Aim: Studies on the relationship between cardiovascular disease risk level and cardiovascular disease risk factors knowledge levels are limited in the literature. Our study mainly aimed to determine the cardiovascular diseases risk level and the cardiovascular disease risk factors knowledge level of the individuals. Methods: Males between the ages of 40 and 65, being informed about the study and agreed to participate in the study, and having cholesterol values checked in the last 3 months were included in the study. A demographic data questionnaire and Cardiovascular Diseases Risk Factors Knowledge Level Scale was administered to the participants by the researcher using the face-to-face interview technique. The cardiovascular risk score is calculated on the SCORE chart. SPSS 20.0 package program was used to evaluate the research data. Results: A total of 390 male participants were included in the study. The mean SCORE risk value of the patients was 4.79±4.01. The scores were obtained from the Cardiovascular Diseases Risk Factors Knowledge Level scale with a mean of 18.91±3.83 and a median of 19. Educational status and monthly income were found to be effective on the Cardiovascular Diseases Risk Factors Knowledge Level scale score in the model. It was determined that there was a very weak negative correlation between the SCORE Risk Scores and the Cardiovascular Diseases Risk Factors Knowledge Level scale scores of the patients, but it was not statistically significant. Conclusion: For the patients whose Cardiovascular Diseases Risk Factors Knowledge Level scale mean scores are below the median level attention can be paid to the importance and priority of raising awareness on CVD risk factors. Keywords: risk factors for cardiovascular disease, knowledge, risk management

Aim: We aimed to underline the importance of “normal weight obesity concept”, prevent the overlooking of Normal Weight Obesity patients, administrate their treatments and explain them the risks regarding their future lives along with making emphasis on the necessity of change in polyclinical practices about the subject. Methods: We selected 200 female patients that were either normal or overweighted for this study. Patients have been divided into 4 groups with respect to their body mass index and body fat percent values. Differences of bioelectrical impedance analysis measurements between the groups, relation of the anthropometric and metabolic parameters and those parameters’ inner correlations have been inspected. Results: Serum levels of fasting plasma glucose, insulin, HOMA-IR, total cholesterol, LDL, triglyceride and TSH were higher in “Normal Weight Obesity” subjects than “Normal Weight Lean” subjects. The mean LDL levels were found to be higher in the Normal Weight Obesity group compared to the other groups and it was found to be statistically significant. Body fat percent was positively correlated to insulin, HOMA-IR, visceral fat rating, waist – hip circumferences, waist to height – hip to height ratios. Conclusion: The importance of measurement of body fat percent and not to overlook the Normal Weight Obesity patients should be emphasized once more. Therefore, in the primary care, during public screening and polyclinical assessment states, patients should be checked for obesity with not only measuring their weights and heights, but also detection of their detailed body composition. Keywords: obesity, body fat distribution, waist to height ratio

Aim: The aim of the study is to examine the level of stress and coping strategies of dentistry students in Türkiye in terms of variables such as sleep, personality, alcohol consumption, and smoking. Methods: A questionnaire including socio-demographic questions, Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale, and COPE Inventory was administered to 293 students. Results: The students' Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale scores were 13.88±10.03, 14.60±8.98, and 19.41±9.64, respectively. Income perception and the dentistry-personality relationship were the largest stress factors. No significant difference was found between years in terms of stress level. Problem-focus and emotional-focus coping strategies were negatively correlated, while less-useful coping strategies showed positive correlation with Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale scores. While the students who reported their sleep duration as "adequate" showed high problem-focus and emotional-focus coping scores, they had low less-useful coping strategies and Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale scores. The students who deemed dentistry suitable for their personality had higher problem-focus and emotional-focus coping scores and lower low less-useful coping strategies scores. Although alcohol consumption and smoking were unrelated to stress, they showed positive correlation with low less-useful coping strategies scores. Conclusion: No difference was observed between the level and sources of Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale and the grade. Students utilizing effective coping strategies had lower stress than those using less-useful coping strategies. Therefore, dental education should include how to acquire and use effective coping strategies. Keywords: depression, anxiety, coping strategies, dentistry, dental education
