We use Eurobarometer data to examine barriers to international student mobility. Multivariate analysis is employed to study how individual characteristics are related to the obstacles preventing higher education students from participating in activities in another EU country. The results suggest that several demographic factors including area of residence, gender and age are associated with attitudinal, informational and financial barriers. These findings may help in the identification of measures to make international student mobility more inclusive.

AbstractThis paper uses data from PISA 2018 in Germany to explore how the students‘chronotype (known as larks and owls) and their academic achievement is related to truancy. We used an adapted version of the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire (MCTQ) to measure the students’ chronotype. The results demonstrate a correlation between the students’ social jet lag, student achievement, and truancy. Finally, we discuss the potential inclusion of chronotypes as a measure in large-scale international student assessments. Keywords: TruancychronotypesPISA 2018social jet lagstudent achievement Disclosure statementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).

AbstractIn Germany, penalties such as fines or police action are imposed for noncompliance with compulsory schooling. However, formal administrative procedures are often deemed inadequate by experts who advocate for school-wide multidimensional support in addressing school absenteeism. We analyze guidance documents of different federal states, examining their emphasis on formal and school-wide strategies. We specifically explore the report of Schleswig-Holstein to demonstrate the shifting focus from punitive measures to more supportive approaches in addressing absenteeism. AcknowledgementsWe are grateful for the language editing support of Andrew Kennedy and the valuable comments of anonymous reviewers.Disclosure StatementNo potential conflict of interest was reported by the author(s).Additional informationNotes on contributorsChiara EnderleChiara Enderle works as research associate and doctoral student at the Department of Special Education at Leipzig University. Gisela C.
