This paper presents a GIS-based method for landslide susceptibility (LS) assessment using slope-movement inventory and field data. The study has been carried out along A1-Highway (A1-H) in Hanif region as this road section is threated by several types of mass wasting. This hilly zone is known by their landslides sensitive terrains in the North of Algeria. The terrain data are collected from a Géologic map, satellite imageries, digital elevation model, rainfall data, field suveys and ancillary data. In this paper Frequency Ratios (FR) based on bivariate statistical method are evaluated by comparing the observed landslides to their controlling factors. The product of the linear summation of the FR values was a landslide susceptibility index (LSI) map. It was categorized using the natural breaks classification method. The resultant LS zonation map delineates the area into five hierarchic zones. The results confirms that the angle of the slope, plays the most role in wasting especially in road sides. The LS can be used for preliminary land use planning and hazard mitigation purpose. By means of this map the current route of the A1-H can be improved to cross less susceptibles zones.

The mining sector is one of the most important elements of economies in the world, having a huge impact on the economic situation in individual countries. An economy’s development at any level would be impossible without access to the most important energy resources, chemicals, metals or construction materials. Therefore, the condition and the possibility of the development of the mining sector in each country should be constantly monitored and properly shaped. On the other hand, to ensure the proper stimulation of growth and the inflow of new capital, investments are necessary. Consequently, an appropriate level of investment attractiveness is an important issue both in the context of the sector and the entire economy. The article presents the concept of investment attractiveness and the current situation of the mining sector in Poland. The paper’s results are based on a survey of factors, barriers and conditions that affect the attractiveness of mining investment in Poland.

The selection of the mining method is one of the most crucial decisions in the stage of designing mines. This depends on some underlying parameters such as economic, technical and efficiency properties. The parameters may be collected and examined in a wide range of methods including core drilling and developmental planning of an active mine. The process of selecting the mining method can be described as multi-criterion decision-making due to the several factors involved in the evaluation process. Through the multi-criterion decision-making, the structure of problems is analyzed. However, multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) is often criticized because of its inability to handle uncertain and imprecise problems. Thus, the fuzzy decision-making is proposed as a powerful tool. Therefore in this paper, the fuzzy technique for order performance by similarity to ideal solution (Fuzzy TOPSIS) is used to select the best mining method among square-set stoping, cut-and-fill stoping, shrinkage stoping and sublevel stoping at the Kamar Mahdi fluorine mine based on 14 criteria such as deposit thickness, deposit dip, grade distribution, joint spacing in deposit and hanging wall as well as the cost of mining. Other criteria with the same importance for the four alternatives are neglected. Finally, the alternatives are ranked and the shrinkage stoping is proposed as the optimal mining method for this mine.

Aiming at the deformation characteristics and the support problem of deep high stress broken-expand surrounding rock, the secondary support of the deep roadway engineering of Fenglong coal mine in Jiangxi Province, China, is carried out to optimize the parameters. First of all, according to the characteristics of deep roadway deformation in Fenglong coal mine, the specific support scheme was put forward on the basis of the original support, then, the secondary support parameters and the support time are designed. The softening strength parameters of the surrounding rock in the roadway are obtained by using the piecewise linear strain softening model and the dilatancy angle of the rock mass. Considering the strength effect of cable anchor, the calculation equation and support strength index ID concept of anchor cable are put forward, and the corrected calculation parameters of anchorage effect are given. Then, the numerical calculation is carried out for 16 schemes, meanwhile, the optimal scheme of the comprehensive evaluation index Es of roadway engineering stability is adopted. The influence of different anchoring effect on the stability of roadway and different secondary displacement value on the stability of roadway are analyzed respectively. Finally, the optimized support scheme is used to carry out the engineering practice, the results of monitoring the deformation of roadway by cross method show that the deformation value is within the controllable range, which can better control the roadway deformation.

Several sinkhole collapses were occurred in the many sites in urban areas and/or their rural periphery; in NE Algeria, in the last few years. The abrupt collapse causes damages to properties, infra-structures, and even lives. The most spectacular oneoccurred in February 2009 inside the Cheria city, Northwest of Tebessa department, with a diameter of more than a hundred meters. This abrupt collapse is due to a sudden rupture of the roof of a large underground karst cavity. It caused panic-stricken among the population living near the crater. In order to investigate the origin of this phenomenon, we combine several geophysical and geotechnical methods, such as Ground Penetrating Radar, Electrical Resistivity Tomography, Standard Penetration Test, Mechanical Drill Core, Cave Survey Photogrammetry, etc. It appears that each method may provide specific information. Their comparison allows to precise the results itself, the limits and the application field of each. Consequently a number of open karst voids and disturbed areas were detected in the study area. The results show that sinkholes originate from two different processes: a brutal collapse of karst voids located at shallow depth, by agravitational effect especially building surcharge on top of limestone. And progressive piping and erosion of the thick gravel cover, especially after storms making large depressions. The drawdown of the aquifer following intense pumping could have accelerated these processes. The extension plans of the study area could be established with this methodical acquaintance of the underground conditions of the karst cavities such as: occurrence, depth, geometry and dimensions.
