Depuis trente ans, les milieux d’altitude europeens constituent un cadre novateur de recherche sur les dynamiques des systemes pastoraux des espaces de montagne dans la longue duree. Les differentes equipes de recherche impliquees dans ces travaux se trouvent confrontees au probleme de l’acquisition de l’information primaire lors de la phase de prospection. Acceder a une information archeologique qui soit la plus complete possible dans un temps relativement court est l’enjeu de la phase de prospection en milieu d’altitude. Le programme de recherche TAHMM (Teledetection Archeologique en Haute et Moyenne Montagne) a pour objectif de reviser les methodes de detection des structures archeologiques de ces milieux en deployant differentes methodes non invasives, du satellite a l’analyse chimique des sols, pour mettre en place une approche integree multi-source, multi-echelle et multi-temporelle. Etablir de nouvelles procedures de prospection demande egalement de pousser plus avant l’analyse de l’information et souvent de sortir des schemas trop stricts des formats proprietaires. Le present article exposera les premiers resultats du travail de refonte de la chaine de traitement et d’analyse des images thermiques acquises par drone sur des sites pastoraux d’altitude en s’appuyant sur des tests realises en 2018.

Provenancing turquoise: a difficult task 普罗旺斯绿松石:一项艰巨的任务

Turquoise is a blue-green phosphate gem used for millennia in the lapidary artwork of numerous past societies. It was one of the first gemstones, and has proved to be a valuable material that was part of long-distance exchange networks on every continent where it is available. Nonetheless, provenance studies for this material is absent from gemological literature, and scarce in the archaeological literature. This work reviews the mineralogy, geology, geographical and archaeological distribution of this gemstone, and presents different mineralogical, geochemical and spectroscopic approaches used in provenance studies. Sophisticated methods are needed to reconstruct the origin of turquoise and the commercial networks in the ancient times for this lapidary raw material, and we show that, even with these methods, a lot of work still remains to be done.

Dans le cadre d’etudes de provenance des materiaux ceramiques, il est courant de comparer la composition elementaire de matieres premieres argileuses avec celle d’artefacts archeologiques. Les problemes d’alteration demeurent cependant peu pris en compte. La presente etude propose ainsi une premiere comparaison entre des materiaux ceramiques et des tessons non cuits retrouves dans un meme contexte archeologique de la fin de l’âge du Fer. Nos resultats illustrent l’importance d’un traitement adequat des donnees de compositions geochimiques et l’interet des developpements methodologiques dans la suite des travaux de J. Aitchison (1986). Cette approche permet d’identifier les processus intervenant apres l’abandon des artefacts et d’eviter des biais taphonomiques, notamment lies aux mecanismes de pedogenese, qui n’affectent pas argiles et ceramiques de la meme facon. L’existence d’une alteration differentielle en fonction de la nature des materiaux invite a la prudence quant a l’application stricte du postulat de provenance lorsqu’il s’agit de comparer des materiaux archeologiques et geologiques.

A partir d’analyses chimiques de tessons provenant d’une manufacture de Cosne-sur-Loire, et en comparaison avec un referentiel chimique fiable pour les faiences de Nevers, on a tente de decouvrir l’origine de deux autres plaques en faience du xviie siecle de style nivernais qui pourraient, par une simple approche stylistique, etre attribuees a l’un ou l’autre de ces centres. La composition chimique des deux objets et l’analyse statistique multivariee montrent tres clairement qu’ils n’appartiennent ni au referentiel de Cosne-sur-Loire, ni a celui de Nevers, contrairement a un objet similaire qui fait partie du groupe de reference Cosne-sur-Loire.

Provenance of wine and oil amphorae in northern Adriatic: archaeometric and epigraphic approaches 亚得里亚海北部葡萄酒和油壶的来源:考古学和金石学方法

: This research focuses on the archaeometric analysis of a large set of wine (type Dressel 6A) and oil amphorae (type Dressel 6B and probably funnel necked amphorae) from northern and central Italy, with the main aim of characterizing the various regional productions and trades among them and other production region of the Adriatic coast. Archaeobotanic and archaeological evidence, as well as the geographic context, indicated that both northern and central Italy were devoted to the growth of both grapes for wine production and olive trees. The various stamps recorded on Dressel 6A and Dressel 6B amphorae, the family names of which can be linked to specific regional areas within this territory, attest that numerous production centres were active even in the Cisalpina (northern Italy). The comparison with amphorae and fired local clay material of Romagna and Middle-Adriatic area, allowed to confirm the Middle-Adriatic origin of some series of Dressel 6A and Dressel 6B amphorae, as originally hypothesized for these amphorae.

The EMAC (European Meeting on Ancient Ceramic) symposium in 2017 in Bordeaux brought together researchers from the material sciences and humanities. This fourteenth edition gave rise to the publication of 14 articles on themes mainly explored in recent years in Europe. From questions of provenance to the highlighting of manufacturing technologies, the ceramic material appears more than ever as a vector of information in an integrated vision of archaeological research.
