Inter-professional collaboration and knowledge management practices among clinical workforce in Federal Tertiary Hospitals in Nigeria 尼日利亚联邦三级医院临床工作人员之间的跨专业协作和知识管理做法

Effective health service delivery hinges on the interface between professionals rendering health services to the sick and the injured. This paper examined the inter-professional collaboration and knowledge management practices among the clinical workforce in Federal Tertiary Hospitals in three Geopolitical Zones of Nigeria. The study employed a non-experimental survey design. 550 questionnaires were administered out of which 479 were completed for analysis comprising 204 Medical Doctors, 180 Nurses and 95 Health Information Management Officers, which resulted into 87% response rate. Findings from the study revealed that knowledge acquisition was the most practiced, closely followed by knowledge application. In addition, cooperation was the most practiced form of inter-professional collaboration, next to it is partnership. The study revealed a significant relationship between inter-professional collaboration and knowledge management practices. It shows that only cooperation significantly influenced knowledge management practices while knowledge capturing and knowledge dissemination significantly influenced inter-professional collaboration. The study concluded that Federal Tertiary Hospitals in Nigeria will perform better if they can sustain the culture of knowledge management practices and inter-professional collaboration.

The influence of individual and organizational factors on readiness to accept online learning among higher education lecturers in Nigeria 个人和组织因素对尼日利亚高等教育讲师接受在线学习的意愿的影响

Information and communication technology have revolutionised many aspects of human interactions. One area which has received profound transformation is education and learning. Although technology-enhanced learning has widened access, and improved performance and quality; little has been achieved in many developing countries. The study is aimed at examining the predictors of readiness to accept online learning methods among faculty members (lecturers) in higher education institutions in Nigeria. Following the literature reviews, five factors (online learning attitude, online learning self-efficacy, management support, online content readiness and perceived benefit) were identified as the possible predictors of readiness to accept the online learning method. Using a sample of 277 valid respondents selected through proportional stratified sampling in 3 higher education institutions, it was found that online learning self-efficacy, management support, online content readiness and perceived benefit had statistically significant effects on readiness to accept online learning platforms among faculty members. Online learning attitude has no statistically significant effect on readiness to accept online learning methods. The study implies that faculty members (lecturers) who are confident in their ability to use the online learning method together with management support, institution E-content readiness and perception of benefit would accept the online learning method in teaching and learning.

Investigating K-12 teachers’ views on online education 调查中小学教师对网络教育的看法

This study examines school teachers’ views on online education. Online education that removes space and time constraints is becoming increasingly preferred. However, the immediate shift to online education brings some problems for teachers. The study investigated K-12 teachers’ views on online education by semi-structured online interviews with 33 school teachers from different geographic regions. Teachers’ responses indicated that they faced a variety of problems including technical issues, a lack of parental support, short course duration, student unwillingness to turn on webcams, and teacher inability to reach students (especially those turning off their webcams) in online lessons. The implication of the findings is also discussed.

Learner development through serial concept mapping 通过连续概念映射实现学习者发展

In this study, individual serial concept mapping was employed as a learning approach to demonstrate learner development over time. Participants (n = 22) individually completed serial concept maps consisting of five iterations. A highly structured peer feedback process was employed to support interaction within learners’ zone of proximal development. Learners’ perceptions regarding the development of personal knowledge, process knowledge, and content knowledge were discussed, indicating positive growth in all types of knowledge. Concept mapping with a highly structured feedback loop promoted higher-order thinking skills such as analyzing, evaluation, reflection, and creative thinking. The highly structured peer reviewed process was noted by the learners as influencing learners’ conceptual understanding and development of their serial concept map.

Using social mobile learning to stimulate idea generation for collective intelligence among higher education students 利用社交移动学习来激发高等教育学生集体智慧的创意

The importance of social networks has increased in recent decades, yet the use of social learning in higher education is nascent. Little is known how to foster high levels of social learning discourse among students in higher education classrooms. To address this gap, the present study analyses the use of a mobile application (Soqqle) for sharing student-generated content and peer-to-peer communication. Students from Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Indonesia uploaded videos linked to assessments and received feedback from their instructors and peers through social engagement features (e.g., comments, likes). The majority of students reported that the social learning experience promoted idea generation, increased creativity, and improved attention. These results indicate that integrating online platforms and mobile applications can promote social learning. The findings have important implications for educational practice because many educational institutions have adopted online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Associations between university students’ online learning preferences, readiness, and satisfaction 大学生在线学习偏好、准备程度与满意度的关系

The aim of this study was to examine the associations between the preferences, readiness, and satisfaction of freshman learners after taking online courses. The study group was comprised of Turkish students (892 females, 396 males) who attended their first-year classes at a public university. Participating students attended courses in different departments, but all took these courses for one year online. Data were analysed using optimal scaling analysis. Nonlinear canonical correlation analysis (OVERALS) was used as the variables examined were of different scale levels. According to our findings, learners who preferred face-to-face format were individuals with low levels of learner control, motivation, and satisfaction, and individuals who preferred the online format had high satisfaction levels. Individuals who preferred to take courses in a blended format had low or medium levels of self-directed learning, no previous online course experience, and a medium level of control.

Future-proofing students in higher education with unmanned aerial vehicles technology: A knowledge management case study 面向未来的无人机技术高等教育学生:一个知识管理案例研究

In this paper we report experiences in implementing a new course ‘Understanding Drone & Robotics Technology – History, Usage, Ethics & Legal Issues’ at the Singapore Management University framed as a strategic knowledge management (KM) initiative in an institution of higher learning aimed at capturing, sharing and creating new knowledge about disruptive technologies such as unmanned aerial vehicles. We posit the new course as a knowledge innovation initiative (similar to a KM-enabled business case in a corporate setting) in support of the university’s mission and vision so as to deliver new value to students and to stay ahead of the latest technological developments. In line with a ‘normal’ KM initiative, we examine how the new learning and teaching initiative was conceived, pushed forward and eventually launched, creating a new multi-disciplinary learning experience for students, instructors and other stakeholders. We explain the knowledge strategy of the course and use I. Nonaka’s SECI framework to shed light on selected aspects of the pedagogical approach towards achieving the desired learning outcomes. Overall, the paper intends to make a case for more collaborative knowledge leadership as a strategic enabler of multi-disciplinary knowledge innovation in a rapidly changing higher education landscape.

Identifying critical thinking skills used by experts versus novices to construct argument maps in a computer-aided mapping tool 识别专家与新手在计算机辅助制图工具中构建论证图时使用的批判性思维技能

Research shows that using computer-aided mapping tools improves critical thinking skills, but prior research provides limited evidence to show how the use of specific critical thinking skills increases map quality. This qualitative study observed 4 experts and 5 novices use a computer-aided mapping tool to construct argument maps. The analysis of video recordings with think-aloud protocols and retrospective interviews revealed the use of a five-step argument mapping process (read claims, position conclusion, position claims, link claims, revise links) with the experts using a more sequential application of the five-step process and producing more accurate maps than novices. The novices showed the tendency to position and link claims as a joint action, making map revision more cumbersome. The experts exhibited the tendency to work backward from conclusion to claim while the novices exhibited the reverse tendency. This study’s findings identify processes that differentiate experts from novices and validate specific thinking skills that can be used to improve map quality, and how these processes can be operationalized in terms of discrete mapping behaviors performed on screen that can be mined and analyzed in mapping tools to assess and diagnose students’ mapping skills.

Analysing student behaviour in a learning management system using a process mining approach 使用流程挖掘方法分析学习管理系统中的学生行为

Online learning implementation has been growing year by year across countries, including Indonesia. Many higher education institutions use a Learning Management System (LMS) to facilitate online learning. Unfortunately, many issues arise during online learning implementation, such as a lack of student behaviour monitoring. This study adopts an educational process mining technique to conduct weekly assessments of student behaviour during one semester. The study was undertaken in the following steps: problem identification, literature review, design of study context, log data collection from LMS, log data filtering, event data grouping, conversion of LMS logs to event logs, clustering, and process model discovery. The following findings were revealed in this research: the most frequently accessed features were course material, assignments, and forums; students accessed the LMS most frequently on lecture days; the number of student activities decreased in line with fewer instructions from lecturers; students who attained the best grades most frequently accessed the LMS, and vice versa; and high-achieving students had a more complex process model than other students. Therefore, this research suggests that systematic teaching strategies have a broader impact on student engagement and performance.

Investigation of a Chinese character writing app: Learners’ perspectives 一款汉字书写应用的调查:学习者的视角

Many people who learn Chinese as a foreign language (CFL) have encountered challenges when it comes to character writing. This was a follow-up study of our quantitative study in 2019 that showed that mobile app was a significantly more effective method than pen-and-paper method to learn Chinese character writing. Thirty beginning CFL learners participated in this study. Surveys and interviews were conducted to seek their perspectives on the role of stroke order knowledge, the use of the mobile app in Chinese writing, and suggested ways to teach Chinese character writing. As shown in the results, findings demonstrated that the participants recognized the value of the app in their character learning. They held the view that stroke order not only plays an important role in Chinese writing, but also should be emphasized at the beginning level. Although the use of the app was favored, compared with the conventional pen-paper method, a mixed method of both was suggested for pedagogical practices.
