This study aims to develop a conceptual framework to identify the readiness of SMEs to implement the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in connection to Change efficacy, change valence and contextual factors, and Management Support. The study proposed a conceptual model adopted and modified from the work of Wainer (2009) by considering the implementation strategy. It is expected that the readiness will be enhanced. Moreover, non-implementation of the standards will make the comparability of financial statements of SMEs among countries difficult for investment analysis. Based on the literature reviewed, we have used the organizational readiness for change theory to conceptualize the relationship between the variables. Most previous studies considered only the direct connection between the variables and in listed entities. The goal of this study is to add to the existing body of knowledge, enable owners of SMEs to know the level of readiness in terms of IFRS implementation and regulators & the standard-setting bodies to use this information to detect the information of the entities which are reluctant or ready to implement the IFRS for SMEs.

The Paris Agreement's global decarbonization drive has heightened the need for sustainable energy options, shifting focus away from fossil fuels. Copper, a crucial metal in this transition, will face increased demand, necessitating deeper opencut mines. However, this poses issues as traditional fuel-intensive trucks used for mine haulage result in substantial Scope 1 emissions and rising operational costs. This study addresses the urgency to explore alternative mine haulage systems that minimize fuel consumption and associated emissions while maintaining economic viability. It evaluates potential systems at "The Copper Pit," a Latin American copper mine, based on capital cost, operating cost, flexibility, safety, technological readiness, and emission abatement potential. Using the Analytical Hierarchy Method, weightage values for each criterion are calculated, resulting in a prioritized ranking table. Trolley Assist truck haulage emerges as the most promising alternative, showcasing impressive savings of up to 87% in fuel consumption and associated emissions, and an 80% reduction in running costs. Economic advantages are affected by diesel and power prices, with the carbon tax having the smallest impact. The study recommends a feasibility study for Trolley Assist implementation in the Copper Pit and a staged approach to minimize risks. Despite being less flexible and requiring upfront capital, Trolley Assist holds promise for deep copper mines, significantly reducing emissions and operating costs, ensuring sustainable and profitable mining operations.

With the advent of Fintech financing, innovativeness plays a significant role in enhancing Small and medium-sized enterprises' (SMEs) access to financing. Three comprehensive constructs, namely, market orientation, learning orientation and technology orientation, are adopted to present a holistic picture of the effect of strategic orientation on Malaysian SMEs’ access to Fintech financing, moderated by entrepreneurial innovativeness. This study adopted a survey research design based on 221 Malaysian SMEs. The results indicate that strategic orientation influence SMEs’ access to Fintech financing. This research examines the effects of banking competition and market structure on the financial health and integrity of the Nigerian commercial banks from 2010 to 2020. The measures of concentration k-bank concentration ratio (CRk) and Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI), respectively, are used in this study to analyses competition and market structure. This research employs a panel static model that combines panel ordinary least squares, a fixed effect model, a random effect model, and a dynamic GMM model to evaluate the empirical model. The results show that the Nigerian banking market is moderately concentrated as measured by the Concentration Ratio-CR5 and the Herfindahl-Hirschman indexes-HHI, with significant disparities in market power among market competitors. The Nigerian commercial banks operate in a monopolistically competitive environment (monopolistic competition), based on conventional qualities that exist between various market structures. The findings also revealed a strong inverse relationship between Nigerian commercial banks' profitability and banking competition. To protect competition between commercial banks in Nigeria there is the need for the regulatory authorities to be cautious of efforts that may increase market concentration of commercial banks in Nigeria.

Following the global financial crisis, corporate governance has become a focal point for scholars, economists, regulators, and governments. While many authors have conducted studies on the relationship between corporate governance and financial performance, there are still inconsistent or uncertain results regarding the impact of corporate governance mechanisms, such as board characteristics, ownership structure, and ownership concentration, on financial performance. As fintech innovation has emerged as a new trend in economic development, it has also become an important factor that affects corporate governance and performance. Therefore, this study aims to explain the effect of fintech innovation as a moderator in the relationship between corporate governance mechanisms (board characteristics, ownership structure, and ownership concentration) and financial performance. The study utilizes panel data analysis and covers a sample of 4592 firms listed on the Shenzhen and Shanghai stock exchanges from 2010 to 2022.

Accounting literature noted that distinct political and cultural traits influence the management of regulatory risks, the culture of compliance, and the market value of firms in emerging economies like Malaysia; these influences are further compounded by microeconomic and macroeconomic factors. Hence, this paper presents a conceptual framework and model specification to investigate whether governance disclosure quality promotes the market value of publicly listed firms in Malaysian context. This effort is part of a larger initiative to demonstrate the potential economic benefits of enhancing corporate governance disclosure and transparency. In essence, this paper provides an overview of the research context, establishes the problem statement. Then, a review of literature is undertaken to identify areas where further research is needed. Subsequently, this paper presents the theoretical perspectives, which serve as the foundation for the development of hypotheses. The was followed by an explanation on the research methodology, including the conceptual framework and the specification of the model. Lastly, a description of the research data and the analysis techniques are presented. Essentially, the findings from this study are expected to provide publicly listed companies with insights into the possible economic justification for allocating resources and demonstrating commitment towards improving the quality of governance disclosure. The results of this study are also anticipated to enhance the understanding of regulatory bodies in their drive to better facilitate corporate governance reporting endeavours.

This study explores the performance of the utilities sector in Malaysia amidst the outbreak of COVID-19 and the subsequent implementation of movement control orders (MCOs). Despite concerns over the devastating effects of restricted MCOs on Malaysia's economy, this research focuses on the utilities sector as a defensive investment. A population of 12 listed utilities firms is analysed using paired sample t-tests to examine the sector's performance in relation to MCOs. The empirical findings provide compelling evidence of the negative impact of the epidemic disease outbreak on the utilities sector in Malaysia. This study contributes to the existing literature on the effects of a dreaded disease on the utilities sector and provides valuable insights for investors on defensive investments during unpredictable events.

The mixed performance of the Nigerian economy despite various deliberate policies and programmes by successive governments has long been a matter of concern to all including policymakers, and academics. Different scholars attributed the mixed performance to different reasons and thus proffer varying suggestions. Those that blamed the performance on insufficient investment suggested a deliberate effort to attract more foreign capital inflow, while proponents of openness were of the view that more external trade is required to spur economic growth. Both groups contend that robust domestic investment, foreign capital inflow, and international trade have the potential to enhance economic growth. This study attempts to examine the impact of both investment inflow and international trade on economic growth in Nigeria covering the period of indirect monetary policy by the Central Bank of Nigeria from 1993Q1 to 2022Q3 using the Dynamic Autoregressive Distributed Lag approach. The study also explores the impact of the global financial crisis on the relationship by further disentangling the study period into two (“pre-GFC” and “post-GFC” eras). The study finds that while foreign capital inflows is an important determinant of economic growth in Nigeria during the study period, international trade only positively affects growth after the global financial crisis. The study recommends that the Nigerian government should make efforts to attract more foreign investments, particularly in the non-oil economy.
