Satire and Humour in Jane Austen’s ‘Northanger Abbey’ 简·奥斯汀小说《诺桑觉寺》中的讽刺与幽默

Northanger Abbey’ is a commentary on as well as satire of the popular Gothic novels of Austen’s era. She was exploiting public interest in the creaky house, creaky older man and frightened virginal young heroine tropes of the era’s popular Gothic novel. As it is in one of the hardest novels of Austen, people miss its satire. Here, we get a brilliant satire on the ridiculousness of the events, settings, and emotions of gothic novels in general.

As the most influential contemporary American literary figure, Saul Bellow is the true picture of confusion and spiritual emptiness of western society. He, in his literary career, wrote a large number of novels, which won several awards including ‘Nobel Prize’. In his novels, Bellow explores modern living condition. He depicts urban intellectuals, especially the plight of American-Jewish intellectuals and is concerned about the real need and aspirations of the modern man.

Theoretical Review on the Dilemma of Chinese Preschoolers Cultural Identity According to Cultural Ethics 从文化伦理看中国学龄前儿童文化认同困境的理论回顾

The preschooler’s cultural identity is viewed as not only the foundation of the national identity and cultural security but also the educational goal of cultivating the modern Chinese citizen with cultural confidence. The current study examined the cultural identity of children aged 5 years, based on their own self-portraits. Thirty Children are asked to draw their self-portraits and were then asked to answer some questions focusing on their cultural identity. Among these children, one half with upper class family background were from a public kindergarten school located in the center of the city and the other half whose parents are from the floating population came from a private kindergarten located in a village. The two kindergarten schools located in Guangzhou carried out a curriculum characterized by Chinese traditional culture and they can therefore represent both ends of the Chinese kindergarten: high quality public kindergarten and inclusive private kindergarten. Qualitative analysis revealed that there were differences between the kids from the two kindergarten and migrant children in the city and they showed low cultural awareness especially about their mother’s cultures. Also children looked down upon their own playing culture under the adult’s cultural hegemony. These phenomena reflected disharmony of the three cultural levels which directly impacted the children’s cultural identity. To cultivate Chinese citizens with cultural confidence for the future, China needs to change the cultural ecology that belittles the childhood culture and its indigenous culture, to attach importance to children’s culture and children’s subjectivity in cultural identity, to be rooted in the children’s cultural origin and indigenous culture, and to transform the kindergarten curriculum according to the game spirit so as to provide the children with the early-stage environment that is in line with their learning interest, motivation and experience.

Belonging impacts identity which is derived from one’s ancestry and the society one lives in which is denied to orphans culminating in an Identity Crisis. Resolving this crisis involves a Quest that orphans get involved in. The aim of this research has been to: To highlight the plight of this invisible micro-minority, to give them a focus, a voice and recognition is the aim of this research. To observe, establish, determine, verify, apply and present the findings to the world of literature and society. This has been done through Research, Review of Literature, the use of Psychoanalysis in the works of Erikson, Franken, June Dwyer, Jules Chametzky, Daniel Fischer, Ostendorf etc. through records, Interviews, Case Histories and Surveys.

The Relation between the Work Motivation and Job Satisfaction of Secondary School Teachers 中学教师工作动机与工作满意度的关系

Work motivation is one of the major factors of job satisfaction. Teaching is a complex process of imparting knowledge. Teachers are solely responsible in bringing behavioral changes among children. Therefore teachers are essentially motivated to do their best by putting sincere and whole hearted effort in preparing future citizens. Job satisfaction depends on many factors and motivation it plays a dominant role. The quality of the work done by the teachers of any institution depends on the level of the satisfaction generated in their work. To get qualitative work from teachers the authorities need to motivate them to get satisfactory work from them.
