School Counselor Educators’ Experiences Navigating Practicum and Internship During COVID-19 COVID - 19期间学校辅导员和教育工作者的实践和实习经验

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted many counselor education programs. We interviewed 10 school counselor educators to explore their experiences navigating practicum and internship experiences during the pandemic. We identified five themes: (a) supporting SCITs, (b) decision-making, (c) rethinking clinical experiences, (d) preparedness, and (e) gatekeeping. We discuss implications for student training and research.

Online teaching and learning has become increasingly prevalent in counselor education, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. We conducted a content analysis on the frequency, type, and topics for 48 articles of online teaching and learning published from 1998 to 2020 in 26 counseling journals. Implications for online counselor education and future research are provided.

The authors conducted a thematic analysis of interviews with nine faculty who teach career counseling with an emphasis on advocacy and social justice. Participants spoke of their motivations for teaching the course, their strategies to engender excitement about this specialty, and barriers in framing the course through an advocacy lens.

Despite broad professional and empirical support, wellness and wellness counseling remain largely absent from counselor preparation standards and ethical codes. In this conceptual examination, the authors summarize the current state of these concepts, providing concrete suggestions to enhance these documents and utilize wellness competencies to advance counseling research and practices.

Experiencing the reality of empathy 体验移情的现实

This pretest/posttest experimental design study investigated the use of virtual reality to teach school counseling students empathy, as measured by the Empathy Quotient. An independent samples and paired-samples t-test were used to analyze students’ scores in the experimental and control groups. The study's results are discussed.

Promoting Wellness in Counselors-in-Training: Impact of a Wellness Experiential Group 在辅导员培训中促进健康:健康体验小组的影响

We investigated the effectiveness of a 5-week wellness group curriculum for counselors-in-training (N = 60). A repeated measures multivariate analysis of variance was conducted to evaluate whether the curriculum positively affected perceived wellness among participants. The results showed statistically significant differences in scores, indicating a higher level of wellness after the intervention.

Latinx individuals represent one of the fastest growing cultural identities in the United States. The hegemony of White Eurocentrism in traditional counselor education requires programs to innovate to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to address the mental health needs of Latinx-identifying clients. This article outlines the steps taken by one clinical mental health counseling program to design and implement a Latinx counseling concentration within the existing curriculum. Outcomes achieved and lessons learned in the first 3 years are offered as recommendations to other institutions recognizing the need for a similar concentration within their counselor preparation programs.
