence-based interventions, offer contextual considerations, and provide recommendations for counselors.
Using a phenomenological approach, the authors explored the lived experiences of female counselors who were pregnant during the course of providing clinical services to sex offenders. Themes included awareness of countertransference, emotional distress, safety concerns, and clinical objectivity.
Colleges are often substance-saturated environments, creating challenges for students trying to maintain recovery from substance use disorders. Using phenomenological method, this study sought to enhance understanding of the experiences of college students in recovery. Findings include 6 main themes that describe the experiences of participants, and implications for professional counselors are delineated from these findings.
This randomized controlled study evaluated the efficacy of a web-based program alone and in combination with a parent campaign among 9th-grade students (N = 205). Results indicate lower drinking rates in both programs compared with traditional education for female students.

The authors examined the perception of college students from Greek organizations on the effectiveness of an alcohol intervention program that included gender-specific programming. Significant reductions in risky alcohol use were found in men who attended and evaluated the program as helpful.
