Background. The purpose of the study was to analyze the results of the implementation of state programs for the prevention of major dental diseases, dental caries and periodontal diseases, in the Republic of Belarus. Materials and methods. Generalization of studies on the epidemiology of dental caries and periodontal diseases among children and adults in Belarus. Results. The first state program for the primary prevention of dental diseases in children, developed by professor E.M. Melnichenko in 1986, together with the updated version of 1998, was effective in reducing the prevalence of dental caries in the key age group of 12-year-old children by 20 % from the baseline level; the national prevention program made it possible to achieve the decayed, missing and filled teeth index of 2.4. Conclusions. The experience of practical implementation of the state program for the prevention of dental diseases in the Republic of Belarus was positive due to the use of evidence-based methods recommended by the World Health Organization.

The article presents an analysis of the results of state and sectoral statistical reports of dental healthcare institutions, which were submitted to the State Institution “Center for Medical Statistics of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine” in 2020. As of January 1, 2021, 22,180 general dental practitioners and 766 dentists provided dental care to the population of Ukraine in 6,443 institutions of various forms of ownership. The article pre-sents the structure, staffing level and dentistry personnel density in Ukraine; also, a comparative analysis for the last 5 years was conducted in terms of staffing level of dentists working in healthcare institutions of different forms of ownership. The main indicators of the system of providing dental care in both public and private healthcare facilities are presented. A comparative analysis with the main indicators of dental care for 2019 was carried out. The number of routine examinations of the oral cavity decreases and the number of malignant neoplasms, especially advanced ones, increases.

The introduction of innovative technologies in dentistry, the development of the dental industry as a science not only leads to a change in approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, a significant improvement in the results and quality of life of patients but also induces continuous training of dentists. The NGO “Ukrainian Dental Association” held the 6th National Ukrainian Dental Congress “Innovative technologies in dentistry”, which aims to increase the professional competence of dentists.

Generalized periodontitis is one of the most common dental diseases that can lead to tooth mobility and tooth loss. Plaque is main etiological factor, but periodontitis is a multifactorial disease. There are data on the effect of vitamin D levels on generalized periodontitis. Vitamin D has a pleiotropic effect by affecting various links in the pathogenesis of generalized periodontitis. Stimulating the secretion of antimicrobial peptides, vitamin D increases local immunity and adversely affects periodontal pathogens; modulating the immune system, it affects inflammation in periodontal tissues and the immune response; increasing the absorption of calcium and reducing the release of parathyroid hormone, vitamin D stimulates bone mineralization. The high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency worldwide indicates the relevance of studying its effects on the human body in general and the oral cavity in particular.

The article describes the etiologic and pathogenic relationship of periodontopathogenic microbiota in patients with generalized periodontitis and cardiovascular disease development. The article presents the literature data and the results of own investigation regarding the direct impact of periodontal pathogens on cardiovascular disease etiology due to transitory bacteriemia. The article considers the pathogenetic relationship and the impact of infectious and inflammatory diseases in the oral cavity on the development of cardiovascular disease by stimulating the production of proinflammatory cytokines in periodontal tissues and C-reactive protein by the body.

Continuing professional development (CPD) has become the key to the progress of innovations and implementations in the practice of the dentist. Such a regulatory mechanism provides a balanced process of self-development and guarantees the predicted results of treatment based on evidence medicine. The purpose of this work is to cover the developed by the Association of Dentists of Ukraine and tested model of CPD organization at the regional level with national and international participation, adapted to quarantine requirements, and submitted in real time. This approach provides all CPD participants with appropriate theoretical and practical knowledge to preserve human dental health.

The gradual transformation of the health care system from April 1, 2020 impacted the reform of secondary (specialized) health care. Planning a model of hospital network transformation should take into account the needs of the population and ensure the creation of a multidisciplinary hospital with a focus on a patient. The article analyzes the human resources and infrastructure of medical institutions that provide dental care, including multidisciplinary hospitals. The main aspects that need to be taken into account when planning the transformation of the hospital network considering the interdisciplinary interaction of dentists, maxillofacial surgeons with general practitioners to improve the quality of care are also identified.

The article presents modern data on the features of the oral microbiome and its medical significance when prescribing systemic antibacterial therapy for infectious and inflammatory processes in the oral cavity. The main microbial associations in normal conditions, as well as in diseases of periodontal tissues and apical periodontitis are presented. The use of antibacterial drugs in dentistry is aimed at eliminating the etiological factor of the pathogenic microflora of the oral cavity. The effectiveness of the treatment depends on how well the doctor aware of the main pathogens and microbial associations in generalized periodontitis, periodontitis, a choice of optimal antibacterial agent, compliance with indications and contraindications upon treatment.
