Soil Maps Based on GIS and ALES-arid Model as Tools for Assessing Land Capability and Suitability in El-Sadat Region of Egypt 基于GIS和ALES干旱模型的土壤图作为评估埃及萨达特地区土地能力和适宜性的工具

HE SOIL in the El-Sadat region is considered one of the most promising places for land reclamation projects due to its location and the availability of the Nile River and groundwater resources for crop irrigation. This study aimed to create land capacity and suitability maps for certain crops (wheat, sugar beet, maize, peanut, potato, watermelon, olive, citrus and apple) by using ALES-arid program and GIS in the El-Sadat area of Egypt. For this purpose, 14 soil profile were excavated and collected of soil samples. Topographical and geological maps, land cover maps, demarcations, remote sensing images and climatic data were obtained and the main physical and chemical properties of the collected soil samples were analyzed. The gained information were developed through the ALES-arid software to obtain the land capability and suitability maps. Most of these soils were classified as Typic Torripsmments and only profile No. 5 was Typic Torriorthents, with loamy sand dominant texture. There are three geomorphic units (Plain, Elevated area and High Land) prevailing in the study area. According to ALES-arid program, the capability of lands in the studied area was divided into three classes of good (C2), fair (C3) and poor (C4).The occupancy rate for each class of the study area was 5.61, 48.47 and 45.92 % for C2, C3 and C4, respectively. Soil texture, cation exchange capacity, and permeability were the limiting parameters for land capability. The whole results indicated that, about 40.56, 30.96, 21.57 and 6.91 % of the studied area were highly suitable (S1), suitable (S2), moderately suitable (S3) and marginally suitable (S4) for agriculture, respectively. The main of suitability limitations in the studied area were soil texture, permeability and fertility. These limitations are not permanent and can be improved by applying appropriate management practices.

Interaction Features of Some Acid Ameliorants in the Process of Chemical Reclamation of Sodic Solonetz-Solonchaks Sodic Solonetz Solonchaks化学回收过程中几种酸性改进剂的相互作用特征

T he purpose of the study is to reveal the mechanisms of interaction of some acid ameliorants in the process of chemical reclamation of Sodic Solonetzes-Solonchaks (SSS). The experiments have been carried out within 2018-2020 under laboratory conditions using soil column techniques.13 soil samples have been collected from Ararat valley, Republic of Armenia. These soils have a high alkaline reaction (pH 9.5-10.5), a sodium exchangeable percentage (ESP 44.5-74.0%) and electrical conductivity (EC 12.4-42.2 dS cm-1).It has been shown, that in thecase of iron sulphate application the products of its hydrolysis promote soil dealkalization and improvement of soil physical properties due to creation of iron-clay complexes accumulated in the soil primarily in crystalline form (66-67 %). It has been revealed, that the penetration depth of 1% of sulphuric acid and iron sulphate solutions during the chemical reclamation is 8-12 cm, and the accumulation of gypsum in topsoil (0-12 cm) is observed. Due to thehigher solubility of magnesium sulphate in the process of acidification, soil dealkalization and the increase of filtration rate of soil solutions (10-12 cm day -1 ) are watched. During the soil leaching process, the newly-formed gypsum plays a major role in further dealkalization process of soils and regulation of exchangeable Ca and Mg relation in optimal range. It is shown, that in the process of acidification, the pressure of the formed carbon dioxide gas (CDG) in the soil may reach up to 2.2 atm, in which the solubility of calcium and magnesium carbonate are increased, and the share of CDG in soil dealkalization process is in average 50%. The results obtained allow for the opportunity to recommend improvements of SSS chemical reclamation technology.
