L’analyse archeogeographique d’un territoire permet de saisir certaines de ses dynamiques internes mais aussi de reflechir a leurs mecanismes de transmission sur le temps long. Appliquee, dans cet article, au territoire parisien ancien, cette demarche permet de reperer a l’interieur de ce dernier des sous-ensembles organises par des logiques socio-economiques differentes, grâce a une compilation d’informations provenant de sources ecrites et planimetriques. L’analyse de plusieurs corpus de donnees permet de constater le maintien sur le temps long de ces sous-ensembles et engage a explorer le role du bâti et des limites parcellaires dans cette persistance : les composantes materielles d’un territoire apparaissent comme etant un des elements qui, en interaction avec d’autres, participe a son maintien dans le temps.

Les recents developpements de l’anthracologie visent a renseigner les modes de collecte du bois, les pratiques sylvicoles et la physionomie evolutive des peuplements forestiers. Parmi ces developpements, l’estimation du diametre initial des bois carbonises a partir de l’etude des charbons residuels occupe une place centrale. Cette approche, initialement fondee sur l’observation de la courbure des cernes, s’appuie aujourd’hui sur la mesure precise du rayon de courbure (aussi appele distance a la moelle) a l’aide de logiciels d’analyse d’images. Pourtant, force est de constater qu’encore trop peu d’etudes anthracologiques mobilisent cette approche, en particulier dans le milieu de l’archeologie preventive. Les raisons invoquees sont doubles : les equipements necessaires (camera et logiciels d’analyse d’images) ne sont pas encore assez democratises et la realisation des mesures decuple le temps analytique. Cette approche devient donc incompatible avec les contraintes economiques de l’archeologie preventive. Pour depasser cette limite, cet article propose une adaptation de la methode qualitative basee sur l’observation de trois classes de courbures des cernes – courbe, intermediaire, rectiligne – en definissant les valeurs limites des bornes de chacune de ces classes. Cette adaptation repose d’abord sur l’etude systematique des courbures de cernes dans des fenetres d’observation posees sur une cible parfaite et six sections transversales de brins de taillis vieillis de chene (Quercus robur L.) et de châtaignier (Castanea sativa Mill.). Cette premiere etape conduit a l’estimation des rayons de courbure maxima de chaque classe en millimetres. Dans un second temps, les valeurs limites obtenues sont testees sur un corpus anthracologique issu de trois charbonnieres experimentales pour lesquelles le diametre initial des bois a ete mesure avant la carbonisation. In fine, les valeurs limites des trois classes de courbures sont validees et pourront etre mobilisees dans les etudes anthracologiques ulterieures.

Pourtant, force est de constater qu’encore trop peu d’etudes anthracologiques mobilisent cette approche, en particulier dans le milieu de l’archeologie preventive. Les raisons invoquees sont doubles : les equipements necessaires (camera et logiciels d’analyse d’images) ne sont pas encore assez democratises et la realisation des mesures decuple le temps analytique. Cette approche devient donc incompatible avec les contraintes economiques de l’archeologie preventive. Pour depasser cette limite, cet article propose une adaptation de la methode qualitative basee sur l’observation de trois classes de courbures des cernes – courbe, intermediaire, rectiligne – en definissant les valeurs limites des bornes de chacune de ces classes. Cette adaptation repose d’abord sur l’etude systematique des courbures de cernes dans des fenetres d’observation posees sur une cible parfaite et six sections transversales de brins de taillis vieillis de chene (Quercus robur L.) et de châtaignier (Castanea sativa Mill.). Cette premiere etape conduit a l’estimation des rayons de courbure maxima de chaque classe en millimetres. Dans un second temps, les valeurs limites obtenues sont testees sur un corpus anthracologique issu de trois charbonnieres experimentales pour lesquelles le diametre initial des bois a ete mesure avant la carbonisation.
